Rams | Tre Mason struggling with pass protection

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 10:20:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason still has to work on becoming a better pass blocker after he allowed two sacks in the second preseason game, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. "Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest challenges for the position," Fisher said. "To learn how to play without the football. Guys have run skills, can carry the ball and run, and do those kind of things. But it's playing without the football. It's protection. Tre needs to keep working on it."

Fantasy Tip: Zac Stacy likely will enter the season as the starting running back, but Mason has a chance to take over the job at some point during the season. Mason likely will be taken in the later rounds of fantasy drafts but has the potential to become a starter for an owner. Mason could also be a handcuff to Stacy during drafts.

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason saw received some snaps with the first-team Tuesday, July 29, with RB Zac Stacy receiving a majority of the work with the first-team.

Rams | RB competition being pushed by OC

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 11:16:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy isn't officially the team's starting running back. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that RBs Benny Cunningham, Tre Mason and Isaiah Pead will all compete with Stacy for starter status. Schottenheimer added that each running back has a different skill set that will be used "throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: It's still too early to make too much out of the St. Louis running back situation, but it's still not good news for Stacy. While Stacy may still get most of the playing time, he probably won't be called on as much as he was last season. Still, he's a solid RB2 option in standard leagues. If we were to choose a St. Louis running back to bet on other than Stacy, it would probably be Mason.

Rams | Zac Stacy focused on pass protection

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 11:19:03 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy is focusing on pass protection this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: If Stacy can improve his pass protection, he’ll likely get more playing time. That being said, he still has competition, mainly coming from rookie Tre Mason. Right now, consider Stacy a high-end RB2 in standard leagues.

Rams | Tre Mason may compete for starting job

Thu, 29 May 2014 16:08:57 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason said the coaching staff told him he will compete for the starting running back job during training camp, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It's unlikely he'll win it, as Zac Stacy probably has that honor by default. However, Mason can run between the tackles and is more than a change-up back; he could work his way into a 50-50 split. If he gains significant weekly carries behind what could be a studly offensive line, he'd at least earn flex consideration. At the very least, he's a handcuff to Stacy.

Rams | Tre Mason injury not a concern, more

Sat, 10 May 2014 09:52:48 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (wrist) is fine and his wrist is not a concern, according to Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher also said Mason would play a change-of-pace role with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Mason could be a sneaky pick late in PPR fantasy drafts, but don't expect him to have a large workload, barring any injuries to Zac Stacy.

Rams | Select Tre Mason 75th overall

Fri, 09 May 2014 19:08:09 -0700

The St. Louis Rams selected Auburn RB Tre Mason with the 75th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Mason will be a change-up option to lead back Zac Stacy. He'll essentially be the next Isaiah Pead and have occasional but limited fantasy use unless Stacy misses time. Mason also has wrist troubles of his own to worry about.
