Cubs | Rehab stint nearing for Tommy La Stella

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:27:43 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment as early as Monday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella has limited fantasy value because of his lack of playing time, but he has made the most of his opportunities this year with a .291/.378/.494 slash line through 90 plate appearances. He is best utilized in daily contests when in the lineup, and La Stella checks out as a depth piece in cavernous mixed and NL-only seasonal setups.

Cubs | Jorge Soler, Tommy La Stella returns TBD

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 11:55:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler (hamstring) and 2B Tommy La Stella (hamstring) have no timetable for their returns. Soler did some work Friday, June 17, but he won't be ready when he's eligible June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Soler is worth stashing because of his talent, but he has underperformed this year. La Stella is an NL-only stash, but he lost value when Chris Coghlan was acquired.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella placed on DL

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:24:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Friday, June 10. In a corresponding move, 2B/OF Chris Coghlan was officially added to the 25-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: These are depth pieces for the Cubs and nothing more than cavernous mixed and NL-only options. It isn't out of the question to stash La Stella in those deep leagues because when he plays, he produces (.291/.378/.494). Look for Coghlan to turn his season around after posting a .146/.215/.272 slash line with the Oakland Athletics.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella to go on DL

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 15:16:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: This would explain why the club reacquired Chris Coghlan. La Stella isn't much of a fantasy asset due to his limited playing time, and the same should apply to Coghlan, who had been struggling mightily with the A's this season. However, the former NL Rookie of the Year should see some extensive playing time with La Stella sidelined, and could offer something as a result.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella starting Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 11:31:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella is starting at third base and is hitting sixth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Tuesday, June 7. 3B Kris Bryant is shifting to left field with OF Jorge Soler (hamstring) sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella could see a lot more playing time in the near future if Soler's hamstring injury is serious enough to land him on the DL. La Stella has hit in his opportunities, too, batting .280 with two homers and seven RBI in 75 at-bats. He could become an option off the waiver wire in deep mixed leagues if he starts every day in this potent lineup.

Cubs | Addison Russell, Jorge Soler out

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 09:16:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell and OF Jorge Soler are not in the starting lineup Friday, June 3. 2B Javier Baez is starting at the 6 and is hitting eighth, while 3B Tommy La Stella is at third base and is batting sixth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley. 3B Kris Bryant shifts to left field.

Fantasy Tip: Baez's power-speed combination is intriguing in most fantasy formats, but his playing time has been an issue. His daily upside is limited, though, while hitting low in the order. La Stella has done nothing but produce when he's played this year, hitting for a .286/.383/.500 slash line with two home runs and seven RBI. He's a fine value selection in DFS today.

Cubs | Jorge Soler sitting out

Wed, 25 May 2016 07:51:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 25, with 3B Tommy La Stella hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella has a .308-2-7 line on the season and is a low-end consideration against Carlos Martinez.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella starting at third base

Wed, 18 May 2016 13:32:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Tommy La Stella is starting at third base and batting sixth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Wednesday, May 18. OF Jorge Soler and INF Javier Baez are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: The Cubs are providing La Stella, Baez and Soler with semi-regular at-bats through mixing and matching their lineups. All three are viable depth options in deep mixed leagues with Baez likely owning the most upside. For Wednesday, view La Stella as a low-priced target in daily contests. He has a .327/.403/.582 slash line with 10 runs and six RBI through 62 plate appearances.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist not in the lineup

Wed, 11 May 2016 14:52:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Ben Zobrist is not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 11. 2B Tommy La Stella will start at second base and is batting seventh against Padres SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella is hitting .467 with three extra base hits and two RBI over the last seven days. He should be an attractive option for owners in daily fantasy league while he is on his hot streak.

Cubs | Javier Baez starting at third base

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:27:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez is starting at third base and batting sixth against San Diego Padres SP Cesar Vargas Monday, May 9. INF Tommy La Stella is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: After hitting a walk-off bomb Sunday, May 8, Baez is back in the lineup and stands to continue his solid start (.306/.333/.490 slash line through 51 plate appearances). Outside of shallow leagues, Baez should be owned, as he projects to receive four to five starts per week and owns huge upside. La Stella has a .362/.444/.660 line and stands to cut into Baez's playing time, and Jorge Soler is also in the mix, which makes Baez more valuable in daily transaction leagues.
