Padres | Wil Myers lands on DL

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:29:09 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 19, with left wrist tendinitis. The DL move is retroactive to May 11. RP Cory Mazzoni was recalled from Class AAA El Paso (Texas) in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Myers' wrist injury wasn't thought to be all that serious, there's a realistic chance that he'll be ready to go when he's eligible to be activated. In his absence, the Padres will go with some combination of Will Venable ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Abraham Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) in center field. Neither player is very intriguing for FantasyScore players, but Venable offers more speed and offensive upside for your money.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard sent down

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 14:51:26 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard was sent to minor league camp Tuesday, March 18. He'll start at Triple-A Las Vegas for some more seasoning. The team also re-assigned Ps Rafael Montero, Joel Carreno, Ryan Reid, Cory Mazzoni and Miguel Socolovich, 1Bs Brandon Allen and Matt Clark and C Juan Centeno.

Fantasy Tip: As DiComo notes, Syndergaard, the club's top pitching prospect, is expected to follow a similar path to the bigs that Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler had, which would put his arrival in New York around sometime in June. That would keep Syndergaard from achieving Super 2 arbitration status. He should be firmly on the radar of those in NL-only and keeper leagues.

Mets | Cory Mazzoni considered for bullpen

Tue, 18 Feb 2014 12:17:24 -0800

The New York Mets will consider RP Cory Mazzoni for a roster spot as a reliever this spring, even though he has started for most of his minor league career. Mazzoni was 5-3 with a 4.36 ERA in 13 outings (12 starts) at Double-A Binghamton last year, and he underwent surgery to fix a torn meniscus last summer. "He's got three 'plus' pitches. He's got a plus fastball. He's got a good slider. And he's got an outstanding split. We saw last year (in the Grapefruit League), the one night he came in he dominated. The next time he couldn't get his split down and they got good swings on him. I know he's been starting in the minor leagues, but he's going to be an interesting guy to look at," manager Terry Collins said.
