Mets | Logan Verrett to start Wednesday

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 22:53:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Logan Verrett will make the start Wednesday, Sept. 30, against the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Terry Collins confirmed Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is a solid mid-tier FantasyScore play for his final scheduled start of the regular season.

Mets | Logan Verrett likely for Wednesday

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:36:37 -0700

New York Mets RP Logan Verrett is likely to make a spot start Wednesday, Sept. 30, with SP Steven Matz (side) being pushed back to Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has pitched surprisingly well in a few spot starts late this year for the Mets, and the Phillies are a promising matchup. He could be worth a cheap buy as your second starting pitcher on FantasyScore. Matz ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) is also certainly worth the investment against the Phils Thursday since his injury is pretty minor.

Braves | Cameron Maybin not starting Tuesday

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 12:22:59 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not starting Tuesday, Sept. 22, against the New York Mets. OF Michael Bourn is hitting eighth in place of Maybin, against Mets SP Logan Verrett.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appears to be getting a normal off night so Bourn can get some playing time in center. Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has a .176 average against the Mets and doesn't carry much fantasy value.

Braves | Nick Markakis back for ATL

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 12:18:42 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22, and he is hitting leadoff against New York Mets SP Logan Verrett.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) can go right back in your FantasyScore lineup. He has a .350 average in the last seven days and has a .294 mark for September, so Markakis is finishing his first year in Atlanta on a high note.

Mets | Jacob deGrom won't start Tuesday

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 10:14:31 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins has decided to push back SP Jacob deGrom's next scheduled start. He was expected to face the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Sept. 22, but with the club holding an eight-game lead over the Washington Nationals in the National League East, P Logan Verrett will get the starting nod instead.

Fantasy Tip: It is unknown when deGrom ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) will pitch again and the possibility exists that he could be skipped altogether next week, depending on when the Mets clinch the division. Verrett ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 15 appearances this season, two of which were starts. He is not a great option in FantasyScore because he will likely be on a pitch count.

Mets | Matt Harvey to have half-outings

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 09:15:52 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will receive regular starts down the stretch, but those outings will be half-outings, meaning another pitcher will be used after Harvey for multiple innings. That plan is likely to start Sunday, Sept. 20, against the New York Yankees. RP Logan Verrett is replacing Harvey against the Miami Marlins Monday, Sept. 14. Ps Sean Gilmartin, Erik Goeddel and Tim Stauffer are candidates to pitch after Harvey in his next starts, according to manager Terry Collins. The Mets want to keep Harvey sharp for a postseason run while also keeping his overall innings down. Harvey is currently at 171 2/3 innings, and agent Scott Boras recently suggested that exceeding 180 innings could be harmful to his client's long-term health.

Fantasy Tip: Because Harvey ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) won't pitch deep into another game this regular season, he should be avoided on FantasyScore, especially at his high salary. Those in single-year formats should consider dropping him for a more useful arm down the stretch, too.

Mets | Matt Harvey to be skipped Monday

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 14:09:54 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey is expected to be skipped again Monday, Sept. 14, with RP Logan Verrett taking his spot in the six-man rotation temporarily.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) will likely only make one or two more starts the rest of the year as the Mets look to be careful with his innings while coming off Tommy John surgery. Verrett will be cheap on FantasyScore against the Miami Marlins. But even against a weaker offensive team, there's no advantage to selecting him in a spot start.

Mets | Logan Verrett sharp in first career win

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 00:31:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett tossed eight innings of four-hit ball with eight strikeouts as the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies, 5-1, on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett was supposed to be a one-time replacement for SP Matt Harvey to help conserve some of Harvey's innings, but to throw a game like this in pitcher-unfriendly Coors Field leaves the Mets with a blessing. Look for Verrett to earn more innings, and if he starts again you might want to take a chance in FantasyScore.

Mets | Matt Harvey to be skipped Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:47:47 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will have his next start skipped Sunday, Aug. 23, and RP Logan Verrett will make the spot start against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) will make his next start a week from today against the suddenly hot Boston Red Sox. Harvey should still be a pretty solid FantasyScore option that day. With the Mets finding ways to rest their young starters down the stretch, their fantasy value will take a hit. You may want to seriously consider stacking Rockies hitters against Verrett and whatever other bullpen arm New York uses that day on FantasyScore.

Mets | Matt Harvey may have next start skipped

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 14:46:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey may have his start against the Colorado Rockies skipped Sunday, Aug. 23, as a means to conserve his innings, according to manager Terry Collins. SP Logan Verrett would make the start, if the Mets decide to rest Harvey.

Fantasy Tip: A six-man rotation when SP Steven Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) returns from the disabled list isn't out of the question, either. The Mets are looking to keep their young flamethrowers healthy, and clearly are considering all possible options. Harvey ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) being skipped is a short-term negative, but should also help to keep him pitching through the end of the season. Stay tuned for updates. Verrett cannot be started with confidence in any format if he receives the nod to take the hill Sunday.
