Mets | Logan Verrett starting vs. Nats Wednesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:18:47 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett will make a spot start against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 29.

Fantasy Tip: Through eight career starts, Verrett owns a 4.61 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and a 7.5 K/9. View him as a low-end option in seasonal leagues and daily contests Wednesday.

Mets | Logan Verrett might be summoned

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 19:30:36 -0700

The New York Mets scratched SP Logan Verrett from his scheduled start with Class AAA Las Vegas following an injury to SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) with the big club.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett might be needed to fill the rotation spot of Colon if he is forced to the 15-day disabled list. Verrett has pitched well filling in for the Mets, and he could be a useful NL-only fantasy option, as well as a cheap DFS play, if Colon indeed is forced to the DL.

Mets | Logan Verrett lined up for Saturday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 16:16:00 -0700

Updating a previous item, New York Mets SP Logan Verrett will start against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett has been serviceable as a spot starter for New York this year with and could be a popular value selection as your second starter in daily play this weekend against the Brew Crew.

Mets | Logan Verrett to make spot start

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 10:38:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett will make a spot start either Friday, June 10, or Saturday, June 11, with the Mets' preference being Friday.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets' Tuesday doubleheader will cause things to be shuffled up in the rotation. Verrett would be facing the Brewers this weekend, which means he'd be worth a look as a streamer in fantasy baseball in traditional and daily formats. Verrett has been decent as a starter this year, going 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings over three starts.

Mets | Logan Verrett fails Coors Field test

Sun, 15 May 2016 06:02:52 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks through just 2 2/3 innings during the Mets' 7-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Coors Field is a daunting pitching environment, and the Rockies are a deep lineup. Verrett is jumping between the rotation and bullpen, which makes his fantasy value tough to gauge, but he did pitch 12 scoreless innings through his first two starts of the season. Limit your exposure to Verrett to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but he could be a potential streaming option in more favorable matchups. His Saturday showing also serves as a reminder to be wary of starting non-elite hurlers at Coors Field.

Mets | Logan Verrett to start Saturday

Thu, 12 May 2016 18:33:25 -0700

Confirming a previous report, New York Mets P Logan Verrett will make a spot start against the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 14, in place of SP Steven Matz (elbow).

Fantasy Tip: Verrett is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 10 appearances (two starts) for the Mets this season. Although the 25-year-old right-hander has performed well as a spot starter, he is not a recommended fantasy option versus the Rockies Saturday because the game is at Coors Field.

Mets | Steven Matz to be skipped

Wed, 11 May 2016 16:15:50 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) will have his next start skipped Saturday, May 14, after his elbow flared up following his last start. RP Logan Verrett is expected to take Matz's spot in the rotation unless he's used in relief before this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully for those that own Matz, this is just one missed start. The Mets don't seem too concerned, as they haven't sent the young lefty for an MRI exam. Aside from a rough season debut, Matz has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his other five starts. He's a great midrange fantasy starter, but keep tabs on his recovery. Verrett has performed well as a spot starter this year but would be a risky proposition on the road against the Rockies Saturday.

Mets | Logan Verrett holds down Philly

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:19:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett scattered six hits and one walk over six scoreless innings with four strikeouts in a win Tuesday, April 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett has allowed just one earned run in 13 innings this season, and that run came in a relief appearance April 10. Verrett has spun 12 scoreless innings over his past two outings, but with Jacob deGrom heading back to the rotation it will be Verrett who heads to the bullpen and is the odd-man out. However, remember him later if he gets another chance to start.

Mets | Logan Verrett starting Tuesday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:44:35 -0700

Confirming a previous report, New York Mets P Logan Verrett will start in place of SP Jacob deGrom (lat) against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 19. DeGrom was placed on the bereavement/medical emergency list because of an issue with his newborn baby.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett has posted a 1.29 ERA in two appearances (one start) this year, with three walks and seven strikeouts over seven innings. He has a favorable matchup against a light-hitting Philadelphia squad and should be viewed as a value play in daily fantasy games.

Mets | Jacob deGrom unlikely to start Tuesday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 14:45:46 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) is now "unlikely" to make his next start against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 19. SP Logan Verrett is expected to fill in again. The Mets are likely to make a disabled list decision on deGrom soon.

Fantasy Tip: A career-high 191 innings plus playoff outings may have taken their toll on deGrom, as he also dealt with nagging injuries this spring which kept his velocity down. He's a legitimate fantasy ace when he's healthy, but you'll have to find backup plans in the event he lands on the DL. Verrett pitched six shutout innings in his spot start against the Marlins Wednesday and will be attractive once again for a fantasy spot start against the weak-hitting Phils next week if it comes to that.
