Mets | Logan Verrett sharp in first career win

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 00:31:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Logan Verrett tossed eight innings of four-hit ball with eight strikeouts as the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies, 5-1, on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett was supposed to be a one-time replacement for SP Matt Harvey to help conserve some of Harvey's innings, but to throw a game like this in pitcher-unfriendly Coors Field leaves the Mets with a blessing. Look for Verrett to earn more innings, and if he starts again you might want to take a chance in FantasyScore.

Mets | Matt Harvey to be skipped Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:47:47 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will have his next start skipped Sunday, Aug. 23, and RP Logan Verrett will make the spot start against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) will make his next start a week from today against the suddenly hot Boston Red Sox. Harvey should still be a pretty solid FantasyScore option that day. With the Mets finding ways to rest their young starters down the stretch, their fantasy value will take a hit. You may want to seriously consider stacking Rockies hitters against Verrett and whatever other bullpen arm New York uses that day on FantasyScore.

Mets | Matt Harvey may have next start skipped

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 14:46:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey may have his start against the Colorado Rockies skipped Sunday, Aug. 23, as a means to conserve his innings, according to manager Terry Collins. SP Logan Verrett would make the start, if the Mets decide to rest Harvey.

Fantasy Tip: A six-man rotation when SP Steven Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) returns from the disabled list isn't out of the question, either. The Mets are looking to keep their young flamethrowers healthy, and clearly are considering all possible options. Harvey ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) being skipped is a short-term negative, but should also help to keep him pitching through the end of the season. Stay tuned for updates. Verrett cannot be started with confidence in any format if he receives the nod to take the hill Sunday.

Mets | NY starters to be rested down the stretch

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 10:14:53 -0700

New York Mets starting pitchers will be given more rest in September with the return of SP Steven Matz (lat) after rosters expand on September 1. RP Logan Verrett will likely receive a spot start or two in September to allow one of the team's marquee starters to be skipped. Matz has made one rehab start for Class A St. Lucie. SP Matt Harvey has tossed 154 innings and is on pace for roughly 15 or so more than the team would like. SP Noah Syndergaard is at 135 1/3 innings between the majors and minors, and he tossed 138 innings last season. There's less urgency in shaving innings off of SP Jacob deGrom's workload. He's at 146 2/3 innings after throwing 178 2/3 innings last season.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets will go with a six-man rotation when Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) returns from the DL. Less starts and less innings down the stretch will slightly devalue the Mets' marquee starters for their fantasy owners.

Mets | NY to use spot starter soon

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 17:17:53 -0700

The New York Mets tentatively plan to use a spot starter on their next road trip, and Ps Dillon Gee and Logan Verrett are the primary candidates to receive a start. The Mets are looking for ways to slow the increasing innings totals for young SPs Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: You can ignore Gee and Verrett in all formats, since they're likely to only have the one start. This is just another reminder that the Mets' young starters will have one less start down the stretch. It also looks plausible that they'll go back to a six-man rotation when Steven Matz (lat) is ready to return around the beginning of September.

Mets | Jon Niese activated

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:42:10 -0700

New York Mets SP Jon Niese was activated from the paternity leave list Tuesday, July 28. The team also optioned P Logan Verrett to Class AAA Las Vegas.

Fantasy Tip: Niese ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) likely will return to the starting rotation in the near future. He struggled in his last start but held opponents to three runs or less in the previous eight starts. Niese could be a solid option against certain matchups.

Mets | Jon Niese placed on paternity leave

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 08:54:05 -0700

New York Mets SP Jon Niese was placed on the paternity leave list Saturday, July 25. The team also called P Logan Verrett from Class AAA Las Vegas.

Fantasy Tip: Niese ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) started Friday, July 24, so he may be able to rejoin the team before his next scheduled start. He allowed six runs in his last start but held opponents to two or fewer runs in four of the previous five starts. Niese could be an option on FantasyScore against certain opponents.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia activated

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 15:48:43 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia has been activated from an 80-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The Mets demoted RP Logan Verrett to clear a roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia had been the Mets' closer before he was suspended, but he'll face the tough task of climbing over Bobby Parnell and Jeurys Familia on the depth chart. Owners shouldn't be too concerned with Mejia at this point, but he will become a consideration for save opportunities if Familia starts struggling.
