Packers | Jeff Janis out a few weeks

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 14:20:06 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis (finger) was told he'll be sidelined four to six weeks following surgery to put screws in the bones around his index finger.

Fantasy Tip: Janis may be out for the first couple weeks of the season, but his role would be limited anyway. He shouldn't be totally overlooked, but he's a weak blip on the fantasy radar right now.

Packers | No timetable for Jeff Janis

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 13:18:15 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis (hand) does not have a timetable for his return, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Janis will not practice this week and will not play against the Oakland Raiders Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Janis has little fantasy value since he's lower on Green Bay's depth chart. He should only be drafted in deeper leagues as a late-round flier.

Packers | Jeff Janis to sit this week

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 09:10:54 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis (hand) will not participate in practice this week and there is no timetable for his return, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Janis was competing for a roster spot during training camp, but his status with the team is uncertain at this point because of the injury. Owners should monitor his progress over the next few weeks. He will be a risky option in fantasy drafts, so owners may want to look at other options.

Packers | Jeff Janis has fractured hand

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 06:29:03 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis (hand) may miss significant time because at least one of the bones in his hand is fractured, according a source. Janis suffered the injury during practice Wednesday, Aug. 10, and did not play in the first preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Janis was receiving work with the first-team offense during training camp because of injuries at the position but was not making much progress. Owners in all leagues probably should avoid Janis even if he is ready for the regular season.

Packers | Jared Abbrederis making plays in camp

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 14:33:35 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jared Abbrederis has impressed in camp while WR Davante Adams and WR Jeff Janis have been quiet in the early going.

Fantasy Tip: Abbrederis has been limited to nine games through two pro seasons due to injuries and probably needs both Janis and Adams to remain unimpressive in order to take over the No. 3 role behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. The odds are long that will actually happen, but it is a possibility and the third receiver role has typically been an underrated source of fantasy production in Green Bay. Abbrederis should go undrafted in most leagues, but he's worth monitoring during the preseason just in case.

Packers | Jeff Janis receiving high-level education

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 15:32:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis has been a pet project of sorts for QB Aaron Rodgers early in training camp, according to quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt. "Working with the young receivers, (Rodgers has been) great. He'll go over after his set of reps and talk through it with them, especially with Jeff (Janis). They're getting a good relationship now, working together and talking about what they expect from each other," Van Pelt said.

Fantasy Tip: Janis is fighting with Davante Adams for the No. 3 job behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. It has been a fantasy-relevant position for some time in Green Bay and has taken on added importance with Nelson dealing with tendinitis in his non-surgically repaired left knee at the moment. Janis is an athletic freak who has reportedly struggled early in camp, but this kind of report lends support to the possibility he may be on the verge of breaking out soon. He's well worth a gamble in the final rounds on draft day.

Packers | Jeff Janis could be speed burner

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:15:26 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis has nearly identical measurables to WR Jordy Nelson, and he posted a 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine with a vertical leap of 37 1/2 inches. If he proves this summer that his route running and knowledge of the offense are up to speed, he might add an element that the Green Bay offense desperately needs. "He's obviously gifted very well with his athleticism, his jumping ability and his speed. He just needs to get to a level where he's not thinking as much and his instincts take over," QB Aaron Rodgers said.

Fantasy Tip: Janis had a big postseason performance, and he could be ready to take another step forward. However, the depth chart is very competitive behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Whomever emerges as the No. 3 receiver will be worth a look in the late rounds of fantasy leagues.

Packers | Jeff Janis returning kicks

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:43:50 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis has been receiving first-team repetitions with the kickoff return team. That could change when WR Ty Montgomery (ankle) returns, but Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette doesn't believe it will.

Fantasy Tip: Janis and Montgomery have little fantasy relevance right now with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams ahead of them. They can continue to be avoided in fantasy drafts.

Packers | Jeff Janis praised by head coach

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 22:16:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis received praise from head coach Mike McCarthy about his work during organized team activities (OTAs). "Jeff Janis is doing a lot of good things. He just needs to continue to progress through the fundamentals of the position," McCarthy said Monday, June 6. "Special teams he had an excellent last year last year, graded out as one of our top players. I'd like to see him that that same step as a wide receiver."

Fantasy Tip: Janis has plenty of company at the receiver position, so wait and see how he performs in training camp and the preseason before taking a chance on him on draft day. It might take an injury or two to open up a key role for Janis on offense.
