Giants | Odell Beckham had trouble with drops late

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 12:00:08 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. had six drops in his final 82 targets of the 2016 season. He had only nine drops in the first 381 targets of his career. Beckham did suffer a minor thumb injury during the team's Week 11 game, which may have affected his play.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham did have a few drops during the Wild Card playoff game but is still one of the best receivers in the NFL. Beckham likely will be selected in one of the first two rounds of fantasy drafts and should be a No. 1 receiver in all leagues.

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 18:17:02 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and beat writer Mark Cook believes the Buccaneers should try to extend Evans before New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. receives a new deal and sets the market.

Fantasy Tip: Evans has 3,578 yards and 27 touchdowns in his first three seasons. He is a WR1 in any format and a top-five pick in dynasty leagues.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. punched a hole in a wall following a 38-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 8, according to reports.

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 17:23:14 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. finished with four catches on 11 targets for 28 yards in a 38-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham dropped multiple passes, including a potential touchdown, and wasn't able to take advantage of a porous Green Bay secondary. It was a bad end to his season, but he should still be viewed as a top-three fantasy receivers in 2017.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. tough to shadow

Sat, 17 Dec 2016 17:55:43 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. may not be shadowed by Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay in Week 15 because Beckham lines up outside and in the slot, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said.

Fantasy Tip: Slay is no slouch, but the Giants are going to find ways to put the ball in Beckham's hands. Don't hesitate to use him as a WR1 in Week 15.

Sat, 10 Dec 2016 07:51:48 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $12,154 by the National Football League for verbal abuse and excessive profanity directed towards an official in Week 13's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The fine was not related to Beckham's postgame comments about officials and he could be punished separately for those remarks.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham was targeted 16 times during the game and finished with 10 receptions for 100 yards. He should continue to be viewed as a must-start option in all fantasy formats, regardless of the opponent.

Giants | ODB interested in return game

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 22:53:39 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. is eager to try his hand at punt returns going forward. With WR Dwayne Harris (wrist) injured, and RB Bobby Rainey benched for fumbling, Beckham had a taste of the return game in the second half in Week 12 against the Cleveland Browns. "It's a lot of fun. It's something that I do enjoy. Hopefully I can help this team out that way or whatever way I can," Beckham said Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners, of course, hate the idea, unless you're a fantasy owner of the Giants DST or in a format which rewards individuals for return yardage. In most standard leagues, there is no benefit to return yardage, but an added risk for injury.

Giants | Odell Beckham off injury report

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 21:19:50 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (thumb) did not appear on the team's injury report Wednesday, Nov. 30. Beckham said the thumb does not bother him until something hits into it. He said the injury might help him. "I have to focus more on catching the ball. I have to really lock in and focus on where I'm placing my hands," Beckham said.

Fantasy Tip: ODB is a must-start fantasy play in any format, and it appears he will play through this nagging injury. If it isn't big enough to keep him from practicing or playing, it certainly isn't something for fantasy owners to be terribly concerned about.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (thumb) has returned to team's Week 12 game after missing some time because of a thumb injury.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham's injury does not appear to be serious, but owners should look for any updates on his status after the game or in the next game or two. Beckham is a No. 1 receiver in all leagues when healthy.

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 10:40:30 -0800

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (thumb) went to the locker room during the team's Week 12 game because of a thumb injury. He is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Beckham will be able to return to the game. Beckham is a must-start option when healthy but a thumb injury likely would affect his ability to catch passes.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. posted eight receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown in the first half of the Week 10 game against the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, Nov. 14. He has been targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: ODB is on pace for another giant stat line. He has six touchdown receptions over the past 18 quarters, and he needs just 21 receiving yards for his third 100-yard game of the season.

Giants | More slot work for Odell Beckham Jr.?

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 10:27:14 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. spent just seven percent of his time in the slot prior to his team's Week 8 bye after playing 19 percent of the offensive snaps there last year. In an effort to prevent double teams against him going forward, the Giants are considering giving him more time inside.

Fantasy Tip: It is much harder for defenses to double slot receivers for a multitude of reasons, but New York's unwillingness to have OBJ work inside more often during the first half of the season probably wasn't the team's biggest problem. Owners of Sterling Shepard - the usual slot receiver - need not panic as the rookie can play outside, plus the Giants are predominantly a three-receiver offense. Beckham remains a WR1 despite the offense's woes thus far, albeit one with a lower floor than his first two seasons.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. not on injury report

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 12:39:35 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) is absent from the team's Week 9 injury report and is expected to play versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Save for an explosive second half against a shorthanded Baltimore Ravens secondary, OBJ has been sabotaged by Eli Manning's inconsistent play and the failings of the Giants' offensive line. Beckham remains a WR1 regardless, but owners hoping for him to recreate his first two seasons may be disappointed again this week. The Eagles have shown an ability to rush the passer and keep opposing receivers out of the end zone, surrendering only four touchdowns to the position this season.

Giants | Odell Beckham limited once again

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 11:55:34 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has been limited in practice all week, but considering he's not even on the injury report, there's no doubt he'll be out there when the Giants take on the rival Eagles in Week 9. As usual, he'll be a comfortable WR1 play with a very high ceiling.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. moving well

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 10:10:29 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was reportedly moving well but somewhat limited in practice Monday, Oct. 31.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants' well-timed Week 8 bye should have given OBJ enough time to get closer to 100 percent after head coach Ben McAdoo admitted his star wideout was "pretty sore" following the team's Week 7 win in London against the Los Angeles Rams. Assuming the Giants found a cure for what ails their struggling offense during their down time, they have a favorable enough schedule to allow Beckham to get rolling. Despite his inconsistent first half, OBJ remains an elite WR1 in fantasy.

Giants | Odell Beckham limited

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 08:43:31 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) appeared limited in practice Monday, Oct. 31.

Giants | Odell Beckham dealing with soreness

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 18:23:00 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) spent Monday, Oct. 24, in treatment, and he was "pretty sore," according to head coach Ben McAdoo. Beckham played through pain in his hip and abdominal area during the Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: The soreness in his lower body explains Beckham's rather ordinary numbers in the game Sunday. He has the bye in Week 8 to rest his bumps and bruises before getting ready for the stretch run.

Giants | Odell Beckham held in check

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 10:08:28 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. caught five passes for 49 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has been a bit inconsistent this season but is still one of the better receivers in the NFL. He should be a weekly starting option after he returns from his Week 8 bye.

He took off his helmet while celebrating a late-game touchdown and was flagged on the play, marking the fourth time this season he has been fined. Beckham has accumulated $96,772 in fines this year.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 21, but is not on the injury report for Week 7. The Giants did not practice Friday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham should be able to play this week despite the injury and will have a big role in the passing game. He should be a No. 1 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Giants | Odell Beckham probable

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 07:15:23 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was listed as probable for Week 7 by the team Friday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Even though there is no "probable" designation anymore, there's no reason for concern about OBJ in London this week. He's one of the top WR1 options in fantasy against the Los Angeles Rams.

Giants | Odell Beckham has limited practice

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 13:14:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 20. It had previously been reported that Beckham did not practice.

Fantasy Tip: A limited practice is certainly better than not practicing. Beckham is an every-week starter and about as matchup-proof a player as there is in the NFL. That being said, don't expect close to the numbers he put up in a breakout game last week (222 yards, two touchdowns). He's still easily a WR1 though.

Giants | Odell Beckham sits again

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 10:16:55 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has missed the first two days of practice this week, so owners will need to see if he can practice Friday, Oct. 21. Beckham could be a game-time decision for Week 7 but should be in all starting lineups if he is active for the game.

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 23:00:47 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was receiving treatment on his hip Monday, Oct. 17, according to head coach Ben McAdoo. Beckham suffered a hip pointer in Week 6 but was able to return to the game.

Fantasy Tip: While it sounds like just general soreness, it's possible Beckham could be limited in practice this week. For now just be aware of the situation and hope nothing deteriorates with OBJ coming off his best game of the season.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. posted eight receptions for a career-best 222 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Beckham was targeted 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has been nicked up and not performing to his capabilities, but he made up for lost time in a hurry for frustrated fantasy owners, single-handedly helping some to victories. He'll look to keep up the momentum into London for the Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Giants | Odell Beckham not catching on from slot

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 05:59:59 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has just one catch for 14 yards as a natural slot receiver this season. He had 32 catches for 467 yards and two touchdowns from the slot last season.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a rather pedestrian start with a 27-359-1 line through five games. However, that could change quickly against the Baltimore Ravens this week. It's poised to be a potential breakout game, and he's a high-end WR1 option in fantasy.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. fined

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 08:32:37 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $24,309 by the National Football League for an unsportsmanlike penalty in Week 4's game against the Minnesota Vikings, according to a source. Beckham was charged with taunting after getting into the face of CB Xavier Rhodes following a late hit along the sideline, although Rhodes was not fined.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham's fine for this infraction is higher than normal because of his status as a repeat offender. Although he has yet to reach the end zone this season, Beckham should still be viewed as a WR1 in all fantasy formats for Week 5's contest versus the Green Bay Packers.

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 05:15:07 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has not scored a touchdown through the first four games of the season. He has 22 catches for 303 yards.

Fantasy Tip: His numbers aren't terrible, but they're not OBJ-like. He'll have a solid matchup in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, and he'll remain a WR1 option in fantasy.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. a distraction?

Sat, 01 Oct 2016 19:00:09 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. needs to learn to control his emotions better to avoid becoming a distraction, head coach Ben McAdoo said, but Beckham said he doesn't plan on changing how he plays or approaches the game.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham's emotional outbursts are becoming routine, but they aren't to the point where they are impacting his fantasy value. A matchup with Minnesota's stingy defense in Week 4 is another story. Beckham should still start in most standard leagues, but he needs to be avoided in DFS formats.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. will be shadowed by Washington Redskins CB Josh Norman, except in the slot, in Week 3.

Giants | Odell Beckham still improving

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 07:35:34 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has been uncoverable in practice, and teammates believe he could have an even better season in 2016 because he was suspended one game and hurt for parts of two others last season.

Fantasy Tip: OBJ had a 96-1,450-13 masterpiece last year, and he's one of the most explosive players in the league. He still has a ways to go to prove his durability. Beckham is an elite WR1, and it's certainly possible there is more in the tank. However, with his robust rewards comes a fragment of risk.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (leg) missed his third straight practice Thursday, August 4.

Fantasy Tip: Although he's been sidelined for a few practices now, owners need not be worried about Beckham when the regular season starts. He'll be fine in plenty of time for the opener, and should be one of the top receivers in all of fantasy once again this year.

Giants | Odell Beckham could practice Thursday

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (leg) is progressing and could return to practice as early as Thursday, Aug. 4, according to head coach Ben McAdoo. Beckham worked on the side for a second consecutive day because of a leg injury Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is an elite talent and fantasy asset. He should be one of the first players off the board in all drafts, and there is a case for Beckham to be the first overall pick. Check back for updates on his status, but at this point, there's no reason to downgrade him from being a top-tier receiver.

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 08:24:31 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (leg) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 2, due to soreness from cuts on his left leg. The soreness is in his ankle area, and he could miss more time this week.

Fantasy Tip: OBJ had a stellar 93-1,450-13 season last year and quieted many of the injury concerns he had entering the league two years ago. He's one of the best players in fantasy as a WR1, and the minor injury shouldn't affect him.

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry has been working out with Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. in order to develop the footwork and feel to play outside receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Playing on the outside more often could lead to some big plays for Landry, but he should be a solid WR2 even if he remains in the slot and a borderline WR1 in PPR leagues.
