Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. expected to miss a week

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:35:23 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) is expected to be out at least another week, although tests on his hamstring came back negative Tuesday, July 29. The Giants are hoping Beckham can be a playmaker at receiver in their new West Coast offense. He'll compete for a starting spot against WR Jerrel Jernigan.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham's injury doesn't look to be too serious, but he'll miss valuable repetitions during training camp as a rookie. Beckham has speed and upside, but there will be plenty of inconsistency in a new offense and with Eli Manning chucking him the pigskin.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. out for a week

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 20:28:17 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is expected to battle Jerrel Jernigan for a starting job opposite Victor Cruz, but he needs to stay healthy if he is going to compete. If he wins the job, he has some upside as a WR3/4 or flex fantasy option.

Giants | Tests negative for Odell Beckham Jr.

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:46:55 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) had tests on his injured hamstring Monday, July 28, and the results were negative, according to two sources briefed on the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Missing practice time isn't going to help Beckham develop any kind of chemistry with Eli Manning, and while that will hurt his fantasy value to start the year, he has too much explosiveness to be rendered irrelevant all season. He is worth grabbing and stashing later in drafts.

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 18:48:58 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring), pulled up on the ball while running a deep route Tuesday, July 22, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham continued to practice, but the fact that he had to pull up is a sign that his hamstring might not be fully healed just yet. He should end up contributing his share of big plays this season as the team's No. 3 receiver, but he likely won't be consistent enough to be more than a backup WR in fantasy leagues.

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 20:33:39 -0700

New York Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. is viewed as an outside receiver despite standing just 5-foot-11, and he might push WR Rueben Randle for the No. 2 job opposite WR Victor Cruz.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham is a Top 60 fantasy receiver heading into the season, and he obviously has quite a bit of upside. He is worth nabbing in the area of Rounds 12-16 on draft day in most fantasy formats.

"He may be longer than (one day)," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "I don't know. You're talking about a skilled athlete with a little twinge, so he may be longer than that."

Updating a previous item, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said WR Odell Beckham Jr. (leg) could miss a considerable amount of time this summer with his leg injury.

Carolina Panthers general manager David Gettleman said New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. is the only "run the entire route-tree" wide receiver in this year's draft class.

Fantasy Tip: With Beckham's polish, he could immediately make an impact in his task of helping to replace Hakeem Nicks opposite Rueben Randle. Victor Cruz will work out of the slot position. However, Beckham will have plenty of competition and shouldn't be viewed as more than a WR4 or 5.

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said Thursday, May 8, that WR Odell Beckham Jr. is "almost pro-ready."

Fantasy Tip: That doesn't sound like a huge stamp of approval, but Beckham was one of the players they did a ton of homework on. Beckham gives Eli Manning another nice target, and he will improve Manning's value slightly while serving as a decent WR4 or flex fantasy play to start.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. selected 12th overall

Thu, 08 May 2014 18:23:28 -0700

The New York Giants selected Louisiana State WR Odell Beckham Jr. with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: They decided to go with a complementary weapon for Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Eli Manning is still a sound fantasy backup who has a bit more potential if New York can protect him a bit better. Beckham is a better long-term prospect than for 2014, but he's a capable reserve fantasy catcher due to his speed. Maybe Ben McAdoo will use him creatively.

Steelers | Need height at receiver

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 20:29:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Steelers might select a wide receiver with one of their first two picks, perhaps even with the No. 15 pick overall. If Texas A&M WR Mike Evans is available, the team likely would not hesitate to add him given the small stature of the other receivers on their roster. The team likes Louisiana State WR Odell Beckham, too, but he is right around 6-foot, and they seek a much taller target.
