Browns | CLE could ride hot hand at RB

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 13:57:17 -0700

Cleveland Browns RBs Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and Duke Johnson are expected to make up a three-headed committee this season in the backfield. Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has said there won't be a specific method for how touches are distributed, but Crowell is expected to begin the season as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell, West and Johnson all have the ability to be Cleveland's starting running back. Crowell and West both had stellar rookie campaigns in 2014, and Johnson has impressed everyone in his first offseason out of the University of Miami (Fla.). Crowell should be selected first in drafts, but this backfield could turn into a crapshoot.

Browns | Duke Johnson impressing

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 10:41:10 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has been performing well this offseason, showcasing his explosiveness and versatility. Johnson will compete with RBs Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West for the starting running back position.

Fantasy Tip: It's a crowded backfield in Cleveland, and Crowell and West played well in their rookie seasons last year. Don't be surprised if this turns into a committee. The Browns have already said Johnson will be moved around and won't play on every down. Right now, Crowell has the most value and is in RB3 territory. West and Johnson are more in the RB4 conversation as it stands.

Browns | Terrance West works with first team

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 19:38:56 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West had the first rep with the first-team offense in organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: West was ahead of Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson, etc., but it is still well early in the battle. This will be a situation to watch closely all throughout training camp and into the preseason.

Browns | Cleveland RBs to catch more passes?

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:51:45 -0700

Cleveland Browns RBs Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and Duke Johnson could be more involved in the passing game in 2015, according to offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. "Let's see if they can catch the ball, run a slant, run a hitch, run a go, run a comeback," DeFilippo said. "I want to see if those guys can do those things because that's going to be a big part of the offense that I want to incorporate here."

Fantasy Tip: Cleveland's backfield should take better shape as the offseason progresses, but it's definitely looking to be a committee with Crowell, West and Johnson. Crowell and West impressed in their rookie campaigns last season, and Johnson has all the tools to succeed in his rookie season. None of them are more than a low-end RB2 at this point.

Browns | Terrance West buried on depth chart

Mon, 22 Dec 2014 15:50:08 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West was behind RBs Isaiah Crowell and Shaun Draughn in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers, because Crowell and Draughn had a better practice week than West, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Fantasy Tip: West ($5,555) should no longer be in consideration for a start in FantasyScore lineups. Crowell ($5,555) is the much better option in the Browns backfield, but the matchup against a strong Baltimore Ravens run defense in Week 17 makes Crowell a RB3, at best.

Browns | Isaiah Crowell iffy

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 15:21:52 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 5, and is questionable for Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts. RB Terrance West would likely be the starter if Crowell can't play. However, West fumbled twice last week, leaving head coach Mike Pettine to leave open the possibility that West won't be in the lineup at all this week.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell ($6,100) said yesterday that he expects to play against the Colts. Check back Sunday morning to be sure. If he's playing, he matches up well against Indy, as they've been exploited by similar running backs in recent weeks. Take a flier on West ($4,500) if Crowell is ruled out.

Browns | Terrance West criticized for fumble

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 06:50:02 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West fumbled midway through the third quarter Sunday, Nov. 30, and it was returned for a touchdown. Head coach Mike Pettine criticized West after the game. "You can't be that loose with the football, it's inexcusable," Pettine said. "West really changed the whole flow of the game. It would have been a one-score game, and that's the frustrating thing. Close games are going to come down to turnovers. Like I said, the West fumble changed everything. It's inexcusable."

Fantasy Tip: Isaiah Crowell was ineffective with 17 carries for 29 yards, but he continues to be the bell cow back.

Browns | CLE rushing ball well in 2014

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 15:03:02 -0800

The Cleveland Browns have 14 rushing touchdowns this season, which is the most by the franchise since it had 14 in the 1989 season. The team had just four rushing touchdowns last season. Rookie RB Isaiah Crowell leads the way with seven touchdowns, while fellow rookie Terrance West has three. Departed RB Ben Tate (Vikings) also had four.

Browns | RB carousel will continue in CLE

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 07:56:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns RBs Ben Tate, Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West will continue to be mixed and matched on a weekly basis, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Crowell had a critical lost fumble Sunday, Nov. 16, but the team kept going to him despite the miscue. "It's something we'll look at week to week," Pettine said. "We're not just going to pick one. When you go in a game-plan situation you look at what gives us the best chance to win."

Fantasy Tip: This is a muddy situation, and it appears the team could feature any of the backs against a team they feel that back can exploit. Tate appears to be falling out of favor with just two carries in Week 11. Crowell has the advantage for now and serves as a cheap flex option on FantasyScore.
