Red Sox | Rusney Castillo to play OF soon

Fri, 01 May 2015 14:12:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) is expected to return to the outfield in the minor leagues early next week, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo is working his way back from a shoulder injury that prevented him from opening the year in the majors. Once he's gets enough playing time under his belt in the minors, he could be called up to Boston shortly after. He should be owned in all AL-only leagues, and it might be time to stash him away in deep mixed leagues to get ahead of your competition.

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) is scheduled to return to Triple-A Pawtucket after a stint on the 7-day disabled list in the minors due to inflammation of the right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Castillo will get the call to the big club, but he has to get healthy on the farm first.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo nearing return

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 21:39:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) is expected to serve as the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, April 29. He has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury since spring training.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if or when Castillo will be promoted to the big club so FantasyScore owners need not bother with him for now. However, if he gets hot with the PawSox he could be promoted.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo timetable for at-bats

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:24:15 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) could be the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, April 29. He is currently on the minor league disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Victorino's hamstring injury and Castillo's hefty contract could land Castillo in Boston sooner than later, and Castillo should be stashed in the majority of formats. Continue to check for updates on Castillo's recovery and for news of a recall. He has the upside to tip the scales in all fantasy categories.

Red Sox | No structural damage for Rusney Castillo

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 12:39:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo's (shoulder) MRI exam showed no structural damage in his shoulder, but the Red Sox do not have a timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox have no reason to rush Castillo back with Mookie Betts playing so well, and Boston has good outfield depth on the major league roster. It doesn't appear to be a significant injury for Castillo. Continue to stash him in all fantasy formats.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo injures shoulder

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 11:03:01 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (shoulder) injured his shoulder attempting to make a diving play at Triple-A Pawtucket over the weekend. The team didn't release extensive details, but multiple sources said the prognosis was encouraging. He'll be placed on the 7-day disabled list at Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo is one of the top prospects in the system, and this will curtail his quest for a callup for a bit. He could still surface sometime before the All-Star break.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo optioned by BoSox

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 12:50:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo was optioned to the minor leagues Thursday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) likely would have made the opening day roster if it weren't for an oblique injury in camp. He'll start down on the farm, but that doesn't mean you should dump him in standard 12-team leagues if you have the room. Castillo could be back in Boston shortly, and he's a high-upside commodity that can contribute across all categories.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo unlikely to make team

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 10:50:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) has been impressive in recent days after recovering from an oblique injury, but it appears unlikely that he'll have a spot on the opening day roster. OF Shane Victorino hasn't done anything to lose the starting right field job this spring. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. has had a good camp, but he's ticketed to start at Triple-A Pawtucket with Castillo.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should eventually figure into Boston's outfield situation in 2015. He possesses heaps of upside at the plate, and Victorino is likely to eventually need some time off. Castillo's fantasy value has faded a bit, but it just means that he could be a huge bargain now in the later rounds of standard drafts.

Red Sox | Allen Craig making case for spot

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 15:34:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig is hitting .276 in 36 spring at-bats, and he's looking more comfortable in his recovery from a Lisfranc injury to his left foot in 2014 that left him hitting just .128 in 29 games with the Red Sox after a summer trade. OF Shane Victorino is expected to be the starting right fielder, if healthy, but the team is still evaluating his readiness in camp. OF Daniel Nava is a lock for a roster spot as the main lefty bat off the bench. Craig may be out of a chance for a spot unless OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) opens up in the minors. "He's in great shape, and the foot's not an issue. He's taking better swings and having more consistent at-bats. (That time) beyond spring training is going to get here. I don't know how else we can go about it," manager John Farrell said.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Craig earns a roster spot for opening day, he's unlikely to see consistent playing time unless an injury opens up more playing time in the outfield. For that reason alone, Craig should only be considered in AL-only leagues, for now.

Red Sox | Rusney Castillo playing in game

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 10:35:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) is receiving his first Grapefruit League start in right field Monday, March 23. Castillo could see time in right this year if OF Shane Victorino misses any time.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news that Castillo is back in game action after an oblique strain, but he's likely to start in the minors in 2015, because the Red Sox want a better look at him. Castillo has the tools and upside to make a big impact in the bigs this year, but the absence of a clear path to playing time is the current problem. Consider Castillo in the later middle rounds for his upside, but you're unlikely to use him at FantasyScore in the opening week for $4,300 (8.6% of cap).
