|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo optioned|
Wed, 13 Apr 2016 19:32:28 -0700
Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo has been optioned to Class AAA Pawtucket. "This is an opportunity to get him down there and get the at-bats needed," said manager John Farrell, who added that the corresponding player to be promoted is not necessarily going to be an outfielder.
Fantasy Tip: As the club's fifth outfielder, Castillo wasn't seeing much playing time at the MLB level and had only collected four at-bats through the first eight games of the season. He should only be monitored in AL-only fantasy formats for now.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo will see his first plate appearances of the season Saturday and likely will be a fourth outfielder for the time being. Castillo probably should only be used in AL-only leagues at this point.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo could be sent down|
Wed, 06 Apr 2016 16:06:35 -0700
Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo could be sent down to Class AAA in order to see regular at-bats, according to manager John Farrell. Castillo has just 309 career at-bats at the major league level and is currently serving as the team's fifth outfielder. He was signed to a seven-year, $72.5 million deal in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in keeper and AL-only leagues will need to be patient and keep Castillo stashed. He's disappointed so far with a .262/.302/.379 slash line with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 329 plate appearances. Speed may be his biggest asset, but there's no clear avenue to playing time at the major league level right now, so he's not relevant in standard mixed leagues.

|Red Sox | Bad news for Rusney Castillo|
Tue, 29 Mar 2016 14:18:43 -0700
Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo will be more of a fill-in outfielder in left and center field with OF Brock Holt seeing the majority of playing time in left, according to manager John Farrell. Holt played seven positions in 2015 and hit .280 with a .727 OPS. Castillo has been a disappointment and is 10-for-44 (.227) with a .542 OPS in 16 spring games entering Tuesday, March 29. OF Chris Young is expected to play left field against left-handers.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo will basically enter as the team's fifth outfielder, which makes him more of an AL-only commodity with a chance to earn his way onto rosters in deep mixed leagues if more of an opportunity opens up. Holt is valuable mainly due to his multi-positional eligibility, which gives his owners plenty of flexibility in deeper leagues. But Holt has very limited upside without much power or hope for a high batting average.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo unlikely to be demoted|
Sun, 27 Mar 2016 08:06:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: In 80 games last year, the 28-year-old Castillo hit .253 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and four stolen bases. Although he has a ton of potential, he has struggled to put it all together due to a combination of injuries and inconsistency. He's not worth more than a late-round flier in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues at this point. Holt's positional versatility makes him a useful player to have as a reserve on fantasy teams, although he won't post eye-popping numbers in any particular offensive category.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo not a regular yet?|
Sat, 27 Feb 2016 20:33:36 -0800
Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo enters the 2016 season looking to stay healthy after a bevy of injuries slowed him last season. He is trying to win the starting left fielder job, and enters the spring trying to prove himself to manager John Farrell. "He's still not an established Major League player," president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo is trying to stay healthy, and fend off Brock Holt, Travis Shaw and Chris Young for at-bats. He has a ton of potential, and a little bit of speed, too. He is worth a roll of the dice in the final rounds on draft day as long as you have plenty of depth in case he doesn't pan out.

|Red Sox | Boston outfield set|
Tue, 26 Jan 2016 14:04:58 -0800
Boston Red Sox OFs Mookie Betts, Rusney Castillo and Jackie Bradley Jr. are set to be the starting outfielders in 2016, with Bradley in center field, Castillo in left and Betts in right. OF Chris Young is expected to start against left-handed pitchers and mix in regularly against righties.
Fantasy Tip: After the breakout year that Betts had in 2015, he's unlikely to make it past the second round of fantasy drafts. Young is expected to platoon with Bradley the most, so those two are more of targets in deep mixed leagues. Castillo is the wild card. He has plenty of talent but only had five homers in 80 games last year. A cheap investment there could yield plenty of value.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo working on swing|
Sat, 23 Jan 2016 14:39:09 -0800
Fantasy Tip: For all the potential and raw skills, there are still a lot of holes in Castillo's game. He was successful in just four of his nine steal attempts, and his .253/.288/.359 slash line last season was extremely underwhelming. He is projected to start in left field in 2016, but lefty-killer Chris Young could cut into his playing time, which is concerning. Still, view Castillo as a an excellent late-round gamble leading into the season given the upside he has flashed in spurts.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo to play winter ball|
Thu, 31 Dec 2015 18:28:29 -0800
Fantasy Tip: This marks the second consecutive year where Castillo will participate in winter ball, although he wasn't originally expected to do so this offseason. He is slated to begin 2016 as Boston's starting left fielder, after hitting .253 with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 80 games last season. He should be selected in the middle rounds of AL-only leagues and the later rounds of deep mixed leagues.

|Red Sox | Rusney Castillo back from injury|
Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:48:17 -0700
Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo (quadriceps) is starting in right field and batting fifth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Thursday, Oct. 1. OF Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) posted an uninspiring .225/.263/.292 slash line over 23 games in September, and he missed three games with the quad injury, so he doesn't stand as a strong FantasyScore option Thursday. View the outfielder as a potential contrarian flier.
