Tigers | Justin Upton out again

Wed, 25 May 2016 09:13:55 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton (quadriceps) is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 25, with OF Steven Moya hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moya has cooled after a strong start, and he's hitting .276 with two RBI this season. Aaron Nola has been great, but Moya is a sneaky low-end flyer in this potent offense.

Tigers | Justin Upton not starting Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:43:43 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton (quadriceps) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24, against the Philadelphia Phillies. OF Steven Moya is playing left field and will hit sixth against Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson. Upton may also miss Wednesday, May 25, as well, but that is not confirmed yet.

Fantasy Tip: Upton may be back in the lineup later this week, but even so his numbers have been less than stellar this season. He has only 37 hits in 43 games and a .223 batting average, but 66 strikeouts in 166 at-bats have made Upton a bad fantasy risk at the plate. Moya has little fantasy value at this point.

Tigers | Justin Upton out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:38:15 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton, C James McCann and Jose Iglesias are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Sunday, May 22. OF Steven Moya will play left field and bat sixth, C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start behind the plate and bat eighth and INF Andrew Romine will play shortstop and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia is batting just .163 over the last four weeks and Romine is just 1-for-16 at the plate this year, so both players should be avoided in all fantasy formats. Moya is 7-for-19 (.368) with three extra-base hits and is worth considering as a productive means of salary cap relief in DFS.

Tigers | Victor Martinez scratched

Wed, 18 May 2016 09:00:00 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez was scratched Wednesday, May 18, with OF Steven Moya hitting sixth. Martinez needed extra rest. 3B Nick Castellanos and OF Justin Upton moved up one spot to cleanup and fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Moya is 6-for-15 (.400) and has some luster against Ricky Nolasco. Castellanos is a daily consideration. Upton is another story. He's hitting .213 this month and .218 on the year. He's a big risk in DFS without a lot of positive signs.

Tigers | Cameron Maybin in center Monday

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:19:48 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Cameron Maybin is making his season debut in center field and is batting seventh against Minnesota Twins SP Jose Berrios Monday, May 16. OF Steven Moya is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin was activated off the DL today, and he could split time in the outfield with prospect Moya after Anthony Gose was sent down. The fact that Gose and not Moya was the odd-man out is telling. Maybin can provide modest speed and power numbers if he plays enough and is worth adding in deep mixed leagues if he's still available. Moya has raw power and also is worth rostering in deep mixed formats. The Tigers have tipped their hand that they want to continue giving him playing time at the major league level.

Tigers | Steven Moya starting first game

Thu, 12 May 2016 11:58:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya is starting in left field and is batting seventh against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez in his season debut Thursday, May 12. OF Justin Upton shifts to center field, while OF Anthony Gose will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers could use a boost in their outfield with both Upton and Gose struggling. The 24-year-old hitting outfielder has nice power (20 minor league homers last year) but swings and misses often. He should see decent playing time while he's up, which could hurt Upton and Gose. Add Moya immediately in dynasty and AL-only leagues. If you have the room, he's worth a cheap flyer in cavernous mixed affairs.

Tigers | Steven Moya called up

Thu, 12 May 2016 11:08:45 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya was recalled from the minors Thursday, May 12. RP Blaine Hardy was sent down in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Moya, one of Detroit's top position player prospects, was hitting .310 with nine home runs and 24 RBI in 31 games for Class AAA Toledo. With Justin Upton struggling mightily, Moya could see occasional starts in left field or in center to spell Anthony Gose. Moya is aggressive with nice pop but also strikes out often. Scoop him up in dynasty and AL-only leagues, but monitor him for now in deep mixed affairs to see how much playing time he receives.

Tigers | Victor Martinez out Saturday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:07:53 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez (quadriceps) is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with OF Steven Moya hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Moya ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is just 2-for-15 (.133) on the year and isn't a good FantasyScore option against Erik Johnson.

Tigers | Rajai Davis sitting vs. Indians

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 12:53:41 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis is not in the starting lineup Friday Sept. 11. OF Steven Moya is starting in left field and batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. The veteran has just 18 stolen bases and is having arguably a career-worst season. Moya ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) only has one plate appearance this season, but he hit 20 homer runs with a .240 batting average for Class AAA Toledo this season. He projects as a risky low-priced flier for FantasyScore players Friday.
