Giants | Matt Duffy close to rehab assignment

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:35:20 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') continues to make progress and is a week away from starting a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy has posted an underwhelming .253/.313/.358 slash line this season with only four home runs and 21 RBI in 70 games. He's not worth stashing outside of very deep mixed leagues and NL-only universes.

Giants | Still no timeline for Matt Duffy

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 14:37:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') is running well, but there still is not a date for him to begin a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy is a stash candidate, but if you're forced to make a tough roster decision, he hasn't been a great fantasy contributor this season and clearly isn't close to returning. Plus, he's posted an underwhelming .253/.313/.358 slash line this year.

Giants | Matt Duffy making progress

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 22:53:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') has been running on a treadmill, as he makes his way back from an Achilles' injury.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy was struggling before his injury, failing to live up to lofty expectations after a strong 2015 campaign. He is worth scooping up off the waiver wire, however, if he is available as a stash candidate.

Giants | Matt Duffy hitting Tuesday

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 17:01:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') will hit on the field Tuesday, July 5, but manager Bruce Bochy said Duffy will not return until after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy has found it difficult to match his successful 2015 season (.295-12-77) and was hitting just .253 with four home runs and 21 RBI in 70 games before his injury. At third base, Duffy's lack of power doesn't play in mixed leagues.

Giants | Matt Duffy headed to DL

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 20:04:54 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') will be placed on the disabled list shortly and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Tough break for Duffy, who was thought to be available for duty off the bench tonight. He has mostly underwhelmed in 70 games this season, batting .253 with four homers and 21 RBI - all of which are significantly off the .295 average, 12 home runs and 77 RBI marks he posted in 149 contests last season. Duffy can be dropped in shallow leagues if placing him on the DL isn't an option. Conor Gillaspie and Kelby Tomlinson should be the favorites for playing time in his absence, but both can be ignored outside of NL-only leagues.

Giants | Matt Duffy will have MRI exam

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 14:16:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') is sore and will have an MRI on his Achilles', but he is expected to be available off the bench for the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday, June 20.

Fantasy Tip: Sub out Duffy where you can in seasonal leagues, but it doesn't sound like the injury is too serious. Reiterating a previous tip, Duffy has been underwhelming this year and isn't a must-own player in shallower formats. Stay tuned for updates.

Giants | Matt Duffy sitting with an injury

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 12:31:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 20, after injuring his Achilles' Sunday, June 19. INF Ramiro Pena is starting at third base and batting sixth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Duffy is having an extremely mediocre season, and his .253/.313/.358 slash line hurts the appeal of his counting stats (32 runs, four home runs, 21 RBI and eight stolen bases). You can hold onto him in deep mixed leagues, but he isn't worth keeping in shallow setups. Pena is a fantasy afterthought at this point.

Giants | Matt Duffy leaves game

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 13:16:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (unspecified) left his team's game Sunday, June 19, after he was hurt running the bases. No information on the injury was given.

Fantasy Tip: An injury running the bases could mean hamstring or something in the legs. Either way, this is worth monitoring. Stay tuned to see whether Duffy needs time on the disabled list and whether he needs to be removed from your team temporarily.

Giants | Brandon Belt hitting third

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 15:03:20 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is hitting third Saturday, June 11, with 3B Matt Duffy down to the fifth spot.

Fantasy Tip: Belt is hitting third against left-hander Scott Kazmir. This speaks volumes for his progression as a hitter. He hit .263 against lefties from 2013-15, and he's hitting .286 against southpaws this season. He's a solid option in the upper-middle area of the position. Duffy is hitting just .200 this month but remains a fringe target in DFS.

Giants | Matt Duffy returns to the lineup

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 13:10:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants 3B Matt Duffy (wrist) is starting at third base and batting third against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Return Duffy to your lineup if you were relying on him as a starter, but he's been a disappointment thus far in 2016. After returning modest five-category production last year, Duffy has just 12 RBI this season with a .245/.307/.342 slash line, and in a lot of leagues, you have to aim higher.
