Reds | Cody Reed logs first quality start

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:55:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Cody Reed recorded the first quality start of his career Tuesday, July 19, against the Atlanta Braves. He fired six innings and scattered just five hits, while yielding two runs (zero earned). The southpaw also struck out five and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: Well, it took him six big league outings but Reed was finally able to rack up his first quality start here, and he did it in fairly impressive fashion. The potential is there, as Reed gained recognition for his strikeout ability in the minor leagues, and it's been prevalent thus far since being called up, as he now has 34 strikeouts in 30 2/3 total innings. He's worth being monitored for that reason alone, though owners should also keep in mind that Cincinnati is 0-6 in his starts.

Reds | Cody Reed shelled again

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 18:36:51 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Cody Reed allowed eight runs, four earned, on five is while walking three and striking out two in a loss to the Chicago Cubs Monday, July 4. He owns a 9.00 ERA after four starts, and manager Bryan Price said Reed has to "fight his way through" his struggles.

Fantasy Tip: Reed has solid strikeout potential, but he is only worth stashing in NL-only leagues at this point.

Reds | Cody Reed hit hard again in loss

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 16:03:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Cody Reed struggled again in his third major league start Wednesday, June 29, losing to the Chicago Cubs to drop his record to 0-2. The first-year southpaw lasted just four innings, surrendering seven runs on nine hits, including three homers. He also struck out five and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: Being a recent second-round draft pick with good swing-and-miss stuff, Reed had a little bit of hype entering his first go-around with the Reds, but has floundered significantly. After an encouraging first start on June 18, Reed has been lit up in each of his past two starts, and is therefore a dangerous option right now, no matter the format. He may have worthwhile potential, though, so he's not a bad stash in the deepest of leagues.
