Dolphins | Kenyan Drake runs for 54 yards

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 20:33:51 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake rushed eight times for 54 yards and caught three passes for four yards in a 27-20 preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Frank Gore is going to see some touches, but Drake is the more explosive back. He's a low-end RB2 candidate.

Dolphins | Miami pulls surprises with first depth chart

Sun, 05 Aug 2018 12:30:27 -0700

Miami Dolphins RBs Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore both appeared atop the team's first depth chart Sunday, Aug. 5. Another one of the more notable surprises was TE Mike Gesicki, who was listed as the fifth-string tight end.

Fantasy Tip: This comes with the obvious caveat that depth charts released a month before the first game can usually be taken with a grain of salt. For example, Gesicki is in no danger of getting cut and has reportedly looked very good in camp. Drake should still be considered the favorite to lead this team in all rushing categories, but owners need to understand he will probably lose at least 100 to 150 touches to Gore, making him a bit of an untrustworthy RB2 in fantasy.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake opens camp with starters

Thu, 26 Jul 2018 16:23:01 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake opened up with the starters on the first day of training camp Thursday, July 26, and looked "very good."

Fantasy Tip: Drake exhibited enormous potential last year when he got the keys to Miami's backfield after the club jettisoned Jay Ajayi to Philadelphia. However, his workload may not be as significant entering the new campaign, with the Dolphins bringing in Frank Gore to potentially serve as the "1B" running back. Owners should wait to see how this plays out through August.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake not a lock to start

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 10:55:02 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake will not be guaranteed a starting job in 2018 as he battles Frank Gore in camp, according to comments made by running backs coach Eric Studesville to The Miami Herald this week.

Fantasy Tip: The Herald's Armando Salguero went so far as to say the Dolphins will determine the roles in training camp during what will be "more a competition than coronation." While Drake still remains the favorite, Gore didn't sign with Miami to be a little-used backup. Miami is also reportedly smitten with Kalen Ballage and his potential, although Salguero emphasizes he will not push for the top spot right away. Drake should lead the backfield in touches, but Gore figures to be a drain on his fantasy value.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake ready for breakout?

Thu, 10 May 2018 10:13:16 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake is ready to "bust out" this season, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: We can only assume that "bust out" and "break out" are the same thing. Gase is right, though, Drake is a prime breakout candidate heading into 2018. His main competition will be soon-to-be 35-year-old Frank Gore, but Gore should primarily be used in short-yardage and goal-line scenarios. Drake sits comfortably in RB2 territory with added PPR appeal.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake bulking up

Sat, 14 Apr 2018 18:56:33 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake said Friday, April 13, that he has added more than five pounds this offseason to handle a full season as the starting back.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins added Frank Gore during free agency, but Drake should still be the lead back. After impressing as the starter down the stretch last season, he's a RB2 candidate heading into 2018.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake third-most elusive RB in '17

Thu, 22 Feb 2018 23:24:12 -0800

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake ranked as the third-most elusive running back under an NFL "Next Gen Stats" metric that measured yardage gained after defenders got within a yard of the ball-carrier. Drake finished third (4.55 yards), behind only New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (4.76) and Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt (4.63).

Fantasy Tip: Drake definitely showed something special last year after the team jettisoned Jay Ajayi right before the trade deadline. Overall, the second-year tailback rushed for 644 yards on 133 rush attempts -- good for an impressive 4.8 yards per carry -- to go with three touchdowns. He also accumulated 32 catches in the passing game for 239 yards and one receiving score. Assuming he's the full-time starter next year, Drake is looking like a solid RB2.
