49ers | Two 49ers out until Week 1

Fri, 10 Aug 2018 16:07:56 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida (shoulder) and TE George Kittle (shoulder) both suffered separated shoulders during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9, and will both be sidelined until Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Breida and Kittle both have a chance to be solid contributors on offense for the 49ers this season if healthy. Breida can be a low-end No. 3 or a No. 4 running back in most leagues, while Kittle should be seen as a No. 2 fantasy tight end.

49ers | Matt Breida to miss some preseason games

Fri, 10 Aug 2018 14:09:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida (shoulder) will be held out of contact drills and at least the next two preseason games so the team can make sure he is ready for Week 1, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Breida will not start this season but should receive a decent amount of touches as Jerick McKinnon's backup. He played well last season and could be a low-end No. 3 or a No. 4 back for fantasy owners.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon not featured?

Thu, 09 Aug 2018 09:13:20 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon may not be used as a bell-cow running back, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Graziano posits that there will be weeks when RB Matt Breida plays on early downs.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon isn't really a bell-cow type anyway, although he will receive most of the touches out of San Francisco's backfield. Breida is seemingly underrated and worth a look in later rounds, if not only as a McKinnon handcuff. The latter remains a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in PPR scoring.

49ers | Matt Breida likely to remain in same role

Tue, 24 Jul 2018 09:50:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida finished with 126 touches as a rookie - a workload that 49ers.com's Joe Fann will match and perhaps exceed by a bit in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: There's been plenty of talk that Breida will play the Tevin Coleman to Jerick McKinnon's Devonta Freeman and it makes sense. At 190 pounds, Breida isn't likely to hold up to a heavy workload, but he does provide a versatile skill set as a runner and receiver and possesses big-play ability. Not only should he make for a nice handcuff for McKinnon, but he should also bring significant upside to any fantasy bench.

49ers | Matt Breida could still have big role

Sat, 17 Mar 2018 15:21:37 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida is still expected to have a meaningful role even after the team signed RB Jerick McKinnon to be their lead back. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday, March 17, that he envisions the combination of McKinnon and Breida to be similar to Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, a group that combined for 1,600 rushing yards and 85 receptions in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Breida will be the primary backup to McKinnon, but Joe Williams, Jeremy McNichols and Raheem Mostert are also in the mix and fighting for touches, too. Breida will be a good late-round handcuff to McKinnon, particularly in PPR formats.
