Lions | Quiet night for Kerryon Johnson

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 19:32:09 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson rushed four times for nine yards and caught one pass for 10 yards in a 30-17 preseason loss to the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Although Johnson didn't back up his huge performance from the first preseason game, he did play with the first-team. He should have a role on early downs immediately, and he could emerge as the lead back sooner rather than later. He is well worth the investment as a RB4, and he should be a first-round selection in rookie drafts.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson does well in debut

Fri, 10 Aug 2018 23:42:34 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson gained 67 total yards (34 rushing, 33 receiving) against the Oakland Raiders on Friday, Aug. 10. He also had a 57-yard run that was erased on a holding penalty.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the presence of steady vets LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick, Johnson is the best combination of rushing and receiving ability the team has in the backfield. He showed speed and toughness in his preseason debut and should push for a larger slice of the pie if he can keep it up. Consider Johnson an RB4/RB5 with some juice in the later rounds.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson impressing early

Wed, 01 Aug 2018 23:42:22 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson has consistently displayed good speed and vision as a runner thus far in camp, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Fantasy Tip: Rothstein goes on to say that LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick will still get their touches, so it's not like Johnson is distancing himself from the competition, but the rookie is clearly the back with upside in Motown. Johnson has late-round appeal as a fourth or fifth RB.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson in line to start?

Thu, 12 Jul 2018 19:36:34 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson heads into training camp with a "good chance" to earn the lead role, in the opinion of Nick Shook of NFL.com.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Johnson enters the season as the starter, he won't be an every-down back just yet. LeGarrette Blount will likely earn some touches, and Theo Riddick is penciled in for passing downs. Johnson looks like a RB4 with upside in redraft leagues, and he could be worth a late first-round pick in rookie drafts.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson returning kicks

Fri, 22 Jun 2018 20:45:37 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson spent time returning kickoffs during spring practices.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has long-term upside, but he will have to deal with a crowded backfield as a rookie. Returning kicks won't help his fantasy stock much, but he is still worth grabbing as a RB4 in redraft leagues.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson can do it all

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 18:14:40 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson is a "three-down player" and can handle all situations, according to running backs coach David Walker.

Fantasy Tip: With LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick also in the backfield, Johnson probably won't have the opportunity to be a workhorse this season. Still, he's an appealing RB4 with upside in redraft leagues and a great asset in keeper leagues.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson set for big role?

Fri, 25 May 2018 18:31:04 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount were "no doubt" the top two running backs during OTAs Thursday, May 24, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has the long-term upside, but he and Blount will likely split carries on early downs and near the goal line in some capacity. Keep an eye on the situation because there is a good chance one of these backs emerges as a RB3.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah unlikely to contribute much

Fri, 18 May 2018 09:24:11 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount are expected to receive much of the early-down work with Theo Riddick playing a third-down role, potentially leaving Ameer Abdullah potentially as a game-day inactive or on the roster bubble, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.
