Dolphins | Mike Gesicki may be used at WR

Tue, 07 Aug 2018 16:55:20 -0700

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has the skill set to play outside as a wide receiver if the Dolphins choose to implement him there, according to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. Gesicki's size and athleticism make him a mismatch anywhere on the field.

Fantasy Tip: Gesicki needs to prove himself before we can give him serious credence. The talent is there, sure, but we can't consider him a starting fantasy tight end right now.

Dolphins | Miami pulls surprises with first depth chart

Sun, 05 Aug 2018 12:30:27 -0700

Miami Dolphins RBs Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore both appeared atop the team's first depth chart Sunday, Aug. 5. Another one of the more notable surprises was TE Mike Gesicki, who was listed as the fifth-string tight end.

Fantasy Tip: This comes with the obvious caveat that depth charts released a month before the first game can usually be taken with a grain of salt. For example, Gesicki is in no danger of getting cut and has reportedly looked very good in camp. Drake should still be considered the favorite to lead this team in all rushing categories, but owners need to understand he will probably lose at least 100 to 150 touches to Gore, making him a bit of an untrustworthy RB2 in fantasy.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki 'playing fast'

Fri, 03 Aug 2018 11:19:10 -0700

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki is "playing fast," according to head coach Adam Gase. "I think him taking so many reps over spring and then minicamp's been good for him. He's playing fast. He's not thinking. We have a good feel for some things at least, our starting point with him. What we want to keep working with him on. See if we can really accelerate him and his growth. But right now I like the way they (Gesicki and Ryan Tannehill) are working together to make plays," Gase told reporters after practice Friday, Aug. 3.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki 'exactly as advertised'

Sun, 29 Jul 2018 12:39:19 -0700

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki received his most extensive first-team work and caught two touchdown passes in practice Sunday, July 29. According to tight ends coach Shane Day, he has been competent as a blocker as well through four days of camp and two days of practicing in upper pads. "I'm very pleased where he's at with his blocking. He's right on track. He's really improved this spring. He's right where I would expect him to be as a rookie. … He's very physical and likes contact. … He's exactly as advertised (as a receiver). … We're asking him to do different techniques a little different from what he did in college and he's adjusting to it well," Day said.

Fantasy Tip: While it is unreasonable to expect any rookie to be this year's Evan Engram, Gesicki is the most likely to do so. His receiving skills are already exceptional for a rookie, so his emergence this season figures to come down to whether or not he is making the strides as a blocker Day says he is. While rookie tight ends are notoriously bad bets in fantasy, Gesicki has the goods to be a top-20 fantasy tight end in 2018.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki starting slow

Fri, 08 Jun 2018 11:06:29 -0700

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has been a non-factor in the four practices open to reporters the spring and even looked lost at times, according to Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald.

Fantasy Tip: If this is a topic of discussion in August, then Miami might have a problem. Until then, it is way too early to hit the panic button. Beasley admitted Gesicki flashed some of the talent in closed sessions that convinced the Dolphins to use a second-round pick on him. Given his relatively limited route tree at Penn State, it was always likely he would look lost right off the bat. Owners should still view him as a high-upside TE2 in redraft formats this summer as a tight end who should see plenty of work in the slot.

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has "been on it with assignments" during OTAs, according to tight ends coach Shane Day, and Day said Gesicki is "on the right track" as a blocker."

Fantasy Tip: Even if Gesicki needs a little time to develop as a blocker, his skills as a receiver should put him in TE2 territory immediately.

Dolphins | Miami wants Mike Gesicki on the field

Sat, 12 May 2018 18:56:13 -0700

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said they could use more sets with three tight ends this year in order to utilize TE Mike Gesicki.

Fantasy Tip: All signs continue to point to Gesicki having a sizeable role in the offense. The rookie isn't a complete package at the position, but he is ready to contribute as a receiver immediately. He is a TE2 with a bunch of upside.
