Browns | Josh McCown guaranteed $6.25 million

Sat, 28 Feb 2015 14:33:06 -0800

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has $6.25 million in guarantees in his three-year deal, and he'll make $5.25 million in 2015. The value of his deal is $14 million with the chance to make $20 million, according to a source that has seen the contract.

Fantasy Tip: McCown would be a low-end QB2 if he wins the starting job.

Browns | Three-year deal for Josh McCown

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 16:37:32 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown signed a three-year deal Friday, Feb. 27, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. McCown completed 184 of 327 passes for 2,206 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014. McCown has a good relationship with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo from their days with the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: The signing of McCown likely means Brian Hoyer will move on and try to land a job elsewhere. McCown will likely compete for the starting quarterback job with Johnny Manziel in training camp. If McCown wins the job, he offers very little upside, despite having succeeded in the NFL before. He's nothing more than a weak QB2 selection if he's starting.

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) has signed with the Cleveland Browns, according to his agent. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Browns | Browns in talks with Josh McCown

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 20:32:53 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) has had contract talks with the Cleveland Browns in addition to the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: He would likely have a chance to compete for the starting job in Cleveland, but unless the Browns upgrade their weapons in the passing game significantly this offseason, McCown wouldn't have much fantasy value as the starter.

Bills | Buffalo looking to land Josh McCown

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 08:06:04 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) is having contract negotiations with the Buffalo Bills, but it is not known if the Bills are the leading candidate to sign McCown, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McCown could compete with EJ Manuel for the starting job if he joins the Bills. McCown probably would only be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy drafts next season if he won the starting job.

NFL | Josh McCown to decide by next week

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 04:38:20 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) is expected to decide on a new team by early next week. The Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns are considered strong suitors.

Fantasy Tip: McCown could start in Buffalo, but Cleveland is a situation where he could end up throwing until Johnny Manziel is truly ready. Wait and see where he lands. For now, McCown is a QB2 option who could drop to QB3.

Browns | Josh McCown visiting

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 14:26:43 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) is visiting the Cleveland Browns Tuesday, Feb. 24, and Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Even if McCown ends up signing with Cleveland and winning the starting job, he's still not worth starting on fantasy squads, especially when he would be without the services of suspended WR Josh Gordon.

Jets | Hope to turn Geno Smith into winner

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 20:16:55 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith might soon have company despite the fact general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is "committed" to trying to turn Smith into a winning quarterback. The team met with free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has been mostly a disaster in his first two seasons, and he is certainly not a quarterback fantasy owners can pin their hopes to. Smith likely would need to take a giant leap forward to be the starter in Week 1 of the 2015 season.

Jets | Josh McCown meets with Jets

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 15:40:24 -0800

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Buccaneers) met with the New York Jets Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Jets have said they are not ready to give up on QB Geno Smith, but are also exploring options at the position, including interviewing QBs Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota this week.

Fantasy Tip: Again, no matter where McCown signs, he won't have a ton of fantasy value. He may not even be the starting quarterback at his next location. McCown is firmly in fantasy backup quarterback territory.
