Jets | Josh McCown will start at camp

Thu, 14 Jun 2018 10:35:53 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown will begin training camp as the starting quarterback, according to head coach Todd Bowles. The starter for Week 1, however, is up in the air.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets will have a legitimate competition between McCown, Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater. McCown has the experience and past success to give him the edge, but Darnold and Bridgewater are young and talented. Whoever starts in New York will only be a bye-week replacement or spot start at best.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater could be Week 1 starter

Thu, 24 May 2018 12:15:24 -0700

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater will be considered for the starting quarterback job Week 1 if he plays well during the preseason and QB Sam Darnold shows he is not ready to play, according to sources. QB Josh McCown likely would be the starter if Bridgewater and Darnold struggle during the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation during training camp and the preseason to see if Darnold, Bridgewater or McCown will be the starting quarterback. None of the quarterbacks would be more than a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Tue, 27 Mar 2018 11:48:22 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown will enter training camp as the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: McCown played well this past season and was a valuable fantasy option in most leagues. He may not be the starter for the entire 2018 season but should be at least a high-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback was long as he starts.

Jets | Josh McCown to be starter

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 14:15:48 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has been told that he will be the starting quarterback for the Jets in 2018, but the team is still interested in signing Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is coming off a solid 2017 season and appears to be a bridge quarterback for the Jets. He probably will have most of his receivers back and could be a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback that can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback against certain opponents.

Jets | Josh McCown back with Jets

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 13:44:12 -0700

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Jets) agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal to re-sign with the New York Jets, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McCown overachieved in his first season with the Jets. He'll be 39 years old before the 2018 season commences, but his 20.1 fantasy points per game last year were tied with Drew Brees for 15th in the NFL. If he can even come close to what he did in 2017 he'll be a serviceable bye-week replacement at worst this season.

Jets | One more year for Josh McCown?

Sat, 10 Mar 2018 20:47:34 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Josh McCown will likely be re-signed to a one-year deal worth about $8 million, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, and Cimini believes McCown will serve as a "bridge" quarterback to a rookie.

Fantasy Tip: McCown had a solid year for the Jets in 2017, and if he ends up back in New York, he can be a useful QB2 as long as he is starting.

Jets | Josh McCown hopes to return to Jets

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 15:08:48 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Josh McCown said he hopes to re-sign with the Jets this offseason and would not have a problem being a bridge quarterback for the team.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is coming off a very good 2017 season where he threw for 2,926 yards and 18 touchdowns. He may be able to find a starting job even if he does not re-sign with the Jets, so owners should monitor him during free agency. He could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts for a team next season.

Jets | Josh McCown close to 100 percent

Thu, 25 Jan 2018 17:56:08 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (hand) said his broken left hand that he sustained in the club's Week 14 matchup against the Denver Broncos is still "healing up" and that he's just "a few weeks away" from being 100 percent.

Fantasy Tip: McCown exceeded any and all expectations in his first season with the Jets prior to going down due to injury, as the 38-year-old ended up with an impressive 94.5 passer rating, which is his career best for a season in which he played more than eight games. From a fantasy perspective, if McCown were to be back in New York next year, it's very likely he wouldn't be able to duplicate his 2017 success, however. He'll be more of a guy for two-quarterback formats.

Jets | Josh McCown intends to play in 2018

Tue, 23 Jan 2018 18:26:28 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Josh McCown is leaning toward playing in 2018 and is hopeful he can do so with the Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Despite turning 38 before the season began, McCown set career highs in completion percentage (67.3), passing yards (2,926), passing touchdowns (18) and rushing touchdowns (five). Of course, New York parted ways with the offensive coordinator that helped make his season possible, stacking the odds against McCown being able to repeat his success. The Jets also figure to be drafting a quarterback in the first round this spring, meaning McCown could be replaced at any point during the season.

Jets | NYJ open to Josh McCown return

Tue, 02 Jan 2018 09:24:11 -0800

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan is open to bringing back impending free-agent QB Josh McCown. "I still think there's good football left in Josh... Based on what Josh has done, I'd have no problem bringing him back," Maccagnan said.

Fantasy Tip: McCown was a good fit in John Morton's quick-hitting offense in 2017, so a reunion makes a ton of sense considering Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are not the future at the position in New York. Ideally, the Jets find a way to land a blue-chip signal-caller in this year's draft that McCown can hand over the job to midway through the 2018 season or no later than 2019.

Jets | Josh McCown could return

Mon, 01 Jan 2018 15:07:30 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Josh McCown is a player the Jets would be interested in re-signing this offseason, according to head coach Todd Bowles. McCown still has not decided if he will continue his playing career.

Fantasy Tip: McCown was a solid starting quarterback for the Jets this season and finished with 2,926 yards and 18 touchdowns. He probably would start again in 2018 if he returns to the Jets and would be a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Jets | Josh McCown unsure of future

Thu, 28 Dec 2017 20:14:20 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown said he will have to talk with his family before he decides if he will play in 2018, but he said it would be exciting to work with offensive coordinator John Morton for another year.

Fantasy Tip: McCown will be a free agent after this season. If he does decide to play again in 2018 and can land a starting gig, he has QB2 potential.

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 15:55:19 -0800

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 12:10:09 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (hand) is done for the season and will have surgery to fix his broken left hand, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Bryce Petty should finish the season out as the starter, but Christian Hackenberg could also be given some repetitions if the Jets want to further evaluate the position heading into the offseason. Neither player deserves fantasy attention.

Jets | Josh McCown suffers broken hand

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 16:34:08 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Josh McCown (hand) suffered a broken left hand in Week 14 against the Denver Broncos, head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Sunday, Dec. 10. The team isn't sure if this ends his season.

Fantasy Tip: If McCown is forced to miss time it would mean Bryce Petty likely takes over as the team's starting quarterback. That's a huge downgrade for the fantasy value of receivers like Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, etc.

Jets | Josh McCown taken to locker room

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 14:56:02 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (back) was taken to the locker room in the third quarter of the Week 14 game against the Denver Broncos. QB Bryce Petty replaced him.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if McCown will be able to return to the game or not, but the Jets trail the Broncos 20-0 early in the fourth quarter and he tried to come back and couldn't, so it appears his day is likely over.

Jets | Josh McCown to start final four games

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 23:10:01 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown will remain the team's starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, barring injury, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Bowles had already sort of said this without saying it, but in the process left open the interpretation that Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg could step in if/when the Jets were mathematically eliminated. That won't be the case. McCown has been surprisingly effective this season, including back-to-back 300-plus-yard games the past two weeks, and is a serviceable No. 1 quarterback against the free-falling Broncos this Sunday.

Jets | Josh McCown accounts for three touchdowns

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 14:37:01 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 26-for-36 for 331 yards and one touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. He also rushed for 19 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a very good quarterback for the Jets this season and has also become a decent fantasy option for owners. He will be facing a solid Denver Broncos defense in Week 14 but can still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 15:20:47 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (wrist) was a full participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is coming off one of his best efforts of 2017, as he surpassed 300 yards for the second time this season. It was also his second three-touchdown performance as well, and he's tossed just one pick in the last four weeks. As a result, the veteran journeyman will be on the streaming radar for quarterback-desperate owners seeking a low-end QB1 this weekend.

Wed, 29 Nov 2017 14:54:52 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (wrist) was able to participate in a full practice session on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: McCown received a vote of confidence from his coach Todd Bowles earlier this week, and he'll be the guy under center in New York for the remainder of the season. How strange is it that the Jets have more stability at the quarterback position right now than their stadium counterparts, the Giants?

Tue, 28 Nov 2017 06:38:06 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown will continue to be the starter while the Jets are mathematically alive in the playoff hunt, according to multiple team sources.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is quietly having a really good season. He has completed 67.3 percent of his passes, 2,549 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight picks. He has thrown for at least two touchdowns six times this season. He's a matchup play in fantasy, but the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 might not be the one to pick.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown completed 19 of his 36 passes for 307 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has at least one touchdown pass in each of his past seven outings, and he has two or more TD passes in five of those contests with two rushing touchdowns during the span. He has emerged as a decent QB2 in most fantasy leagues using two starting signal callers. The Jets host the skidding Chiefs in Week 13.

Jets | Josh McCown could remain in NY in 2018

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 18:30:55 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown could return to the team next season, as suggested by general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question that McCown has exceeded any and all expectations in his first year with the Jets, especially since he was merely supposed to be a bridge quarterback. The 38-year-old has been enjoying a renaissance season, posting a 96.1 QB Rating, which would be the second-highest of his career if it holds, but owners shouldn't invest too much into the longtime journeyman. Sooner than later, it seems likely McCown will begin to regress towards his norm.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown attempted 20 passes, completing 14 of them for 140 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 9 win over the Buffalo Bills. McCown added 13 yards and a touchdown as a runner.

Fantasy Tip: McCown was in full game manager mode Thursday night, throwing for a season-low 140 yards in the process. He did account for multiple TDs for the fifth straight game, though, so he at least deserves a roster spot as a QB2.

Jets | Josh McCown fully practices

Thu, 26 Oct 2017 14:39:00 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (back) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been an under-the-radar fantasy quarterback in 2017. The Jets have been forced to pass early and often frequently and McCown has held his own. In fact, he currently sits at the QB10 spot through seven weeks. Don't be afraid to plug him into your starting lineup, especially if byes and/or injuries abound at the position.

Jets | Josh McCown already has franchise history

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 18:04:03 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown is the second quarterback in franchise history, joining retired QB Al Dorow, to have at least three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the same game, pulling off this feat in Week 7 on Sunday, Oct. 22, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been everything the Jets could have hoped for when they signed him over the offseason, registering a 91.5 QB Rating through the first seven games of the campaign. However, he's really just a streaming option for most leagues, and a solid QB2 option in formats that employ two quarterbacks.

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 14:58:47 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (back) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has really held his own in what has been a relatively lackluster Jets offense. New York will likely be forced to pass early and often versus the Atlanta Falcons this weekend, making McCown a reasonable starting option considering all the bye weeks.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown completed 17 of his 27 pass attempts for 209 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins. He also ran for a 1-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: McCown isn't someone to rely upon as a regular in most fantasy formats, but he isn't a terrible streaming option when you need a bye-week replacement. The Jets host the Falcons in Week 8.

Jets | Josh McCown practices

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 13:03:13 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a solid starter for the Jets this season but has thrown for over 200 yards in only two games this season. McCown could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues because the New England Patriots pass defense has struggled during the early part of the season.

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 15:10:23 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Tip: McCown appears to be in line to start Week 6 against the New England Patriots. His season high in passing yardage is just 249, he has managed five touchdown strikes and just two interceptions over his past four games. He could have a surprising day against a poor Patriots defense, so consider him as a streaming option if you're desperate due to bye weeks. He also makes for a nice low-priced DFS target.

Jets | Josh McCown fully practices

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 12:27:00 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a decent quarterback for the Jets this season but has only thrown for three touchdowns in four games this season. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options and can avoid McCown even though he has a favorable matchup.
