Browns | Josh McCown staying with Browns?

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:54:46 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown seems to have a better chance of staying in Cleveland after Cleveland traded down from their No. 2 overall pick. "I don't know what's going to happen," McCown said. "I'm not going to worry about that. I'm just going to focus on what I've got to do today and go and work hard."

Fantasy Tip: That's the mentality of a veteran quarterback, albeit a veteran quarterback who will play a backup role this season behind Robert Griffin III. McCown could still be traded, of course, if the Browns draft Paxton Lynch with their No. 8 overall pick, or someone else later in the draft. He's not on the fantasy radar as of now.

Browns | Joe Haden endorses Jalen Ramsey

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 17:21:01 -0700

Cleveland Browns CB Joe Haden said he wants to the team to draft Florida State CB Jalen Ramsey with the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and he said he thinks the offense can succeed with QB Robert Griffin III or QB Josh McCown.

Broncos | Josh McCown could land in Denver

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:16:03 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown could be an option for the Denver Broncos if the Broncos can't acquire San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: McCown looked good early last season and would have a lot to work with in Denver. He's pretty limited from a fantasy perspective, though, and he'd be a backup regardless.

Browns | Josh McCown shows up for workouts

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 09:46:47 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown showed up for the start of offseason workouts with Cleveland Monday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a surprise, as McCown stated he would like to compete with Robert Griffin III and possibly an early round draft pick if he remains with the team. The problem is McCown is unlikely to remain with the Browns, and he could be an option for the Denver Broncos or New York Jets. Wherever he lands, he's nothing more than a fantasy backup if he wins a starting job.

Browns | Josh McCown wants to compete

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 10:30:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown, who is expected to be released or traded, said he would like to remain with the Browns and compete with QB Robert Griffin III. McCown also said he's open to sitting behind Griffin and helping him if that's what the organization chooses. "The Browns' quarterback woes have been well-documented. For us to put a good quarterback on the field who can be productive and help our team win, that's our ultimate goal," McCown said. "We'll see how it plays out, but I look forward to working with him."

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect McCown to be with Cleveland by the time training camps begin. He's a veteran journeyman that has had his moments in the NFL, but he's not ideal starting material. He could win a starting job if he's traded elsewhere, but even then he would be nothing more than a fantasy backup.

49ers | Josh McCown an option for Niners

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 11:25:40 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is an option for the San Francisco 49ers if they part ways with QB Colin Kaepernick. 49ers quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell, who worked with McCown in Cleveland, would like to work with him again.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is at most a second quarterback in two-QB leagues.

Broncos | Josh McCown on Denver's list

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 10:38:32 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is on a speculative list of quarterbacks that the Denver Broncos will consider in order to compete with QB Mark Sanchez.

Fantasy Tip: McCown and Sanchez are similar quarterbacks that have had some success in the past, but not much of it. Both are more game-manager types, which is apparently what Denver is looking for to go with their strong defense. Neither QB would be a fantasy starting option if they were to win the job.

Browns | Josh McCown on the trade block

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:52:13 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is on the trade block Thursday, March 24, after the Browns signed QB Robert Griffin III.

Fantasy Tip: McCown played really well last season, but he's a low-end QB2 if he lands in a place to groom a young quarterback.

Browns | Josh McCown's future up in the air

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:13:27 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has no promises that he'll be around in 2016 if Cleveland signs free-agent QB Robert Griffin III (Redskins) or another veteran quarterback. McCown could also be traded if the Browns sign Griffin. The Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears were interested in McCown before he signed last year.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine McCown starting for any team in 2016, but he could be brought in to compete for a job. He's had some nice runs in a starting role but is too inconsistent and has become injury-prone at age 36. He shouldn't be on any fantasy radars.

Jets | New York interested in Josh McCown

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 12:09:20 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has drawn interest from the New York Jets, who are still in limbo with free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets). The Jets could wait until McCown is released to pursue him, but that may not be for another few weeks.

Fantasy Tip: There are slim pickings for whoever needs a quarterback right now. Fitzpatrick is still the Jets' best option, but re-signing him hasn't looked promising. If McCown is acquired by the Jets, he won't be starting material in the fantasy realm.

Browns | Josh McCown willing to mentor

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 06:22:02 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown said he wants to start all 16 games next season, but he's willing to mentor a young quarterback as well. "My expectation is to come into work and be available and be ready to do whatever's asked of me," McCown said. "If that's to bring along a draft pick and to start until that guy's ready, then I'm willing to do that. If that's to go the full 16, I'm excited about doing that. If that's to help that guy as he takes over, whatever my role, whatever's asked of me, I'm just here to win football games," McCown said. "Whatever my role is, I'm all in. I just want to help."

Fantasy Tip: The Browns are likely to take a quarterback early in the 2016 NFL Draft, but McCown could open the season as the starter. He showed flashes of productivity last season, but he's likely limited to being the second QB in two-QB leagues.

Browns | Cleveland likely to draft quarterback?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 15:28:03 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is the starting quarterback for the Browns as of now. QB Johnny Manziel will be on his way out next month, too, which causes Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer to believe the Browns will take a quarterback with their No. 2 overall pick, namely California QB Jared Goff or North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz.

Fantasy Tip: No one's finger presses harder on the pulse of the Browns than Cabot's. McCown is a supbar veteran quarterback whose NFL career may be done in the near future, and Manziel has proven time and again that he's not the answer for the future. If Cleveland doesn't sign a bona fide free-agent quarterback, it's hard to imagine the Browns using their No. 2 pick on another position.

Browns | Josh McCown could be cleared soon

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 12:44:33 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (collarbone) said his recover from a broken collarbone is going well. His recovery is on schedule and he hopes to be cleared soon to work out.

Fantasy Tip: Depending on what happens with Johnny Manziel, in free agency and in the draft, McCown could very well be the starting quarterback for the Browns in 2016. He played well last season when he was healthy, but he's not a reliable starting fantasy quarterback even if he does start.

Browns | Josh McCown to IR

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 07:36:24 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: The team hasn't named a starting quarterback, but Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) and Johnny Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) aren't very good FantasyScore options against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Browns | Josh McCown won't need surgery

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 12:00:36 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) will not need surgery on his broken collarbone. Additionally, head coach Mike Pettine said he's not ready to name the Browns' starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: One would assume Austin Davis would take over the starting reins since he came in for McCown in Week 12. Perhaps the Browns will give Johnny Manziel or Terrelle Pryor a chance, so stay tuned. Although, again, no Cleveland quarterback should be started versus the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

Browns | Josh McCown out for the season

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:55:13 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) is out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken collarbone against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Austin Davis should be under center as long as he is healthy, with Johnny Manziel backing him up. Terrelle Pryor was recently signed and could also play quarterback, but the Brown's quarterback position should be avoided for now, especially next week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Browns | Josh McCown feared to have break

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 09:24:10 -0800

Updating earlier reports, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) possibly has a broken collarbone, which would likely end his season.

Fantasy Tip: Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would be in line to start against the Cincinnati Bengals if McCown is forced to the sidelines in Week 13. He would not make a confident play on FantasyScore.

Browns | Josh McCown going for more tests

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 08:58:39 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) was in a sling after the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Nov. 30, and he will have more tests Tuesday, Dec. 1, after undergoing X-rays after the game. Head coach Mike Pettine didn't say whether QBs Austin Davis or Johnny Manziel would start next week if McCown can't play. Manziel did not play against the Ravens after McCown was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Either way you slice it, none of the Cleveland quarterbacks are attractive against the Cincinnati Bengals and their stout defense in Week 13, and you might want to downgrade the rest of Cleveland's offensive weapons depending on who winds up getting the start.

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 08:04:10 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (clavicle) is in a lot of pain and is having X-rays done on his collarbone Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would be in line to start against the Cincinnati Bengals if McCown is forced to the sidelines in Week 13. Stay tuned for updates.

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 21:50:19 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (collarbone) is dealing with a collarbone injury suffered in the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: If McCown is forced to miss time, leaving head coach Mike Pettine to have to decide between QBs Austin Davis and Johnny Manziel.

Browns | Josh McCown checks out of game

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 20:08:29 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder) left the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth quarter due to an apparent shoulder injury. QB Austin Davis checked in with QB Johnny Manziel dressed as the third-string quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: McCown was injured a drive or two ago on a hard him after a pass, but tried to gut it out and finish. It's unlikely he will be able to return.

Browns | Josh McCown probable

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 12:53:24 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) is listed as probable for Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has a great matchup against the Baltimore Ravens this week in his return as starter. He's not the most reliable option, but he's relatively cheap and worth considering on FantasyScore.

Browns | Josh McCown takes part in practice

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 14:20:00 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is on track to be the starting quarterback against the Baltimore Ravens this week. McCown has played well at times this season and could be a cheap option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Browns | Josh McCown has full practice

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 14:11:43 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: McCown will return as starter this week and has a great matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He's not the most reliable starting fantasy quarterback, but he's a good value play on FantasyScore at $4,500 (9.0% of cap).

Browns | Duke Johnson could produce more

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 13:22:29 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson may be in line for more production with QB Josh McCown returning as starter. In the six games in which McCown started and Johnson caught a pass, Johnson averaged 5.5 catches and 74.1 total yards and scored twice.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) performed substantially better with McCown than when Johnny Manziel was starting. He is a good flyer this week against the Baltimore Ravens, especially in PPR leagues.

Browns | Johnny Manziel benched

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 13:02:11 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will serve as the Browns' No. 3 quarterback in Week 12. QB Josh McCown will start.

Fantasy Tip: A video recently surfaced showing Manziel partying, which very well may have played a role in Manziel's demotion. McCown ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was playing well before being sidelined by injuries this season. He may be rusty, but he's worth consideration on FantasyScore against a vulnerable Baltimore Ravens defense.

Browns | Josh McCown cleared

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 09:18:57 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) has been cleared and would be ready to start in Week 12 if they decided to go that route, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would have a midrange matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. His numbers are better than Johnny Manziel's, but they are devoid of the wow factor you can find elsewhere on FantasyScore.

Browns | Cleveland not ready to name QB

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 15:20:13 -0800

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said he is not ready to say if QB Johnny Manziel or QB Josh McCown will be the starting quarterback. Pettine said the coaching staff will discuss the decision during the bye week.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel played well in the team's Week 10 game and could keep the job if the team wants to see if he can be their long-term quarterback. Owners will have to check practice next week to see which quarterback works with the starters.

Browns | Johnny Manziel to start against PIT

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 09:14:18 -0800

Confirming a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) will be the starting quarterback for Week 10's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. QB Austin Davis will serve as the backup, with QB Josh McCown (ribs) inactive.

Fantasy Tip: Although Pittsburgh's pass defense has been mediocre at best this year, Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore and all other fantasy formats due to his inconsistency.

Browns | Johnny Manziel expected to start

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:35:32 -0800

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is expected to start over QB Josh McCown (ribs) in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source with knowledge of the team's thinking. Head coach Mike Pettine was hesitant to name his starter this weekend. Manziel has been up and down in his two starts this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have been around middle of the pack in terms of defending quarterbacks for fantasy purposes. Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been far too inconsistent in his starts to be relied on at FantasyScore or any other fantasy format for that matter.

Browns | Cleveland not naming starting QB

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 10:54:57 -0800

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said he won't name a starter between QBs Josh McCown (ribs) and Johnny Manziel for Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in order to maintain a competitive advantage. Pettine already knows who he plans on starting Sunday, Nov. 15.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is also questionable with an injury, and Johnny Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) could make his second straight start if McCown can't suit up. This is a situation to ignore entirely against a Steelers defense that has been adequate against opposing quarterbacks this year.

Browns | Josh McCown questionable this week

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 10:07:05 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) practiced Friday, Nov. 13, but is questionable for Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns may wait to decide on their quarterback until Sunday, Nov. 15, as head coach Mike Pettine wouldn't name a starter Friday.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) sounds like a game-time decision this weekend. Johnny Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) would start if McCown can't go, but he isn't attractive in any fantasy league. Avoid the Cleveland QB situation in Week 10.

Browns | Josh McCown practicing Friday

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 09:11:50 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) is taking part in practice Friday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) was limited or full in practice, and his status is still unknown for Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's a chance he's a game-time decision. After missing last week, daily gamers shouldn't want anything to do with him this weekend.

Browns | Josh McCown limited again

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 09:33:30 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) will be limited in practice a second straight day Thursday, Nov. 12, according to head coach Mike Pettine. The Browns have yet to make a decision on who will start at quarterback in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is expected to play if he's healthy enough, but he could be a game-time decision, and using a banged up McCown on the road against the Steelers isn't smart on FantasyScore. Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is too inconsistent to rely on in daily games if he receives a second straight start.

Browns | Josh McCown optimistic about Week 10

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 22:48:36 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) said Wednesday, Nov. 11, that he is optimistic he'll be ready to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10. "I would say I'm more optimistic (about my chances to play Sunday than I was about last Thursday) just because it's a normal week, so I think that gives us a better chance to evaluate it," McCown said.

Fantasy Tip: If McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) plays, he could be a strong play in FantasyScore against the Pittsburgh Steelers and their 26th-ranked pass defense.

Browns | Josh McCown limited Wednesday

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:44:28 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) faces a Pittsburgh Steelers defense in the midrange at defending the position the last five weeks. McCown is a matchup play when healthy, and he doesn't present a ton of upside on FantasyScore this week.

Browns | Johnny Manziel could start again

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 12:46:30 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is planning to start his second straight game in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. QB Josh McCown (ribs) is considered day-to-day with a rib injury and may sit out another week.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns aren't as effective on offense with Manziel, so expectations for guys like Travis Benjamin should be lowered. Manziel himself would be a risky start as he has played sporadically in his young career.

Browns | Josh McCown starting if healthy

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 09:03:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) will start over QB Johnny Manziel in Week 10 if he is healthy enough to play, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) would have more upside against the Pittsburgh Steelers than Johnny Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap). The Steelers are in the midrange against the QB position the last five weeks.

Browns | Cleveland QB unannounced

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 07:29:23 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel or QB Josh McCown (ribs, shoulder) could start in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "No, I can't (say Manziel will play the next game),'' Pettine said. "When we get in and get back from this time off, we'll assess what pool of players are available and go ahead and make those decisions from there. This will be a good time to step away and reassess where we are moving forward.''

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a lot more affective than Manziel moving the ball, but neither are real good starts on FantasyScore right now.

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 16:52:10 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) is expected to be available for the Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has been ruled out for the Week 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if McCown will receive the start in that game if Johnny Manziel plays well against the Bengals. Owners will need to monitor the situation during practice next week to see who the starting quarterback will be.

Browns | Three Browns won't play Thursday

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 15:07:37 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder, ribs), WR Brian Hartline (concussion) and WR Andrew Hawkins (concussion) have been ruled out for Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Nov. 5. All three players missed practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Johnny Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will start on a short week against an undefeated squad on the road. That doesn't sound like a recipe for success for Cleveland's offensive skill players. Travis Benjamin ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should probably be the only Browns player you consider in a flex spot on FantasyScore because of his chemistry with Manziel this year.

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 05:28:21 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will start in place of QB Josh McCown (shoulder, ribs) Thursday, Nov. 5, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) faces a midrange defense the last three weeks against QBs, but he's too erratic to start on FantasyScore.

Browns | Josh McCown misses practice again

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 19:08:44 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder, ribs) is dealing with a right shoulder and rib injuries, and he missed practice for a second straight day Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: McCown ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has not yet been ruled out for Week 9, but with a Thursday game it's hard to envision him being effective even if he does play against the Cincinnati Bengals. Avoid him in FantasyScore. If he is ruled out, Johnny Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would start and even less attractive from a fantasy perspective.

Browns | Josh McCown may miss some time

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 12:50:40 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) said it will take him longer than a few days or weeks for his ribs to heal. Neither McCown nor head coach Mike Pettine are saying whether or not McCown's ribs are broken, but McCown is sore and having trouble breathing and sleeping. He has not been ruled out, but his status for Week 9 isn't looking good.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Johnny Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will be starting for at least one week. The Browns have a different offense with Manziel under center. He has been inconsistent throughout his career, but he is able to run the ball and is cheaply priced on FantasyScore. Invest at your own risk.

Browns | Josh McCown sounding doubtful

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 11:36:47 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (ribs) did not sound optimistic about being able to play in Week 9 with a rib injury. QB Johnny Manziel would start if McCown is unable to go.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns aren't the same offense with Manziel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) under center, but Manziel is a more versatile quarterback with his running ability. Expectations for Cleveland receivers should be lowered somewhat, though.

Browns | Three Browns miss practice

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 16:26:59 -0800

Cleveland Browns WRs Brian Hartline (concussion) and Andrew Hawkins (concussion) and QB Josh McCown (shoulder, ribs) did not participate in practice Monday, Nov. 2. However, the Browns didn't actually practice Monday, so the reports are an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns face the Cincinnati Bengals and a tough defense on a short week this Thursday, so none of this trio should be considered very safe on FantasyScore, especially the receivers, who'll need clearance quickly in order to play.
