It is not likely the San Francisco 49ers will use the franchise tag on K Phil Dawson. Dawson was tagged twice before by the Cleveland Browns in 2011 and 2012, and under NFL rules a player tagged for a third time is entitled to a quarterback franchise tender. That could send his salary upwards of $16 million.

San Francisco 49ers PK Phil Dawson made all three of his field goal attempts in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, against the Kansas City Chiefs, including a pair of successful makes from 55 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Dawson has been a good kicker for a number of years, but playing in Cleveland for his entire career held down his fantasy appeal. Playing on a contender with a strong offense, Dawson will be a must-start fantasy option.
