Dodgers | Josh Beckett not sharp in return

Thu, 10 Apr 2014 08:56:01 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett wasn't sharp at all in his first start of the season against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, April 9, and he didn't miss many bats. He finished by allowing five runs (four earned) and five hits on 85 pitches. The Tigers also stole three bases off of him.

Fantasy Tip: It was Beckett's first start against a very tough lineup, so we'll give him a pass. But this is a reminder that Beckett isn't the pitcher that he once once, and he pitches to contact more often. He can still be useful, but only in the right matchups.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly won't confirm it yet, but he acknowledged that SP Josh Beckett (thumb) looks to be on track to start Wednesday, April 9, for his season debut.

Fantasy Tip: Beckett will enter the rotation with Clayton Kershaw (back) still out. Depending on matchups, Beckett isn't a bad option to consider in cavernous mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett could return sooner

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 18:59:45 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday, April 1, that SP Josh Beckett (thumb) could be activated from the 15-day disabled list soon, even though he is not built up for a 100-pitch start. "If we need him, it would be a shorter outing," Beckett said.

Fantasy Tip: If Beckett is activated earlier than expected, fantasy owners should be patient and keep him reserved until he builds up his stamina a bit.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw sidelined several more weeks

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 15:01:36 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) will be put on a rehab program that includes a submaximal throwing program for the next two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Kershaw's back injury has turned out to be much more significant than he or the team let on initially. He'll be re-evaluated in two to three weeks, which means he probably won't be able to rejoin the rotation for another month at the earliest. Paul Maholm will continue to lock down a rotation spot until Josh Beckett (thumb) is ready to return in mid-April.
