MLB | Mark Buehrle not retiring

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:42:10 -0800

Free-agent SP Mark Buehrle (Blue Jays) isn't planning to sign this offseason but isn't officially retiring. Buehrle will leave the door open if he considers a comeback down the road.

Fantasy Tip: Buehrle has had a fine career and has been one of the most underappreciated fantasy assets for starting pitchers. He wouldn't command much attention, though, if he decided to take one more run at it.

Cardinals | Mark Buehrle could be headed to STL

Sat, 14 Nov 2015 11:54:36 -0800

If free-agent SP Mark Buehrle (Blue Jays) decides not to retire during the offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals are likely to be his landing spot for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: It is unknown how much interest St. Louis has in the 36-year-old left-hander but he is originally from St. Charles, Mo., and grew up as a fan of the Cards. He went 15-8 with a 3.81 ERA in 32 regular-season starts for Toronto in 2015 but did not pitch during the playoffs.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle could return in 2016

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 17:02:26 -0700

Contrary to a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle said he has not yet decided whether to retire at the end of the year. He will reportedly listen to guaranteed contract offers during the offseason but is not interested in signing a minor league deal with an invitation to major league camp.

Fantasy Tip: Buehrle went 15-8 with a 3.81 ERA during the regular season and tied Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel for the American League lead in complete games with four. He is not on Toronto's active postseason roster and had been battling a sore shoulder for much of the season but said he could pitch now if necessary.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle set to retire

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 07:36:47 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle will try to pitch two innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, Oct. 4, and then retire, according to sources. He is not expected to make the postseason roster.

Fantasy Tip: Two innings would give Buehrle ($6,900, 13.2% of cap) his 15th consecutive 200-inning season, which is an incredible mark. Don't rule him off the playoff roster just yet until it is official, either. Still, he is an unadvised fantasy option Sunday, though. For his career, Buehrle stands with 214 wins and a 3.81 ERA.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle could start Sunday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 20:24:35 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle could start Sunday, Oct. 4, on one day's rest, manager John Gibbons said. SP Drew Hutchison will likely start if Buehrle doesn't.

Fantasy Tip: It is best to avoid Buehrle ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) at FantasyScore if he does start since he is unlikely to pitch deep into the game on such short rest. Hutchison ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) wouldn't be much better considering his struggles on the road this season.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle wins 15th game

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 19:28:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle (15-7) allowed four runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, Oct. 2, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Buehrle ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is just two innings shy of reaching 200 for the 16th consecutive season, so he could accomplish the feat by throwing a pair of frames during the team's regular-season finale Sunday, Oct. 4.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle struggles in latest start

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 04:53:55 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle allowed four runs and five hits in six innings in a no-decision Sunday, Sept. 27, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He has reached at least 200 innings in 14 straight seasons, and is at 191 1/3 with at least one start remaining.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Buehrle ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) will see his 200 streak come to an end, but he has been a dependable source of innings this season. With a 3.76 ERA and that lineup protecting him, Buehrle is a decent FantasyScore starter.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle receives injection

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 13:47:07 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle (shoulder) had a cortisone shot in his left shoulder back in Toronto Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to manager John Gibbons. Buehrle is on track to pitch against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Sept. 15, however.

Fantasy Tip: The Blue Jays are skipping Buehrle ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) this weekend. It may actually work out better for his usage on FantasyScore, as the Braves are one of the worst hitting teams in all of baseball. If Buehrle makes the start Tuesday, he'll be an under-the-radar value pick that could really help you beat your competition that day.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle being skipped

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 13:30:30 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle will have his start skipped this weekend to accommodate the return of SP Marcus Stroman (knee), according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman is a candidate to pick up off the waiver wire in most fantasy formats to close out the year. It's unclear if Toronto will move to a six-man rotation with Stroman returning. Either way, Buehrle is dealing with nagging injuries down the stretch and might be rested more as the Blue Jays prepare for a postseason berth.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle doesn't last long

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 22:51:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle allowed five earned runs, nine hits and no walks with no strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings in a loss Monday, Sept. 7, against the Boston Red Sox. It was Buehrle's shortest outing of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Buehrle ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is only worth using in FantasyScore when he is running hot, but when he is struggling he is terrible, especially since he is not a strikeouts pitcher. His only value is in the wins column.
