Oakland Athletics P Shawn Chacon's grievance against the Houston Astros was denied Tuesday, Aug. 17, according to The Associated Press. The players association filed the grievance after his contract was terminated two years ago, saying the decision was without just cause. Chacon assaulted general manager Ed Wade in June of 2008.

ESPN.com reports Oakland Athletics SP Shawn Chacon was arrested at a Colorado bowling alley on charges related to unpaid gambling markers in Nevada. He faces a felony charge for three bad checks written for $50,000.

The Associated Press reports Michael Weiner, the general counsel of the MLB Players Association, said the union plans on filing a grievance Tuesday, July 1, regarding the Houston Astros release of P Shawn Chacon. The union will claim the Astros improperly terminated Chacon's deal and that he is owed the remaining $938,607 of his $2 million salary this year.

Jose De Jesus Ortiz, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane indicated that if P Shawn Chacon pitches again, he does not want it to be for the Astros. "We can't have anarchy," McLane said. "You can't have rebellion. If he disagreed with what Cecil wanted him to do, he should have had the courage to sit down and talk to him."
