No candidates received the required 75 percent of the vote in order to be elected into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame Wednesday, Jan. 9. Many of the first-time candidates such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and others have been linked to performance-enhancing drugs.

Astros | Close to hiring Roger Clemens

Former SP Roger Clemens met with Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow about taking on an active role with the Astros. The Astros plan to open their 2013 schedule to Clemens, allowing him to participate as much as he wants during spring training and the regular season.

Independent League | Roger Clemens will not pitch in Mexican League

Randy Hendricks, the agent for former MLB SP Roger Clemens, dismissed the idea that his client would pitch in the Mexican League. He added that Clemens only pitched for the independent Sugarland Skeeters last season because it was 20 minutes from home and he wanted to play with his son, Koby.

Independent League SP Roger Clemens said he is currently retired, but he won't eliminate the possibility of coming back to pitch for the Houston Astros next year. "I might be going again here in February or something like that," Clemens said. "I'll be throwing. I don't think it's going to be competitive, but you guys know with me, I'm never going to shut the door on anything. Who knows what might happen."

Astros | Won't let Roger Clemens face contender

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said the possibility is still open that the team may sign Independent League SP Roger Clemens, but Crane said Clemens will not face the Pittsburgh Pirates or St. Louis Cardinals, who are the two teams remaining on Houston's home schedule. Clemens said the only way he would return to the majors this season is if he gets a chance to pitch against a team in playoff contention. "We're just going to sit tight," Crane said. "We'll wait and see if he calls us, but we might call him, who knows?"

Updating a previous report, although Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Monday, Sept. 10, that the team has no interest in adding SP Roger Clemens to pitch sometime this season, owner Jim Crane said there was a possibility the 50-year-old could pitch for the team this year.

Free-agent SP Roger Clemens (Yankees) said he does not expect to join the Houston Astros this season but has not decided what to do next season. "Well, not this year," Clemens said. "But we'll see what happens after that. I'm not going to rule anything out. I don't know what Koby is going to do, where he ends up. I hope to end up probably in February with the Astros, put on a uniform and help those kids. That's probably next."

Free-agent SP Roger Clemens (Yankees) made his second start Friday, Sept. 7, for Sugar Land of the independent Atlantic League. He threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout. His fastball was clocked at as high as 88 mph.

Updating a previous item, Independent League SP Roger Clemens said he does not think a return to the major leagues is in the cards for him. "That's fantastic, but I don't think I'm close to doing that," Clemens said. "If my body felt better and my shoulder felt better, and I rebounded quicker, it would be something I would think about doing, even go to spring training and do it for fun." Clemens isn't sure if he will even pitch in another game at any level following his second outing with the Sugar Land Skeeters Friday, Sept. 7.
