Mets | Bartolo Colon signs with the Mets

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 13:29:58 -0800

Free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Mets) re-signed a one-year, $7.25 million contract with the New York Mets, pending a physical, Wednesday, Dec. 16, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Entering his age-43 season, Colon's fantasy value is likely tied to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats because his 4.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 marks from 2015 hardly move the fantasy needle. Still, he has won 29 games over the past two seasons, so if he cracks the rotation, he is a potential streaming option or FantasyScore start in favorable matchups.

MLB | Multiple teams interested in Bartolo Colon

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 17:48:46 -0800

The New York Mets do not appear to be the only team bidding for the services of free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Mets), according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Colon went 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA in 33 games (31 starts) in 2015 but he isn't guaranteed of cracking the rotation if he decides to return to New York. The soon-to-be 43-year-old right-hander's 1.23 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 are cause for concern for fantasy owners, although his durability and 29 victories over the last two seasons may make him worth a late-round flier in single-universe and deep mixed leagues, provided that he is not pitching out of the bullpen.

Mets | Bartolo Colon a priority for the Mets?

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:39:58 -0800

Free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Mets) is still of interest to the New York Mets, and the team has recently stepped up their efforts to re-sign Colon, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Colon will be entering his age-43 season in 2016, so expectations have to be kept in check, and his 4.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 leave a lot to be desired in the majority of seasonal leagues. Still, the veteran has has won 29 games over the past two seasons, and he is a viable streaming option or FantasyScore start in favorable matchups.

Mets | Bartolo Colon could return in relief

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 11:50:16 -0800

The New York Mets aren't ruling out re-signing impending free-agent SP Bartolo Colon for the 2016 season if he's interested in moving to a relief role. The Mets are fully stocked with young pitchers for the starting rotation. Colon would also need to accept far less than the $11 million he earned in 2015. He's likely to find a starting job elsewhere if he wants it.

Fantasy Tip: If Colon stays with the Mets in a relief role, he'll have virtually zero fantasy relevance. If he leaves and enters the rotation of another team, he'll strictly be a matchup play in much deeper leagues.

Mets | Steven Matz pegged for Game 4

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 07:56:08 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (back) will pitch Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, if healthy. SP Bartolo Colon will start the game, if Matz is unable.

Fantasy Tip: Matz received an injection for his sore back Saturday, Oct. 3, and he has ample time to recover before the game Tuesday, Oct. 13. However, the rookie has just 35 2/3 innings as a pro, and he has been limited to just four starts since July while battling injuries. Continue to check back for updates.

Mets | Steven Matz to pitch out of 'pen

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 10:52:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (back) could pitch around five innings Saturday, Oct. 3, or Sunday, Oct. 4, out of the bullpen against the Washington Nationals after dealing with upper back soreness. The Mets will watch him carefully and are wary of naming him to the Division Series rotation. If Matz cannot start in the postseason, SP Bartolo Colon will take his spot.

Fantasy Tip: You won't be able to use Matz ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) on FantasyScore to close out the regular season now. He'll be pretty darn risky in daily leagues in the postseason in the division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, too, if he makes the rotation.

Mets | Bartolo Colon wants to return

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 12:15:08 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon said that he will try to return again next year if the team wants him back.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) has had plenty of success in his career, but as he ages, it's been harder and harder to rely on him as a fantasy contributor. He's striking out only 6.3 hitters per nine innings and is strictly a matchup play at a cheap cost on FantasyScore.

Mets | Bartolo Colon hurls quality start

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 19:53:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, Sept. 23, with one walk and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) was hoping to win 15 games for the third consecutive season in his 40s but will have to wait until his next start Wednesday, Sept. 30, against the Philadelphia Phillies, to receive that opportunity.

Mets | Bartolo Colon suffers loss Wednesday

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 17:56:08 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (14-12) allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Miami Marlins Wednesday, Sept. 16, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Before his outing Wednesday, Colon ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) had allowed two runs or fewer in his previous five appearances, four of which were starts. He will make his next start Wednesday, Sept. 23, against the Atlanta Braves.

Mets | Bartolo Colon's shutout streak ends

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 23:45:26 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon saw his shutout streak come to an end at 31 innings Thursday, Sept. 10, but he won his fourth straight start as the Mets prevailed 7-2 over the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Colon ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been an integral reason why the Mets have risen to the top of the National League East. He should be started in FantasyScore as long as he continues his hot production.
