Mets | Bartolo Colon struggles Wednesday

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:15:05 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (8-5) allowed six runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, July 20, with two walks and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Colon had arguably his worst start of the season Wednesday and has allowed six earned runs in two of his last three outings. He will attempt to right the ship in his next start versus the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, July 26.

Mets | NYM set rotation for second half

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 19:32:48 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon will open the second half Friday, July 15, against the Philadelphia Phillies, followed by SP Logan Verrett Saturday, July 16, and SP Jacob deGrom Sunday, July 17. SP Steven Matz will pitch Monday, July 18, against the Chicago Cubs while SP Noah Syndergaard works Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Matz probably has the worst assignment of all for fantasy owners as he works on the road against All-Star Jake Arrieta and the Cubs. Colon, Verrett and deGrom face much better circumstances facing Philadelphia.

Mets | Bartolo Colon nursing sore leg

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 22:08:50 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (leg) said Saturday, July 2, that his left leg has been sore since a start against the Pittsburgh Pirates June 16. However, the injury is not believed to be an issue and he is working through it.

Fantasy Tip: While Colon might be banged up, he still has a 1.96 ERA over his past eight outings. He continues to pitch at a high rate despite being 43 years old. He is a must-start across the board in all fantasy leagues and DFS play.

Mets | Bartolo Colon pitches well in loss

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:06:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed one run on six hits in seven innings against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 26, but suffered his fourth loss of the season. He struck out two batters and walked one.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts and has a solid 2.86 ERA this season. He is scheduled to face the Chicago Cubs in his next start, which makes him a risky option in some fantasy leagues.

Mets | Bartolo Colon set to start Sunday

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 14:02:04 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) has been confirmed as the team's starting pitcher for Sunday, June 26, against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Colon left the team briefly to attend his son's graduation in New Jersey, but his status was really never in doubt after completing a bullpen session on Thursday. He makes for a solid, low-cost option in DFS and should be a respectable start in regular leagues as well.

Mets | Bartolo Colon expected to start Sunday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:01:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) will throw a bullpen session to test his bruised right thumb Thursday, June 23, and is still expected to start against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, June 26, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is having a nice season with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP, but his 56 strikeouts through 81 innings limit his upside. He's a viable own in deep mixed leagues, and this is a nice matchup to start him in all fantasy formats. Just confirm he's over his thumb injury before locking him into lineups.

Mets | Bartolo Colon suffers thumb injury

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 19:30:04 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) was lifted from his start Tuesday, June 21, against the Kansas City Royals after just four pitches after suffering a bruised thumb on a comebacker in the first inning. Manager Terry Collins said Colon's thumb swelled pretty badly, and he will be re-evaluated Wednesday, June 22. It's uncertain if he'll need a stint on the 15-day disabled list, but the team scratched SP Logan Verrett from his start at Class AAA just in case.

Fantasy Tip: Colon should be reserved in all fantasy leagues, as this certainly sounds like a DL move. However, wait until it is made official, especially if you're in a weekly league, as you have plenty of time to make a decision. Verrett has pitched well when filling in, and he is the logical choice to move into the rotation if Colon is forced to the shelf.

Mets | Bartolo Colon leaves start early

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 16:45:06 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon (thumb) left his start early Tuesday, June 21, because of a right thumb contusion. X-rays on his thumb came back negative.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should look for a possible timetable in the next day or two. Colon has pitched well so far this season and should be a starting option in most mixed leagues when he is healthy.

Mets | Rotation flip for the Mets vs. Royals

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 11:17:08 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon will start against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, June 21, and SP Noah Syndergaard will face the Royals Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: There is limited fantasy impact here, but it does set up Colon to be a two-start pitcher this week instead of Syndergaard. You're rolling with Syndergaard regardless, but it does make Colon a little more valuable this week. The Royals have scored the eighth-fewest runs in the league this season, so it is a solid matchup for both.

Rangers | Cole Hamels nets 2,000th strikeout

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:32:41 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels netted his 2,000th career strikeout Sunday, June 12. Only six other pitchers active (Bartolo Colon, CC Sabathia, Felix Hernandez, John Lackey, Jake Peavy, Justin Verlander) have 2,000 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This is a big honor for Hamels, whose 5-1 record and 78 strikeouts make him a popular fantasy option in daily, AL and mixed formats.
