Dodgers | Trayce Thompson not hitting Sunday

Sun, 29 May 2016 13:52:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Trayce Thompson (back) is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 29, against the New York Mets. OF Yasiel Puig is in right field and will hit fifth against Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: It seems like Thompson and Puig are going back and forth in right field and platooning a bit, but Puig had four of the seven starts this week. If Thompson and Puig continue this pure platoon, neither player is a solid fantasy start in weekly or annual leagues. However, DFS players can benefit from this situation. Thompson may come off the bench for pinch-hit duties Sunday night, but he should still be seated.

Mets | Bartolo Colon pitches well

Mon, 23 May 2016 22:06:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed one run on five hits in seven innings against the Washington Nationals Monday, May 23, to earn his fourth win of the season. He struck out two batters and walked two during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has pitched well this season and has allowed more than three runs in only one of his 10 starts. He is scheduled to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start and should be a solid starting option in most leagues.

Mets | Bartolo Colon nearly untouchable

Mon, 02 May 2016 22:36:31 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon scattered seven hits with no walks over eight scoreless innings while posting seven strikeouts Monday, May 2, against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Colon lowered his ERA to 2.56 while sporting an impressive 1.14 WHIP with 28 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings. He continues to pitch at a very high level despite being 42 years of age, and he remains a must-start in most fantasy formats and DFS play.

Reds | Brandon Phillips out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:09:55 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the New York Mets. 2B Ivan De Jesus Jr. will hit seventh against Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips may miss a bit of time but the X-rays were negative. If you are in daily leagues keep an eye out for his status and avoid him accordingly. De Jesus is 2-for-9 in the past week and carries little, if any, fantasy value.

Mets | Bartolo Colon posts quality start

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 23:54:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon allowed three earned runs, four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision and quality start Wednesday, April 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has quality starts in two of his past three outings. It just so happens that each of those games are against the lowly Phillies, so don't get terribly excited and overvalue his fantasy appeal.

Mets | Bartolo Colon to face Philadelphia

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:18:50 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon will make the start Wednesday, April 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He is 8-5 with a 3.43 ERA in his career against the Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is a sharp fantasy option in seasonal leagues, and a must-start in DFS play, as the Mets have won 20 of their past 26 games at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Mets | Jacob deGrom on track for Friday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 11:42:39 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom, whose wife is expecting their child this week, remains on track to make his season debut against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, April 8. The couple's first child had been due on Tuesday, April 5. Manager Terry Collins said SP Bartolo Colon "most likely" would fill in and start on short notice if deGrom is called away.

Fantasy Tip: deGrom is a low-end fantasy ace after his breakout 2015 season, and he faces a strong matchup against the rebuilding Phils Friday. If he's starting, deGrom should be in all fantasy lineups tomorrow.

Mets | Bartolo Colon shuts out Jays

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 14:31:43 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon tossed six shutout innings in a Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, March 23, giving up just three hits.

Fantasy Tip: It's amazing to think that Colon continues to get it done at 43 years old. His stellar control and command are the culprits for his longevity, but few swinging strikes mean he has little room for error for fantasy owners. Colon will start the year in the rotation but is expected to be forced to the bullpen later on when Zack Wheeler (elbow) is ready. Colon is mainly an NL-only commodity.

Mets | Bartolo Colon signs with the Mets

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 13:29:58 -0800

Free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Mets) re-signed a one-year, $7.25 million contract with the New York Mets, pending a physical, Wednesday, Dec. 16, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Entering his age-43 season, Colon's fantasy value is likely tied to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats because his 4.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 marks from 2015 hardly move the fantasy needle. Still, he has won 29 games over the past two seasons, so if he cracks the rotation, he is a potential streaming option or FantasyScore start in favorable matchups.

MLB | Multiple teams interested in Bartolo Colon

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 17:48:46 -0800

The New York Mets do not appear to be the only team bidding for the services of free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Mets), according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Colon went 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA in 33 games (31 starts) in 2015 but he isn't guaranteed of cracking the rotation if he decides to return to New York. The soon-to-be 43-year-old right-hander's 1.23 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 are cause for concern for fantasy owners, although his durability and 29 victories over the last two seasons may make him worth a late-round flier in single-universe and deep mixed leagues, provided that he is not pitching out of the bullpen.
