|Pirates | Ryan Vogelsong placed on DL|
Tue, 24 May 2016 11:30:48 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong was hit in the face by a pitch during his spot start against the Colorado Rockies Monday. His fantasy value was already extremely limited serving mainly as a long relief guy out of the bullpen. He's likely to return to that role when he's recovered.

|Pirates | Ryan Vogelsong sustained injury to eye|
Mon, 23 May 2016 14:27:21 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's an unfortunate break for the 38-year-old, who was looking solid in his second start of the season before having to leave the contest after being drilled by a pitch while up at bat. It remains to be seen how long he'll be out, but regardless, Vogelsong isn't someone to monitor, as he was simply getting a spot start here.

|Pirates | Ryan Vogelsong hit in head|
Mon, 23 May 2016 10:24:31 -0700
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Ryan Vogelsong (head) was removed from his start early after taking a ball to the head while batting in the bottom of the second inning against the Colorado Rockies Monday, May 23. He was carted off the field.
Fantasy Tip: It didn't sound or look good. Vogelsong was making a spot start in a makeup game Monday, so his fantasy value is minimal and should remain on the waiver wire. He'll likely undergo concussion testing. Stay tuned for more information on his status moving forward. If he lands on the DL, it could be the opportunity Pittsburgh was looking for to call up prospects Tyler Glasnow or Jameson Taillon. Both youngsters should already be stashed in most leagues.

|Pirates | Francisco Liriano to miss start|
Tue, 12 Apr 2016 15:08:59 -0700
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Ryan Vogelsong will start Wednesday, April 13, versus the Detroit Tigers. He's filling in for SP Francisco Liriano (hamstring), who has right hamstring discomfort and is being considered day-to-day.
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong will be making his first start as a Pirate in his second tenure with the club, but he's someone that should be avoided in just about all fantasy formats. Aside from his inconsistency, the 38-year-old will have an ultra-tough assignment, as Detroit currently sports one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. As for Liriano, it looks like he'll be OK for his next start.

|Pirates | Juan Nicasio cracks rotation|
Wed, 30 Mar 2016 13:23:02 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Nicasio had a sterling spring with 24 strikeouts through 15 scoreless innings, and he has begun to climb up draft boards. However, the 29-year-old righty has 439 1/3 innings in the league without ever being a strong fantasy option. Don't overvalue him, but at the same time, don't shy away from using a late-round pick in mixed leagues on Nicasio. Vogelsong is nothing more than a low-end option in NL-only formats.

|Pirates | Jeff Locke makes rotation|
Tue, 29 Mar 2016 15:31:22 -0700
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke will be in the starting rotation to begin the year. SPs Ryan Vogelsong and Juan Nicasio are still battling for the fifth and final spot. Locke has been experimenting with a new windup delivery this spring.
Fantasy Tip: Locke saw some control gains last year associated with more mechanical changes, but the bottom line is he doesn't generate enough swings and misses to be viable outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Nicasio has been a big spring surprise with heavy strikeout numbers and could become the Bucs' latest reclamation project if he wins the job. Take a flier on him in deeper leagues.

|Pirates | Ryan Vogelsong signs with Pittsburgh|
Fri, 18 Dec 2015 13:09:20 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong owns a 4.63 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP and a 6.9 K/9 over the past three seasons, and he was bumped from the starting rotation in 2015. Entering his age-38 season, there isn't a lot to like about the veteran in fantasy circles. At best, he is a spot starter for Pittsburgh who could land in the right matchup to roll the dice on him as a streamer or FantasyScore flier.

|Giants | Tim Hudson nearing the end|
Wed, 09 Sep 2015 09:06:47 -0700
San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson said that he plans to retire at the end of this season after he threw six innings in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, Sept. 8. "I feel like it's the right thing to do, the right time for my family," Hudson said of retirement. "I played this game a lot longer than I thought I would and had a long career. Nights like tonight are very gratifying to go out there in this stage in my career to give my team a chance to win." After his impressive start, manager Bruce Bochy said Hudson will rejoin the rotation and replace SP Ryan Vogelsong, who worked in relief Monday, Sept. 7.
Fantasy Tip: The grizzled veteran put on quite the performance last night against the D-backs, even adding a home run. Despite a return to the rotation, Hudson ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) shouldn't be very attractive to owners in fantasy leagues with the season winding down. His performance last night is probably the best we'll see out of him for the rest of his final season.

|Giants | Ryan Vogelsong struggles again|
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 01:15:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) pitched Sunday at PNC Park, where he went 6-13 with a 6.06 ERA, so this outing may have been predictable. Vogelsong has been up and down this season, but entering this game he had been 3-2 with a 2.57 ERA after the All-Star break. As long as he is this uneven, you may want to steer clear.

|Giants | Ryan Vogelsong to make another start|
Mon, 17 Aug 2015 21:38:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) will be opposed by Lance Lynn and a good St. Louis offense in their own home park, so it's probably wise to take a pass on him in FantasyScore.
