New York Mets RP Daisuke Matsuzaka had a perfect inning to pick up his first career save against the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, April 24. Manager Terry Collins said RP Kyle Farnsworth was fine to pitch, but he had appeared in three of the last four days and his velocity was down noticeably during his save Wednesday, April 23.
Fantasy Tip: Dice-K is now a realistic option for save chances behind Farnsworth. Farnsie's drop in velocity may be a concern, since he was favoring his right arm earlier this week, too. While Matsuzaka isn't in the ninth-inning role yet, he figures to see occasional save chances in order to keep Farnsworth fresh.

Updating a previous report, New York Mets manager Terry Collins said RP Kyle Farnsworth is the team's primary closer on days that he's available to pitch.
Fantasy Tip: After Daisuke Matsuzaka recorded the save Thursday, it now appears that he's the primary backup option to Farnsworth, should he struggle or get injured. Pick up Matsuzaka if you're in need of saves.

New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth will continue to close games for the team while manager Terry Collins assesses him and internal options such as RP Daisuke Matsuzaka. Matsuzaka faced just a single hitter in his outing Wednesday, April 24. "I wouldn't say I've enjoyed my time out of the bullpen," Matsuzaka said. "I'm still trying to figure things out by seeing how the game progresses and seeing where I might be called upon. I just have too much on my plate right now to enjoy the process right now."
Fantasy Tip: Dice-K notched the save Thursday afternoon. Farnsie had worked in three of the last four days, however, so the Mets may have wanted to give him a break. Regardless, Matsuzaka is now in the saves picture in Flushing. Grab him immediately if you're chasing saves. It could become a closer-by-committee or Matsuzaka could usurp Farnsworth eventually.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said SP Daisuke Matsuzaka is an option to close out games. RP Jose Valverde held the closing job for less than three weeks, and now RP Kyle Farnsworth is in the ninth-inning role. Matsuzaka has made just two relief appearances for the team, allowing a run on two hits in four innings, with two walks and six strikeouts. One problem with Matsuzaka pitching at the back of the bullpen is that he has value as a long-relief man and a backup for the starting rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Dice-K isn't a realistic option just yet, and it would take a meltdown or injury from Farnsworth for this to become serious. For now, he's a speculative target for those truly desperate for potential save opps.

New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth was hunched over and shaking his forearm after the game Monday, April 21, but the team said their new closer is "fine." Farnsworth acknowledged flexing forearm after his save Monday, but he said it's just a sign of being "old." He might not be available to close Tuesday, April 22, because he's been warmed up frequently recently.
Fantasy Tip: That's not what you want to hear from a 38-year-old reliever that was just put into the closing role. Don't lose sight of Jose Valverde or Jeurys Familia, who could see save opportunities if Farnsworth breaks down health-wise.

New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth converted his first save Monday, April 21, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He worked around a single in a scoreless ninth inning. It was his first save since Sept. 29, 2013.
Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth doesn't have a lot of tread left on the tires, but stranger things have happened. Look how Jason Grilli re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option last season despite being a little long in the tooth. Farnsworth is worth scooping up in all NL-only fantasy formats and deeper mixed rotisserie leagues if you need saves.

The New York Mets named RP Kyle Farnsworth as the team's closer Sunday, April 20.
Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth should be owned in all leagues. Get him into your lineups. Jose Valverde will likely see late inning bullpen work and is probably going to lose some of his fantasy baseball value as a result of this move. For more on this situation, go to our Closer Depth Charts.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he'll likely mix and match with eighth-inning setup duties. RP Kyle Farnsworth is a possibility, but so are RPs Jeurys Familia and Scott Rice, among others. The Mets will not immediately look to sign another late-inning reliever available on the free-agent market just yet. New York will also consider promoting SPs Rafael Montero or Jacob deGrom for a bullpen role, but it's unlikely to happen soon.
Fantasy Tip: The only thing really clear for now is that Jose Valverde is the team's closer with Bobby Parnell (elbow) out. That could change, too, but based on Papa Grande's performance this spring and on opening day, he'll have a little rope to play with.

The New York Mets recalled RP Kyle Farnsworth from the minors and outrighted RP Ryan Reid to Triple-A Las Vegas after he cleared waivers Wednesday, April 2.
Tue, 01 Apr 2014 12:42:04 -0700
The New York Mets will place RP Bobby Parnell (elbow) on the disabled list, and they'll purchase the contract of RP Kyle Farnsworth from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: A lot would have to happen for Farnsworth to become the team's next closer with Parnell sidelined. Jose Valverde should be owned in all leagues by now, and Vic Black might even receive a shot before Farnsworth is called upon in the ninth.
