The Houston Astros have outrighted RP Kyle Farnsworth to Triple-A Oklahoma City and called up RP Jose Veras from there.
Fantasy Tip: Veras probably jumps to next in line behind Chad Qualls for saves, but it's not set in stone. The former 'Stro does have experience in the role, though.

Updating a previous item, New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth refused an outright assignment to the minor leagues Wednesday, May 14, and elected free agency instead. "Hopefully find a team to play against this team," Farnsworth said. "I'm very bitter right now." The Mets saved around $750,000 by cutting Farnsworth now, since the signed an advance letter of consent before the year, allowing the team to avoid paying his full contract if he was gone before the 45th day he was on the roster.
Fantasy Tip: Jeurys Familia is now considered the favorite to take over the vacant closer role for New York, with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jose Valverded looming as possibilities if he falters. Familia should now be owned in all leagues.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said the closer situation is being determined on a game-by-game basis with RP Kyle Farnsworth having a heavy workload recently. Collins said RPs Jose Valverde, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jeurys Familia will all be under consideration for a save Tuesday, May 13.
Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth is on a slippery slope right now and could be one blown save or poor outing away from being demoted. If you're looking for long-term possibilities for saves on this club, Familia is probably your best bet.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said RP Jeurys Familia is inching closer to be named the closer.
Fantasy Tip: Kyle Farnsworth hasn't been terrible, but he's not missing as many bats as he did in his younger days. Familia needs to be picked up in NL-only leagues and mixed leagues if you're in need of saves.

New York Mets RP Daisuke Matsuzaka had a perfect inning to pick up his first career save against the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, April 24. Manager Terry Collins said RP Kyle Farnsworth was fine to pitch, but he had appeared in three of the last four days and his velocity was down noticeably during his save Wednesday, April 23.
Fantasy Tip: Dice-K is now a realistic option for save chances behind Farnsworth. Farnsie's drop in velocity may be a concern, since he was favoring his right arm earlier this week, too. While Matsuzaka isn't in the ninth-inning role yet, he figures to see occasional save chances in order to keep Farnsworth fresh.
