Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney is feeling good, and he is throwing much earlier in camp than he did last year. Last season he started camp with a tight shoulder, but he is good to go this year. "This year I just took the first two days to get loose and said I was ready for Tuesday," Rodney said. "It was a good (bullpen session) for me. This year everything is normal."
Fantasy Tip: Rodney is 37, but he remains a useful fantasy option for saves on a team extended to win many games.

Seattle Mariners RP Charlie Furbush likely will have a roster spot to open the year, as manager Lloyd McClendon wants two left-handed relievers. The other could be one of RPs Lucas Luetge, Rafael Perez or David Rollins. RPs Yoervis Medina, Danny Farquhar, Tom Wilhelmsen, Dominic Leone and Carson Smith will likely battle for the other four bullpen slots outside of RP Fernando Rodney. Ps Mark Lowe and Erasmo Ramirez are also options.

Seattle Mariners CL Fernando Rodney blew his third save of the year Sunday, July 20, allowing two runs in the ninth. He took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the year.
Fantasy Tip: Rodney was attempting to complete a five-out save so he deserves a little leeway on this one. Overall, he has blown just three of his 30 save opportunities this year, and he is in no danger of losing his job at this point. Continue to start him with confidence.

The Seattle Mariners aren't concerned with RP Fernando Rodney after he allowed two hits and two runs (one unearned) while walking one and striking out two Tuesday, March 18. Rodney has a spring ERA of 15.75 in four outings. "The fact is, most closers stink in spring training," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "They pitch in the fifth, sixth innings. It's tough. They're a different animal and it's hard to get their adrenaline going. We just need to keep getting him out there and getting his work in."
Fantasy Tip: Spring training numbers shouldn't have you too concerned. It's the walks and wildness that Rodney will have to control for him not to crumble in 2014. The ERA and WHIP might regress from the past two seasons, but he should be a serviceable second or third closer.
