Yankees | DL stint likely for Dustin Ackley?

Sun, 29 May 2016 14:38:07 -0700

New York Yankees INF Dustin Ackley (shoulder) was removed from the game Sunday, May 29, against the Tampa Bay Rays after suffering a shoulder injury when he dove back into first base while attempting to retrieve a pickoff throw. Manager Joe Girardi told reporters after the game Ackley will undergo an MRI and that it is a "distinct possibility" that Ackley will be placed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: New York's first base situation is arguably the worst in baseball right now and one to avoid in fantasy. Regular starter Mark Teixeira, who replaced Ackley following the injury, is batting .193 and coming off a neck injury and Ackley is hitting 148 following today's effort. Prospect Greg Bird is already out for the season as well. The Yankees desperately need to look at other alternatives if they wish to remain in the playoff conversation this fall.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira doubtful for Sunday

Sat, 28 May 2016 12:20:49 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) is not expected to play on Sunday, May 29, against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to manager Joe Girardi, who is more optimistic about his return on Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira has been out since Wednesday due to neck spasms, although it is hard to say he is being missed much offensively (.195. three homers, 12 RBI). With that said, replacement Dustin Ackley isn't exactly taking advantage of the opportunity and has been even worse this season (.145, no homers, four RBI). New York desperately needs to improve on its current options at first base before the trade deadline, meaning fantasy owners in all formats can certainly ignore either option for now.

Yankees | Joe Girardi considering six-man rotation

Wed, 25 May 2016 21:31:16 -0700

With the New York Yankees in the midst of a stretch of 40 games in 41 days, manager Joe Girardi indicated he would consider going with a six-man rotation when SP Luis Severino (triceps) is ready to return from the disabled list. "I think at some point, we'll consider injecting a sixth man in there," Girardi said. "I can't tell you at what point. It depends on how hard your starters have worked, what they look like, how they feel. But at some point, we would do it."

Fantasy Tip: It's no secret New York's rotation is filled with durability risks, so lightening the load during such an intensive stretch of games makes sense. Plus, it would help them sort of which five should start going forward. Each pitcher would stand to lose one or two starts over a 40-game stretch, so the impact would be negligible.

Yankees | NYY will discuss Brendan Ryan

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 13:27:46 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman will discuss SS Brendan Ryan (calf), who has been out all season with a calf strain.

Fantasy Tip: With Didi Gregorius ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Stephen Drew ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) struggling, it's apparent the Yankees would like Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) back to serve as a backup infielder and even start a few games. Watch this situation and see how it affects everyone if Ryan is healthy enough.

Yankees | Brian McCann injured

Mon, 25 May 2015 02:21:16 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann (foot) left the gane against the Texas Rangers on Sunday, May 24, due to a cramp in his foot and calf. Manager Joe Girardi told media he would have more details on Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: McCann ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has had a tendency to be brittle in his New York years. Wait for more details on his condition before deciding what you do with him.

Yankees | Yankees want closer decided by spring training

Tue, 03 Feb 2015 12:35:11 -0800

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller and RP Dellin Betances will enter spring training with neither in the closing role, but manager Joe Girardi wants a closer decided by the end of spring training. "I think guys like to know their roles, so I think if we can iron it out, I think it would be a good thing to do," said Girardi.

Sun, 10 Aug 2014 08:21:48 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (finger) may play Sunday, Aug. 10, if he gets through batting practice without issue, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: Check back after batting practice is complete. If Teixeira is back in the lineup, get him back into your daily league lineups.

Yankees | No idea who the starting pitcher will be Sunday

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 06:13:17 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is not sure who the starting pitcher will be for the team Sunday, July 13. Newly acquired SP Jeff Francis may seem like a logical option, but he has not had a lot of work lately. "He's a guy that's probably in the 30 to 40 pitch range right now," Girardi said, noting that Francis hadn't arrived yet. "We'll talk to him when he gets here and see what he's been doing the last few days."

Mon, 19 May 2014 00:44:03 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran (elbow) is expected to get a second opinion on his injured right elbow Tuesday, May 20, from noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews. Beltran is on the disabled list with a bone spur. He received a second cortisone injection in the elbow Saturday, said manager Joe Girardi.
