Marlins | Placido Polanco to DL |
Tue, 20 Aug 2013 09:03:38 -0700
The Miami Marlins placed 3B Placido Polanco (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 19, and recalled INF Gil Velazquez from the minors in a corresponding move. Also, OF Marcell Ozuna (thumb) was moved to the 60-day DL.
Fantasy Tip: Greg Dobbs will likely take over as the regular third baseman until Polanco returns. With the season winding down, however, Polanco isn't a sure bet to return with a concussion. Dobbs is strictly an NL-only commodity.

Marlins | Chris Coghlan to work at 3B |
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 16:38:37 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Chris Coghlan (calf) is beginning his rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter Wednesday, Aug. 14, and he'll play five innings at third base. Coghlan hasn't played third regularly since 2009 in the minors. "I like what he does offensively. I like what he brought to the team before he got hurt, so we'll see. Hopefully he'll stay healthy and we'll get him up here and see what he can do," manager Mike Redmond said. The team is hoping to have Coghlan around Sept. 1.
Fantasy Tip: Placido Polanco is neither the solution nor the future at the hot corner in Miami. Perhaps Coghlan can convince the team to keep him there in spring training next season. He won't have much time to contribute there when he returns, but keep him in mind for third base eligibility next season.

MLB | Several players put on waivers |
Fri, 02 Aug 2013 12:15:08 -0700
Seattle Mariners SP Aaron Harang, Toronto Blue Jays OF Melky Cabrera, Milwaukee Brewers RP Mike Gonzalez and Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco were put on waivers Friday, Aug. 2, and more players are expected to follow.
Fantasy Tip: This doesn't mean any trades are imminent. If a player is claimed by another club, the team that currently owns the player can either pull him back or work out a trade with the claiming team. In other words, not trades are imminent at the moment for any of these names.

Marlins | Placido Polanco could hit cleanup |
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 13:42:04 -0700
Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco could hit cleanup behind OF Giancarlo Stanton this year. "It's one of those things where we're going to have a lot of different guys hitting probably in a lot of different spots," manager Mike Redmond said. "I like Polanco hitting there. He gives you a veteran bat, a guy who puts the ball in play. He can hit behind runners. He can hit and run. He handles the bat well and might be a nice fit behind Stanton."
Fantasy Tip: Back issues continue to be a problem for Polanco, and a very solid contact rate is pretty much the only thing he has going for him these days. He's a very bland fantasy commodity that only warrants attention in NL-only leagues.

Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (back) will sit out a few more games while dealing with back spasms. "He's having that same problem," manager Mike Redmond said. "No timetable. He's got to figure out what's going on, what's grabbing on him and where he is." OF Justin Ruggiano (back) is scheduled to play Saturday, March 9, in center field. OF Jake Marisnick (hand) hit in the cages and did fielding drills Friday, March 8. 3B Greg Dobbs (calf) continues to do drills but isn't playing in games.
