Pirates | Aramis Ramirez retires

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 11:40:27 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez announced his retirement Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Harrison could be in the third base mix if the team doesn't decide to upgrade. He came back to Earth a bit in 2015 but is worth a late flyer.

Pirates | Josh Harrison finished the season hot

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 15:23:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison owns a .378 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage with 10 extra-base hits over his past 74 at-bats since Thursday, Sept. 10. With 3B Aramis Ramirez mired in a 2-for-20 stretch at the plate over his past 20 games, Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It is no wonder Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) received the starting nod over Ramirez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), but FantasyScore players will want to think twice about loading up Harrison in their FantasyScore lineups Wednesday. After all, Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs over his past 12 starts.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez, Pedro Alvarez out Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 11:55:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup for the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and hitting second, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at first base and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to recommend anyone against Arrieta, who had the best second half of any pitcher in baseball history. However, Harrison ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is attractive at his price and lineup position. Rodriguez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be avoided.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez sitting out

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 10:17:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez is not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Josh Smith. 3B Josh Harrison will start at third base and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely will be in the lineup for the wild-card playoff game. Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has picked up five hits in his last five games but has not recorded an RBI in his last nine games. Owners may be able to find better options to use.

Pirates | Josh Harrison grabs some pine

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:16:39 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Josh Harrison is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with 3B Aramis Ramirez hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: A-Ram ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 2-for-6 (.333) with a homer off Michael Wacha. He is hitting just .188 the last week, but Ramirez has owned the Cardinals in his career. He's a speculative flyer on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez sitting out

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:16:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 28. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and batting second against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) doesn't have any home runs and just four RBI this month, but he's also hitting .306 (22-for-72) with six doubles. Lynn has been up and down this month but had six shutout innings in his last inning. You could do much worse than Harrison as a value play on FantasyScore tonight.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco, Aramis Ramirez back in

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 10:23:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco (ankle, knee) and 3B Aramis Ramirez (groin) are back in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Coming off an injury and facing a tough lefty, Polanco ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) isn't a strong daily pick. He's hitting just .207 (24-for-116) with two of his nine home runs against southpaws. A-Ram ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is more acceptable as a value pick and has five hits in 11 career at-bats against Lester, but he too is coming off an injury.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez still out

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 10:35:46 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez (groin) remains out of the lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base again and is hitting leadoff against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has hit well this month despite a lack of power, and he's a nice value pick on FantasyScore again in the series finale at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Pirates | No Aramis Ramirez Wednesday

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:21:25 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez (groin) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. 3B Josh Harrison is starting at third base and is hitting second against Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has picked it up this month, hitting .304 (17-for-56) but has no home runs and only three RBI. One of those RBI came last night, and he is a solid value pick on FantasyScore at hitter-friendly Coors Field against a mediocre starter.

Pirates | Aramis Ramirez lifted early

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 22:11:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Aramis Ramirez (groin) left the game Tuesday, Sept. 22, against the Colorado Rockies due to tightness in his left groin.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and play without any lingering effects of his injury.
