Yankees | Alex Rodriguez will not play

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:59:28 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (oblique) is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cesar Ramos Monday, April 25. OF Carlos Beltran will serve as the designated hitter, while 2B Dustin Ackley will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see how long Rodriguez will be out of the lineup. Ackley has gone 1-for-9 in his limited playing time this season, so owners should be able to find better options in their lineups.

Yankees | NYY shuffles lineup vs. Mariners

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:03:46 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran is batting third, and DH Alex Rodriguez is batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez has hit third for most of the season, but he is off to a 3-for-30 start, whereas Beltran is scorching hot. The outfielder has six runs, three home runs, seven RBI and a .351/.368/.649 slash line over 38 plate appearances to start the campaign. Beltran should be owned in all fantasy formats, whereas Rodriguez is a candidate to be benched until he heats up at the dish.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran has vintage day

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 13:44:54 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran went 4-for-5 with three extra-base hits, including two doubles and a solo home run, in a loss to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: It was an odd day for the Yankees, who also got multi-hit efforts from Brett Gardner and Starlin Castro but somehow managed to go for 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Beltran has proven to be a fine middle-round value so far, batting .351 with three homers and seven RBI through 10 contests, and should remain in all lineups for the time being.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran set for his final season?

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 15:48:29 -0800

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran acknowledged the 2016 season might be the last of his career Wednesday, Feb. 10.

"I'm just concentrating on just this year," Beltran said. "Because I have a responsibility of one more year on my contract, so, I just want to really put myself in a position where I can help this ballclub. And, at the end of the year, I will decide what's going to happen based on the year that I put this year, and if physically I feel like I want to play one more, then I would love to."

Fantasy Tip: Following a respectable 2015 where he hit .276 with an .808 OPS, 19 home runs and 67 RBI, Beltran still has plenty of fantasy appeal leading into his age-39 season. The issue, which has been a theme through his two years in pinstripes, has been health. Beltran has averaged just 490 plate appearances per year with the Yankees, after all. The veteran still warrants a late-round selection in the majority of seasonal leagues because of his plus-production when healthy.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks to be fourth outfielder

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 12:21:59 -0800

New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks profiles as the team's fourth outfielder, and he can play all three outfield positions. He could be a late-inning replacement for OF Carlos Beltran in right field often, and he had an .870 OPS against left-handed pitchers last year.

Fantasy Tip: An injury anywhere in the outfield could open up significant playing time for Hicks as an option for depth in deep mixed leagues. Hicks could also be a sneaky option in daily formats against the right southpaws if he finds his way into the starting lineup.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran drops weight over winter

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 09:54:20 -0800

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran reportedly lost 10 pounds over the winter, according to a source. "(I) might try and steal some bases this year," Beltran said.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran was a consistent bet for 20-plus homers and 20-plus steals once upon a time, but those days are long gone. The 38-year-old eight-time All-Star didn't steal a base in 133 games last year, so the Yankees and his owners would probably be happy if he can provide something close to the .279 batting average, 19 home runs and 67 RBI he did last season. He's a late-round fantasy consideration at best.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has a .391-3-6 line in 23 career at-bats against Ubaldo Jimenez. He's a midrange option on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran out of the lineup

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 08:17:29 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran is not in the starting lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, Oct. 3. 2B Jose Pirela will start in right field against SP Wei-Yin Chen and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) likely is receiving a game off and should play in Game 2. Pirela ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting only .229 in limited playing time this season and could be avoided by owners.

Yankees | Carlos Beltran continues to hit

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 18:17:56 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in a 5-0 win over the New York Mets Saturday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Since the start of May, Beltran ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is hitting .301 with 16 homers and 49 RBI. After looking finished early in the year, Beltran is suddenly a viable mid-priced option at FantasyScore most nights.
