Marlins | Trio of players could return Monday |
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 16:28:46 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), 2B Donovan Solano (intercostal) and 1B Joe Mahoney (hamstring) had their rehab games rained out the past two days, but all three are on track to return from their disabled list stints Monday, June 10.
Fantasy Tip: Stanton and Solano will return to starting duties, but Mahoney will likely serve as the backup to Casey Kotchman at first base. Marcell Ozuna's hot bat should keep him in the everyday lineup even with the return of Stanton. A platoon in left field between Juan Pierre and Justin Ruggiano could be in order.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton expects to return Monday |
Thu, 06 Jun 2013 06:14:20 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter at Class A Jupiter Thursday, June 6, after playing in two consecutive rehab games. He played seven innings in the outfield Wednesday, June 5. Stanton expects to come off the disabled list Monday, June 10.
Fantasy Tip: This will make fantasy owners rejoice. Marcell Ozuna is expected to move to center field, and that may signal the end for Juan Pierre with Justin Ruggiano in left. However, don't write off Pierre just yet; he could platoon with Ruggiano in left so the team can utilize his speed occasionally.

Marlins | May go with platoon in CF |
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 15:10:37 -0700
Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said he may choose to go with a platoon in center field to start the year. OF Christian Yelich may be Redmond's top choice, but he's expected to start the season at Double-A Jacksonville. Yelich is hitting .381 this spring and leads the team with five home runs and 13 RBIs. "I play him all the time. I love him. Like I said, he's had a great spring. He's done everything we've asked of him. But at the end of the day, he's never had an at-bat above A ball, and we have to make sure we're doing the right thing for him and the organization," Redmond said. OFs Chris Coghlan, Gorkys Hernandez and Justin Ruggiano (back) are the realistic candidates. Ruggiano is 1-for-11 after returning from a back injury and doesn't look 100 percent healthy. Coghlan has a minor league option left, but he appears to deserve a spot the most. The team will not move OF Juan Pierre from left field to center.
Fantasy Tip: Ruggiano is in line for regression after a very fortunate hit rate last season as he emerged out of nowhere. He's somewhat intriguing, but mainly only for his power. Coghlan and Hernandez only stand out in NL-only leagues, and their luster is lessened with platoon possibilities. Yelich will probably see major league at-bats later in the season.
