Red Sox | David Ortiz continues to move up list

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:52:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI Tuesday, June 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He pulled even with Hall of Famer Frank Thomas for 23rd place on the all-time RBIs list with 1,704.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz has continued to roll up huge numbers in his swan song season, proving he still has plenty left in the tank. He remains a top-notch fantasy play in seasonal leagues and a good DFS play regardless of price tag.

Red Sox | David Ortiz receives day off

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 10:46:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez Sunday, June 26. OF Bryce Brentz will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Ryan LaMarre will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: LaMarre only has two at-bats since being recalled, so owners should not consider him an option at this point. Brentz has gone 2-for-8 since joining the team and can be avoided at this point.

Red Sox | Big Papi's hit streak snapped

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 22:56:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz was hitless in three at-bats with a walk Saturday, June 25, against the Texas Rangers to snap his 10-game hitting streak. His run was the longest active streak in the majors.

Fantasy Tip: While Big Papi had a 10-game hitting streak, he hasn't had a multi-hit game since June 16, a span of nine games. He has cooled off a bit, but remains an obvious must-start in all fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | David Ortiz tallies 60th RBI

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 22:54:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz went 1-for-3 with an RBI against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz is just the third player in baseball to reach the 60-RBI mark -- Edwin Encarnacion (62) and Nolan Arenado (60) are the others -- and the 40-year-old simply continues to make life miserable for opposing hurlers. As long as the BoSox are in an AL city, Ortiz needs to be in your lineup.

Red Sox | David Ortiz not starting Tuesday

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:43:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is not in the lineup Tuesday, June 21, against the Chicago White Sox. OF Hanley Ramirez will man the DH slot against White Sox SP Chris Sale, while 1B Travis Shaw is at first and 3B Deven Marrero mans third base.

Fantasy Tip: All these roster changes are largely due to Ortiz sitting out against a left-handed pitcher. Ramirez is a decent bat in all formats as he's warming up (six hits in the last six games). After a slump earlier in the month, Shaw is warming up in daily formats (six hits in the last seven games). Marrero has only been up a few days and does not have significant fantasy value yet.

Red Sox | David Ortiz hits well at Target Field

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 12:50:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is 30-for-69 (.435 batting average) with nine home runs and 23 RBI through 17 career games at Target Field. Boston is beginning a three-game road series against the Minnesota Twins Friday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: In the victory lap of his career, it seems odd to say, but Ortiz is well on his way to flirting with a career year. He owns a .338/.425/.728 slash line with 28 runs, 16 home runs and 55 RBI. Continue to start him confidently in all fantasy formats.

Red Sox | David Ortiz, Travis Shaw out

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 15:20:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (rest) and 3B Travis Shaw (rest) are both out of the lineup Wednesday, June 8, against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner. Ortiz is sitting while the team plays without a designated hitter in a National League park, while 2B Josh Rutledge is filling in at third base and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz hasn't played first base all year, so it's no surprise to see Hanley Ramirez continue to hold down the fort there while the Red Sox play a rare series at AT&T Park. Shaw, meanwhile, is getting a breather with an elite southpaw on the hill, but owners shouldn't really consider his replacement for this evening in daily games. Rutledge doesn't have a hit in his last 11 at-bats.

Red Sox | David Ortiz on the bench this week

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 17:05:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz will serve as a pinch-hitter this week in San Francisco, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Take note of this and keep Ortiz out of your rosters for the next several days. Once the Red Sox return to an AL park, though, return him to starting lineups everywhere. Papi is making it look easy in his swan song with a .340/.424/.732 slash line and 16 home runs and 54 RBI.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz streaking

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:49:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia and 1B David Ortiz are both in the midst of 13-game hitting streaks. Ortiz is 22-for-50 with 16 extra-base hits and 20 RBI during the span, while Pedroia is 21-for-54 with eight extra-base hits and six RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Ho hum for the Boston offense. Who isn't hitting in Boston? Anyway, Pedroia and Papi are must-starts in all fantasy formats. However, while playing in San Fran this week, Ortiz might see the bench more often than not. He's not playing Tuesday night.

Red Sox | David Ortiz on the bench

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:30:12 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Albert Suarez Tuesday, June 7, because the team is playing in a National League stadium and does not have a designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz should be available as a pinch hitter but likely will not be in the starting lineup during the series against the Giants. Owners in daily fantasy leagues should avoid Ortiz for the next few days.
