Red Sox | Big Papi homers again

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 22:32:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz homered Monday, July 27, against the Chicago White Sox, finishing with two RBIs in five at-bats. Ortiz has 13 straight seasons with 20 or more home runs. The only other American League player to do it more was Babe Ruth, who had 15 with the New York Yankees from 1920-34.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has posted three home runs and nine RBIs over the past two games. Ride him in FantasyScore until he starts to slow down.

Red Sox | David Ortiz with monster game

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 22:01:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Big Papi ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has a .303-6-18 line in 66 July at-bats and is well worth the midrange price on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | David Ortiz back in lineup

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 11:09:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is back in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Saturday, July 25, batting cleanup. OF Hanley Ramirez, who served as the designated hitter Friday, July 24, will return to left field and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is only batting .196 during day games and is 1-for-6 versus Simon in his career but has started hitting better this month, with four home runs and 11 RBIs through 58 July at-bats. That being said, better FantasyScore options should be available.

Red Sox | David Ortiz out of the lineup

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 13:39:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander Friday, July 24. OF Hanley Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Ramirez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is hitting only .185 this month and may not be the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | David Ortiz expected to be ready

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 10:25:52 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (illness) is expected to serve as the designated hitter against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this weekend after missing the game Sunday, July 12, due to an illness. Manager John Farrell said Ortiz is unlikely to play first base again this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is having a disappointing year in 2015, and he should be ignored on FantasyScore Friday night against Angels lefty C.J. Wilson. Papi is hitting only .128 (11-for-86) with one of his 15 home runs against southpaws this year.

Red Sox | David Ortiz turning the corner?

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 13:01:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz has 14 runs, eight home runs, 19 RBI and a .244/.376/.544 slash line over his last 26 games and 109 plate appearances. He also has a 17.4% walk rate during the span.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) had only seven home runs with a .225/.303/.387 slash line through his first 54 game and 231 plate appearances this season, so clearly he is heating up entering the All-Star break. The improvement in on-base percentage is extremely notable, and in points leagues and FantasyScore contests, it certainly helps Ortiz's outlook for the second half.

Red Sox | David Ortiz out with illness

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 09:34:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (illness) is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi Sunday, July 12. 1B Travis Shaw will start at first base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for any updates on Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) after the break to see when he can play again. Shaw has not doing much at the plate since joining the team and probably should be avoided by owners.

Red Sox | Mike Napoli out again

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 11:55:46 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli is out of the starting lineup for the third straight game Wednesday, July 8. 1B David Ortiz is starting at first base and hitting cleanup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has only one hit in 17 at-bats in July to drop his average to .192 on the season. Stay away from him everywhere until we see signs of life. Ortiz ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been much better against righties (.269) than lefties (.128), and 13 of his 14 long balls have come off right-handers. This is a matchup worth trusting Ortiz at FantasyScore.

Red Sox | David Ortiz starting at 1B

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 08:20:15 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz will be the starting first baseman against the Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Sunday, July 5. 1B Mike Napoli is not in the lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is receiving a rare start in the field Sunday. He has five hits, two home runs and six RBI over his last five games and could be an option for owners on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | David Ortiz defying his critics

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:35:21 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz has hit seven home runs in his last 19 games and has 13 on the season. Ortiz continues to deny that he has lost bat speed as he ages. "I don't know why people go there," Ortiz said. "Why don't they throw me 96 mph right down (the middle). Tell all the pitchers to throw me fastballs 96 right down the (middle). See if I lost bat speed."

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is only hitting .228 (60-for-263) on the season, though, despite his 13 long balls and 36 RBI. More concerning are his struggles against lefties in 2015 (.114/.122/.152 in 79 at-bats). He's a big time risk/reward play today on FantasyScore against Toronto Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle. Papi is 26-for-83 (.313) in his career against the left-hander with six home runs and 24 RBI.
