Red Sox | Big Papi swats 495th homer

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 22:01:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run Monday, Aug. 31, against the New York Yankees. It was his third homer in four games, 14th since the All-Star break and the 495th of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is finishing up the season strong and he is worth every penny in FantasyScore while running hot.

Red Sox | David Ortiz moves up HR ladder

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 13:47:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz hit his 494th career home run, moving past Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff into 27th on the all-time list.

Fantasy Tip: This is a nice honor for Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap), who is hitting .345-7-19 but has a .200 average in the past seven days. Leave Ortiz in your lineup when he faces right-handed pitching, as that's where he does the most damage.

Red Sox | David Ortiz starting at first base

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 07:34:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is playing first base and batting fourth against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard Sunday, Aug. 30. 1B Travis Shaw is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Without a designated hitter option in the road series at New York, the Red Sox have swapped in Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) at first base for two games. The veteran slugger has been on fire in August and owns a .345/.427/.679 slash line with seven home runs. In fact, Ortiz currently has exactly seven home runs in each of the past three months after hitting just six through April and May. He is a risky FantasyScore play Sunday, though. Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will return to regular at-bats next week, and he is worth a look in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | David Ortiz not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:39:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Saturday, Aug. 29. INF Travis Shaw will bat fifth and start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: With the Red Sox playing an interleague game in a National League stadium, Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) finds himself riding the pine Saturday. After a hot start to the month of August, Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is just 2-for-23 over the past week and shouldn't be used in FantasyScore cleanup.

Red Sox | David Ortiz leaves game

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 00:24:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (heel) left his team's game against the New York Mets on Friday, Aug. 28, with left heel tightness in the eighth inning. Manager Torey Lovullo said they would reevaluate Ortiz before Saturday's game.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) could be a day-to-day proposition, meaning you will have to pay attention to the starting lineup when unveiled. It may be best to sit Ortiz for a day or two, because heel tightness can affect bat swings and running around the bases.

Red Sox | Travis Shaw sitting against the Mets

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:15:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Travis Shaw is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 28. 1B David Ortiz is playing first base and batting fourth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Without the option to utilize a designated hitter, Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is playing first base. The veteran has 14 runs, six home runs and 18 RBI with a .325/.414/.625 slash line through 22 games and August. He is a viable option at FantasyScore Friday, but Harvey ($9,400, 18.6% of cap) presents a tough matchup. Shaw ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been great for Boston and fantasy owners this month. He is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues at this point. And while he is slowing down of late, he does have seven home runs in August.

Red Sox | No David Ortiz vs. White Sox

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:02:34 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 26. OF Hanley Ramirez is batting fourth as the designated hitter against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale, which allowed OFs Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo to draw into the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: While Sale ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) has had a few peaks and valleys of late, he presents a brutally tough matchup, and starting Boston hitters at FantasyScore is incredibly risky. Unless you're after a contrarian stack, you're likely better off avoiding them entirely.

Red Sox | David Ortiz reaches five times

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 20:48:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 2-for-2 with three walks in a 6-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) continues to enjoy a strong month, and he is hitting .377 with six home runs and 17 RBI in August. Feel free to pay up for Ortiz at FantasyScore as he enjoys his best stretch of the year.

Red Sox | David Ortiz launches a pair

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 16:40:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 3-for-3 with two runs, two home runs, three RBI and a walk during the Red Sox's 14-6 loss to the Miami Marlins Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is in the midst of his 14th consecutive 20-home run season, and while the 39-year-old slugger and the Red Sox are having a tough year, Ortiz has been much better of late. Over his past 25 games, he has 19 runs, 10 home runs and 25 RBI. While hitting well, Ortiz stands as a nice FantasyScore option in favorable matchups.

Red Sox | David Ortiz loves Motor City

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 21:28:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in a 7-2 win over the Detroit Tigers Friday, Aug. 7, and his 20 home runs at Comerica Park are the most by any visiting player.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is hitting a disappointing .241 this year, but he still has plenty of power upside. He averages a homer almost every 10 at-bats at Comerica Park, so you may want to stick with him at FantasyScore throughout the weekend as the series continues.
