Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) will be the team's starting quarterback in 2018 if he decides to play, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: This is only of interest to those in keeper leagues, though Arians is still hoping Palmer will play the final two games in 2017. Either way, Palmer tops out as a reserve these days.

Sat, 02 Dec 2017 18:52:04 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is still a longshot to return, and even if he does come back late in the season, there is no reason to expect him to help out fantasy teams.

Wed, 22 Nov 2017 12:45:48 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) has not made the progress he was expected to make in his rehabilitation and is not expected to return this season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert will continue to man the Cardinals' offense this year. It's unclear what Palmer's football future holds; he'll be 38 years old at the end of the year. Either way, Palmer can be dropped if he hasn't been already.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer sheds cast

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 13:19:37 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) recently had his cast removed from his injured arm, according to head coach Bruce Arians. It has already been said that Palmer could return later this season.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals could certainly use Palmer back in their huddle, although Blaine Gabbert held his own last week. It may be worth holding on to Palmer for the fantasy playoffs. He'll have a favorable matchup in Week 16 versus the New York Giants if he returns by then.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer back in Week 16?

Sat, 11 Nov 2017 18:21:29 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) didn't rule out a Week 16 return. "I could potentially be available the last two weeks of the season," Palmer said.

Fantasy Tip: Even though there is a chance Palmer could return, he can be left on the waiver wire. If you are lucky enough to reach the fantasy playoffs, trusting a returning Palmer would be a recipe for a quick exit.

Thu, 26 Oct 2017 13:46:15 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Oct. 26.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) will have surgery to repair his broken arm Wednesday, Oct. 25, according to a source. He hopes to return quicker than the eight-week window.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer should be dropped in most formats, and his replacement, Drew Stanton, isn't much of an option outside of two-QB leagues.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer thinks he can return

Mon, 23 Oct 2017 14:16:54 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) believes he may be able to return in four to six weeks, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said the team will wait to see what the doctors say but that Palmer could be designated to return if he is placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Palmer will be out at least a month and probably will be out longer. Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback for the time being but should not be an option in any fantasy leagues and likely will hurt the fantasy value of the Cardinals pass catchers.

Cardinals | Arm injury for Carson Palmer

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 11:09:51 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) suffered a left arm injury in Week 7 and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if Palmer will be able to return to the game. Palmer has posted solid numbers over the last few weeks and is a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 fantasy quarterback when healthy.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer throws three TDs

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 20:27:19 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 18 of his 22 passes for 283 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a 38-33 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer had his best outing of the season, and it was probably no coincidence that Adrian Peterson made the run game credible for the first time all year. If Peterson can continue to provide balance, Palmer could sneak back into QB1 territory.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer has solid performance

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 14:06:43 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer went 28-for-44 for 291 yards and one touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has thrown for at least 290 yards in each of his last four games and has five touchdowns and two interceptions during that span. He will be facing a solid Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense in Week 6 but can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer throws for 357 yards

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 20:20:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 33 of his 51 pass attempts for 357 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer was bothered frequently, sacked six times in the game, but he still managed a high yardage total against the giving 49ers pass defense. Of course, his final pass was his only touchdown strike of the day, so his fantasy totals didn't exactly wow anyone.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer working deep

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 23:15:49 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has 25 completions of more than 15 yards this season, including a league-high 10 in Week 3. For the season, only New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (30) has more.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has looked pretty good when given time, but the ongoing struggles of Arizona's offensive line is a major concern for the immobile veteran. He's not a QB1, but he's a viable start in the right matchups.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer has his best game of '17

Mon, 25 Sep 2017 21:31:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 29-of-48 passes for 325 yards, adding two touchdowns while throwing no interceptions in the team's Week 3 game Monday, Sept. 25, versus the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: This was Palmer's best game of the young season, and his second good one in a row following his season-opening clunker in Detroit. Even more impressive is that he didn't have John Brown again, though Larry Fitzgerald's monstrous performance certainly helped. If Palmer had a better offensive line, he'd be more involved in the QB1 conversation, but as it is, he's more of a streaming option than anything else in standard leagues.

Sat, 23 Sep 2017 14:39:11 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (non-injury) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has thrown for 600 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions over the first two games of the season and will be without at least one of his receivers. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use and can avoid Palmer.

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 14:33:31 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Palmer continues to receive practices off during the season but will be fine for Week 3. He has thrown for 600 yards two touchdowns and four interceptions in the first two weeks of the season and will be facing a solid Dallas Cowboys defense. He should be avoided this week and will only be a starting option against favorable matchups.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer rebounds in Week 2

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 14:59:58 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer threw for 332 yards on 19-for-36 passing, with one touchdown and one interception, in a 16-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer threw three interceptions against the Detroit Lions but cut that number to one in Week 2. Still, Palmer has 38 incomplete passes in two weeks, and that is the number fantasy owners need to look at. Palmer is a weaker QB2 option at best.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer expects different offense

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 19:25:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he expects the offense to change "drastically" without RB David Johnson (wrist).

Fantasy Tip: Even without Johnson, the Arizona offense could be in for a good showing in Week 2 against an Indianapolis defense that was torched by Jared Goff in the opener. Palmer could be a sneaky QB1.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer tosses three INTs

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 16:29:45 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 27 of his 48 pass attempts for 269 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Week 1 at Detroit.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer was sacked once and he finished with a quarterback rating of 53.2, which isn't exactly the start he and his fantasy owners were looking for. He faces a much better matchup in Week 2 at Indianapolis against a pass defense which was tuned up by Jared Goff and the Rams.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer listed as full participant

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 13:24:55 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (non-injury) was able to take part in a full practice session for the second straight day on Friday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer was held out of Wednesday's practice, as the veteran was getting a rest. It has become commonplace in the NFL that teams rest some of their veterans as a method of preservation. He'll be under center in Week 1 in Detroit and he faces a fairly favorable matchup.

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 14:23:28 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer will be receiving days off during the season to make sure he stays healthy and will be on the field for Week 1. He can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues this week because of his matchup.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer rests up before opener

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 15:00:56 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (rest) did not practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Bruce Arians was giving his veteran signal caller a day off, which isn't terribly uncommon in the NFL. Palmer opens on the road, and he posted a 58.0 percent completion rate with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as opposed to 63.6 percent, 13 touchdowns and just three picks at home in 2016. Still, he'll be facing a porous Detroit secondary and he could get off to a decent start for his fantasy owners.

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 18:47:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed eight of his 13 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: If his receiving corps can stay healthy, Palmer has the firepower to sneak back in QB1 territory. Draft him as a high-end QB2.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer gets another day off

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 23:09:04 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer got a veteran's day off Thursday, July 27. It was his second day off in five days of practice and comes on the heels of a team day off Wednesday, July 26. It's part of the team's ongoing plan to rest his arm whenever possible during the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Everything Bruce Arians does in July and August is geared toward getting 16 games out of Palmer during the regular season. The 37-year-old isn't among the elite fantasy QBs out there, but he has a pretty high statistical floor and should be a strong reserve / spot starter in 2017.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer to see more time in preseason

Sun, 23 Jul 2017 14:22:28 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer will receive more playing snaps this preseason than he did in 2016, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer probably will only see a few more snaps during each game but will see most of his work in the team's fourth preseason game. He will have a strong group of pass catchers to work with again this season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer will not play in HOF game

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 15:06:42 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer will be held out of the Hall-of-Fame game on Thursday, August 3, against the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Bruce Arians has made it clear he intends to give Palmer a regular rest throughout the season, so there is no need for him to play in this contest when he would be limited to two series at the most. Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton will likely split snaps through the first half before Trevor Knight closes it out.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer threw too much last offseason

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 06:45:08 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer wore his arm out from throwing too much last offseason, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said they've found a good routine for Palmer.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer had a mediocre September, but he hit his stride in October. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,206 yards (his best month) with five touchdowns and two interceptions. At 37, it's hard to make a case for him as a strong QB1 in fantasy.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer unsure about future

Tue, 27 Jun 2017 16:12:21 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he is not ready to say how much longer he will play football.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer will be on the field in 2017 and will have some terrific weapons to work with in the passing game. He has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in four of the last five seasons and has 61 touchdowns over the last two seasons. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer noncommittal on future

Tue, 16 May 2017 11:52:43 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he has no idea if 2017 will be his last year in the NFL. He will evaluate himself when the season is over as he does every year.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer hasn't exactly declined with age. He has thrown for close to 9,000 yards and 61 touchdowns over the last two seasons. That being said, his QB1 days are probably over at 37 years old.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer to rest this offseason

Fri, 12 May 2017 16:01:05 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer likely will not throw until the end of offseason workouts, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said the team wants to keep Palmer fresh for the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer probably will not play much during the preseason but will be ready for Week 1. He will have solid weapons to work with the passing game and probably should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in a majority of fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Arizona wants long-term quarterback

Mon, 13 Feb 2017 13:53:26 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is returning for a 14th NFL season, but general manager Steve Keim admits that he wants to find a quarterback for the Cardinals long-term future. "You're not a GM for long if you don't find [a quarterback]," Keim said. "I have to do a better job with my staff and the coaching staff, we have to identify the right guy and put this organization in position to have success for years to come.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is nearing the end of his playing career at 37 years old, so the Cardinals could very well look to free agency or the draft this year for that possible answer. As for Palmer, he's a borderline QB1, but it's safer to draft him as a backup fantasy quarterback.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer will play in 2017

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 12:17:32 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has announced that he will play in 2017 after considering retirement.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is coming off a 2016 season where he recorded 4,233 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Palmer will have plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game, but he probably should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Bruce Arians expects Carson Palmer back

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 11:58:28 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he thinks QB Carson Palmer will "announce he's coming back real soon," in regards to his status for the 2017 season.

Fantasy Tip: With fellow veteran Larry Fitzgerald recently announcing that he'd back next year, there is strong belief that Palmer will indeed return as well. In an above-average offense that puts up a lot of points, the former No. 1 overall draft pick will have potential to put up some desirable numbers, but coming off a down campaign last season, he should be considered more of a QB2 on draft day in most leagues.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer decision coming soon?

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 19:46:40 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is reportedly "tied to the hip" with WR Larry Fitzgerald in terms of their playing futures. Fitzgerald announced Wednesday, Feb. 1, he will return for another season, suggesting it is a "good sign" Palmer will do the same.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has been noncommittal about his playing future to this point. He has indicated his intention is to play, but that it will depend on how his body recuperates from "the most physically trying season of his career." It seems more probable than not Palmer plays at least one more year, but Arizona needs to ramp up its efforts to find his successor. Palmer turned 37 in December and should be treated as midrange QB2 in 2017 should he decide to keep playing.

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 09:14:52 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer sent a text message to The Arizona Republic writer Kent Somers to dispel rumors, stating Palmer's Arizona home is not on the market.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has yet to confirm his intentions for 2017, but most signs point to the veteran returning. He would be a QB2 in fantasy drafts.

Cardinals | Bruce Arians expects stars back in '17

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 18:52:39 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expects both QB Carson Palmer and WR Larry Fitzgerald to return in 2017. He feels "comfortable with where they're at" and added, "I think when the juices start flowing and the injuries go away, they'll both be back. But there's nothing to confirm yet."

Fantasy Tip: At this point early into Arizona's offseason, it's still unknown if both stars plan on continuing their respective careers. Fitzgerald is 33 years old and coming off his eighth 1,000-yard season, so there is certainly no doubt that he can still play at an elite level, which could point to him returning. Palmer, 37, isn't as much a sure bet to come back, especially after somewhat of a down campaign, but Arians hinted that one's decision could affect the other, so the early indication is both will keep playing in '17.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer mum about retirement plans

Sun, 29 Jan 2017 12:40:09 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has yet to confirm whether he intends to return for another season or retire. At least one prominent general manager and two coaches around the league believe Palmer has played his last down.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is coming off a physically punishing and overall trying season during which he looked almost nothing like he did in 2015, when he was in the running for league MVP. The 37-year-old picked it up late in the season, but with Larry Fitzgerald also contemplating his future and Arizona possibly in the midst of an offensive makeover, Palmer may decide to call it a career.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer had issues on the road

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 13:32:56 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer threw for 1,821 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on the road this season. He threw for 2,412 yards, 13 touchdowns and only three interceptions at home.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has not announced if he will play in 2017, but he probably will be back with the Cardinals. He has posted solid numbers of the last few seasons and will have a number of weapons to work with in the passing game. Owners should consider Palmer a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues and a No. 2 quarterback in standard leagues.

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 09:19:55 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said QB Carson Palmer has not told him if he will continue his playing career but he believes Palmer will play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer saw his numbers drop this past season and finished the season with 4,233 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 15 games. Owners should keep an eye on the situation because Palmer can be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues if he returns.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is under contract through 2018, but head coach Bruce Arians said in his postseason news conference that the team needs to find a successor for Palmer.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer threw 16 touchdowns and four interceptions in the eight games when he was sacked fewer than three times, and he threw 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in the eight games when he was sacked three times or more.

Fantasy Tip: When Palmer is kept upright, he can still sling it with the best of them, but consistency will likely remain an issue. He can be a QB1 when the matchups are right, but he should be drafted as a fantasy backup.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer's performance has been up and down all year, but he does have multiple touchdowns in each of his last four games. He has low-end QB1 potential against the Saints in Week 15.
