Cowboys | Jason Witten scores in road win

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 17:30:53 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had just one reception in Week 14 against the New York Giants but it was good for a 20-yard touchdown reception.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has been limited to one catch in four of his past six outings. The good news is he has found the end zone in two straight games, but he is a very risky fantasy option heading into Week 15 due to his inconsistency lately.

Cowboys | Jason Witten makes only catch count

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 13:43:15 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught one pass for 20 yards and one touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has been limited to one catch in four of the last six games but does have a touchdown in each of the last two games. He should be owned in all leagues but may only be a starting option against favorable matchups.

Cowboys | Jason Witten poised for success?

Sat, 09 Dec 2017 19:34:29 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten faces the New York Giants in Week 14, and when he faced the Giants in Week 1, he finished with seven catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants have been one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to defending tight ends, and Witten exploited the matchup the first time around. If you need to stream a tight end in Week 14, Witten could be worth a look.

Cowboys | Jason Witten scores in win

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 20:54:51 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught one pass, an eight-yard touchdown, in a 38-14 win over the Washington Redskins Thursday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: It was Witten's first touchdown in more than a month, but it marked the third time in the last five games that he has been held to just a single catch. He is a low-end TE2.

Cowboys | Jason Witten sets record

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 18:40:42 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught all seven of his targets for 44 yards in a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Thursday, Nov. 23, setting a record for most career receiving yards on Thanksgiving with 853.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has two one-catch games and two seven-catch performances over the last four weeks, and he remains a low-end backup in PPR formats.

Cowboys | Jason Witten moves up team list

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 19:16:47 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted four receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers. With the score, Witten broke a tie with Michael Irvin for sole possession of third-place on the club's all-time receiving touchdowns list.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has posted 54 or more yards in four of his six outings and he has scored three times. After a couple of poor performances it appears Witten can once again be trusted as a low-end TE1 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 8 against the Redskins.

Cowboys | Jason Witten top receiver in Week 5

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 04:41:18 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught eight of his 10 targeted passes for 61 yards in a 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: It was a better performance than last week, when Witten was held to one catch. Still, QB Dak Prescott has so many targets on the field you have to wonder how Witten will do. He remains a decent TE1 option moving forward, but keep an eye on his matchups.

Cowboys | Jason Witten held to one grab

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 17:23:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted just one grab for nine yards on two targets in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: It was a very disappointing game for Witten, as fantasy owners expected big things against a leaky Rams pass defense. What's worse, fantasy owners had to endure seeing James Hanna celebrating a 28-yard touchdown instead of Witten on the highlights. Witten will look to get on track in Week 5 against the Packers.

Cowboys | Jason Witten is NFL's most-targeted TE

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 21:45:02 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten leads all players at his position with 22 targets through the first two weeks, with the next-closest being Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz, having logged 18 targets. Witten has turned all those throws his way into 17 catches for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Without question, the future Hall-of-Fame tight end is one of the most underrated in the league, having not even missed a game since his rookie year -- way back in 2003! -- and he's accumulated more than 60 catches in each of his 13 seasons since. He's currently on pace to rack up 176 targets, which would be a career high, and while he probably won't come close to that, Witten is proving that he can still serve as a capable TE1 in any fantasy league.

Cowboys | Jason Witten shines in lopsided loss

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 20:45:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted game highs with 10 catches and 97 yards in Week 2 at Denver and he scored a touchdown with 13 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Dak Prescott was looking Witten's way early and often, as the tight end benefited from a lopsided score in the second half with a heavy workload and no runs. He is off to a great start for fantasy owners through two games. He'll try to keep it rolling in Week 3 at Arizona on Monday Night Football.

Cowboys | Jason Witten sets franchise record

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 22:05:05 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted seven receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Giants. He became the franchise's all-time leader in receiving yardage (11,094), passing Michael Irvin.

Fantasy Tip: Witten started off strong, as he and Dak Prescott had a good thing going with the Giants mostly taking Dez Bryant out of the plan. He'll look to carry over the momentum into Week 2 in Denver.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant, Jason Witten sitting Wednesday

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 12:43:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten will not participate in practice Wednesday, July 26. Head coach Jason Garrett said he wants the veteran players to have a regular schedule during training camp that will not wear them out.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant and Witten probably will receive days off during the regular season as well because the team wants them to stay healthy. Both players will have big roles in the Cowboys passing game in 2017. Bryant should be considered a No. 1 receiver in all fantasy leagues, while Witten probably should be a low-end No. 1 or No. 2 tight end.

Cowboys | Jason Witten signs extension

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 08:17:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten signed a four-year extension through 2021 Tuesday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: Witten had a 69-673-3 season last year and turns 35 in May. He's still a solid PPR receiver, but his yardage and scoring numbers leave a bit to be desired. He's a midrange TE1 with little upside.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Cowboys | No extension talks for Jason Witten

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 16:59:22 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys are in no rush to talk to TE Jason Witten about a contract extension as he enters the final season of his five-year, $37 million deal, according to team executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Witten said earlier this month he wasn't anticipating an extension and it shouldn't come as a surprise since he turns 35 in May. While he hasn't stretched the seam for years and incapable of creating big plays at this point of his career, Witten gives the Cowboys a reliable option who hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2003. In fantasy, he's a high-end TE2 with slightly more appeal in PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Jason Witten not expecting extension

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 13:26:02 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he does not expect to receive a contract extension this offseason even though he is entering the final year of his contract. Witten said he is taking things year-to-year and is not sure how much longer he will play.

Fantasy Tip: Witten finished the 2016 season with 673 yards and three touchdowns. His receiving yards was his lowest total since his rookie season. Witten will continue to be a part of the passing game next season but probably should only be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Cowboys | Jason Witten plans to return

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 06:51:24 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten plans to return in 2017 for his 15th season.

Fantasy Tip: Witten will be 35 in May and had a decent 69-673-3 campaign in 2016. He'll be a midrange PPR tight end with minimal upside.

Cowboys | Career first for Jason Witten

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 17:59:31 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had six catches for 59 yards and his first postseason touchdown in a 34-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Witten can still be counted on for a handful of catches per game, but he does his damage on underneath coverage and offers little upside. Draft him as a TE2 in 2017.

Cowboys | No playoff TDs for Jason Witten

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 09:11:37 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten has not caught a touchdown in any of his seven career playoffs games.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has posted solid receiving numbers in his previous playoff games and should see a solid amount of targets against the Green Bay Packers. He should be considered a No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues even if he does not score a touchdown.

Cowboys | Jason Garrett plans to play starters

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 16:31:10 -0800

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the "preliminary plan" for the team's Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, Jan. 1, is to play the starters who are healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Garrett has been maintaining this all along, so there should be no doubts that the starters will at least get some work in during the season finale. The question is exactly how much playing time the Dallas starters will receive, especially after the likes of Dak Prescott, Dez Bryant and Ezekiel Elliott were done after the third quarter Monday night, but that could be attributed to the contest being a blowout. Either way, all the regulars on offense will be risky plays.

Cowboys | Jason Witten finds end zone

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 21:45:44 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted two receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown in the Week 16 game against the Detroit Lions Monday, Dec. 26. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Witten scored his first touchdown since Week 9 in Cleveland. He remains a decent low-end TE1 heading in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams for those playing into Week 17.

Cowboys | Jason Witten with 10 catches

Mon, 19 Dec 2016 05:33:49 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had 10 catches for 51 yards Sunday, Dec. 18, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: It's a great line in PPR leagues, but it's a little disappointing outside of such formats. Witten has a 66-630-2 line on the season, and he's still serviceable in PPR leagues but pretty average overall.

Cowboys | Jason Witten chasing franchise history

Tue, 06 Dec 2016 15:37:36 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (11,768) needs 137 yards to pass retired WR Michael Irvin (11,904) for the most receiving yards in franchise history.

Fantasy Tip: Witten seemingly always does damage against the rival Giants, and with this record in sight, it's feasible to believe the 14-year veteran can perhaps come close to that mark this upcoming Sunday night. Despite seeing his streak of 130 consecutive games with at least one reception get snapped last Thursday, Witten is still worth plugging in as a TE1 for many leagues.

Cowboys | Streak ends for Jason Witten

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 21:49:57 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten did not catch a pass in a 17-15 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13, snapping a 130-game streak that dated back to 2008.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has been held under 40 yards in each of the last three games, and while he probably won't be held without a catch again, he is no more than a TE2.

Cowboys | Five grabs for Jason Witten

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 16:51:20 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted five receptions for 37 yards on seven targets in the Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has managed 19 grabs over the past three games, but he has been held out of the end zone in each of the past two. He still remains a decent low-end TE1, especially in PPR leagues, heading into the Thanksgiving game against the Washington Redskins in Week 12.

Cowboys | Six more grabs for Jason Witten

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 20:45:38 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted six receptions for 59 yards in the Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: Witten had six or more receptions twice in his first seven games, but he has equaled that production with 14 grabs on 18 targets for 193 yards and a score over the past two outings. He has re-emerged as a TE1 in all fantasy formats after a mediocre start.

Cowboys | Jason Witten surpasses 100-yard mark

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 13:19:15 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught eight passes for 134 yards and one touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Witten had a breakout game in Week 9 since his previous season high for receiving yards was 66 yards. He has been a solid receiving option for the Cowboys this season and can be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end for owners in Week 10.

Cowboys | Jason Witten listed as questionable

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 17:34:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Witten should be fine for the game and will have a role in the passing game. He has been consistent in terms of his receiving yards over the last three games but is not a great fantasy option. Owners in most leagues can avoid Witten and look for better options.

Cowboys | Full practice for Jason Witten

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 19:47:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Cowboys | Jason Witten takes part in practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 16:52:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has been consistent over the last several weeks but has been held to under 50 yards in each of the last four games. He should be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues but could be used as bye week replacement in Week 8.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 22:55:04 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) hauled in four balls for 42 yards on eight targets in the Week 6 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has yet to find the end zone in six outings, although he has managed 28 receptions in six games. He remains a decent low-end TE1, especially in PPR fantasy formats. The Cowboys are off in Week 7.

Cowboys | Jason Witten active for Week 6

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 12:34:56 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) is officially active for the team's Week 6 game.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has seen more targets lately but has not posted more than 47 yards in any of the last three games and has not found the end zone this season. He could be a flex option in some leagues, but owners probably will be able to find a better starting option.

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 13:49:12 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Witten should be ready to play in Week 6 and likely will receive a decent amount of targets. He has posted decent numbers this season and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

Cowboys | Jason Witten a full participant

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 14:55:30 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has yet to exceed 60 yards in 2016, and he hasn't scored yet either. As consistent as he's been throughout his illustrious career, he's a backup fantasy tight end right now.

Cowboys | Jason Witten practices in full

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 15:50:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Witten's targets have been a bit inconsistent over the first five games of the season but does have 24 receptions and 232 yards during that span. Witten should be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end or a flex option in deeper leagues.

Cowboys | Jason Witten records three catches

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 22:01:49 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Jason Witten posted three receptions for 43 yards in the Week 5 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has posted 51 or fewer yards in four straight games dating back to Week 1, and he has yet to find the end zone this season. He is a borderline low-end TE1 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 at Green Bay.

Cowboys | Jason Witten restructures

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 07:36:47 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten restructured his contract Thursday, Sept. 8, to create $2.75 million in salary cap space. The Cowboys converted $5.5 million of Witten's $6.5 million base salary into a signing bonus, which reduced Witten's cap number from $8.612 million to $5.862 million. Witten is signed through 2017 and is set to make $7.4 million next season with a cap figure of $12.262 million.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has declined in recent years after playing in 16 games for 12 straight seasons. He could receive a hefty amount of targets with rookie Dak Prescott under center, but Witten lacks separation as evidenced by his 9.3 yards per catch last season. Witten is a midrange starter in PPR leagues, but his yardage and touchdowns may not measure up.

49ers | Bruce Miller playing some receiver

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 20:51:41 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Bruce Miller has been lining up at tight end and receiver at times, head coach Chip Kelly said. Miller said he has lost some weight for his new role and has been studying Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten to improve his route running.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the 49ers are planning on including Miller in the offense to some degree, but it remains to be seen if he can provide fantasy-relevant numbers. Leave him on the waiver wire for now.

Cowboys | Jason Witten continues to be iron man

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 19:17:25 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten played in all 16 games for a 12th straight season in 2015, and despite four quarterbacks last season he managed to snag a team-high 77 receptions. Witten came off the field for a total of seven snaps out of a possible 1,019 plays.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has to miss some time in 2016, as he isn't getting any younger and the percentages just aren't on his side. Tony Romo should be back to 100 percent health, which is good, but Witten should be viewed only as a Top 15 option at his position for fantasy purposes, as a decline is likely.

Cowboys | Jason Witten planning to stick around?

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 18:56:59 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he is taking his career one year at a time, but he added that he would play another seven years if he remains healthy and can play at a high level.

Fantasy Tip: Witten managed to catch 77 passes for 713 yards in 2015 despite playing just four games with Tony Romo. He may not be an elite fantasy option at his position anymore, but he is still a TE1, especially in PPR formats.

Cowboys | Jason Witten a top tight end again

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 16:34:37 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten finished as a No. 1 fantasy tight end for the twelfth season in a row.

Fantasy Tip: With the quarterback play in Dallas last season, this might come as a surprise to some. Yet, Witten maintained good health and still managed to finish as a TE1 with 77 catches for 712 yards and three touchdowns. He finished even higher in PPR formats. He's not an elite fantasy tight end option like he used to be, but he's probably in underrate territory at this point in his career.

Cowboys | Jason Witten probable for Week 17

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 14:33:52 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) participated fully in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is probable for the Week 17 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: With Dallas employing a slow-paced offense focused on the ground attack, Witten's ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) fantasy value is on the decline. He received just two targets in Week 16, and should be viewed as a risky FantasyScore play this weekend.

Cowboys | Full practice for Jason Witten

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 13:55:47 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Witten ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and the rest of the Cowboy's pass-catchers have minimal value with Kellen Moore at quarterback. There are better options at tight end on FantasyScore for Week 17.

Cowboys | Full practice for Jason Witten

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 16:34:48 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Witten ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had just one catch for 12 yards with Kellen Moore at the helm last week, and it's hard to recommend the veteran tight end again in Week 17. Look elsewhere for your tight end on FantasyScore.

Cowboys | Jason Witten sets franchise record

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 13:13:35 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught a pass in his 118th consecutive game Sunday, Dec. 27. He broke Michael Irvin's franchise record for most consecutive games with a catch.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has had a bit of an off year by his standards, although he does lead the Cowboys by a wide margin with 71 receptions. Witten is still a low-end TE1 option for next season's fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Jason Witten expected to play

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 15:55:47 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, and is listed as probable for the Week 16 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Witten ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) could receive a bigger role in the offense this week because of the injuries the team has a wide receiver. He has caught at least five passes in five of his last seven games but has not scored a touchdown since Week 1. Owners on FantasyScore probably will be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Cowboys | Jason Witten, Cole Beasley limited

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 13:00:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) and WR Cole Beasley (knee, illness) were limited participants in practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Witten ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Beasley ($2,500, 5.0%) should still be able to play unless they suffer any setbacks, but they can't really be trusted to produce with Kellen Moore at quarterback. Witten is a safer bet, though, and could be the safety blanket for Moore in Week 16.

Cowboys | Jason Witten limited at practice

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 14:08:34 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Witten ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has exactly five catches in each of the past three weeks for 135 yards, so while he is reliable and has a decent floor, his upside is limited. At best, he is a low-end TE1 in seasonal leagues and an against-the-grain option at FantasyScore for Week 16.

Cowboys | Jason Witten targeted frequently

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 22:46:32 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted five receptions for 45 yards in the Week 13 game against the Washington Redskins Monday, Dec. 7. He was targeted nine times.

Fantasy Tip: Witten became just the second tight end in NFL history to eclipse the 1,000-catch mark for a career earlier in the game. He will always get work with a player like Matt Cassel under center, as his passing radius isn't as great as their starter, Tony Romo. He remains a decent FantasyScore option going forward.
