Cowboys | Tony Romo throwing well

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 13:08:08 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) said he's throwing as well as he ever has as he continues to recover from a broken collarbone and subsequent offseason surgery. He and the Cowboys will go over his schedule in training camp, and he may continue to take Wednesdays off depending on how his throwing feels each day. Romo did acknowledge that he can't ignore his injury history.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is one of the riskier fantasy quarterbacks year in and year out because of his extensive injury history. He has QB1 upside, but staying on the field isn't a guarantee. If he's full-go before the season starts then he should be drafted as a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2.

Cowboys | Tony Romo staying optimistic

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 12:00:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) believes last year's broken collarbone will turn out to be an anomaly. Romo is focused on the team performing better. He believes part of that is him being healthy and teammates improving.

Fantasy Tip: Romo hasn't played a full season since 2012, but he only missed one game in each of 2013 and 2014 before last year's injury. If he can stay on the field then he should be in contention for low-end QB1 status.

Cowboys | Tony Romo feeling great

Wed, 25 May 2016 12:26:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) isn't worried about his long-term future and thinks he can play four or five more years. He also said he feels "ahead of the game" in his offseason work. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said Romo has looked "phenomenal" in offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: The biggest issue with Romo is his terrible track record of health. He has the weapons around him on offense and an elite offensive line at his disposal to put up big numbers if he can just stay healthy. Health risks make him more of a fringe QB1, though, and he's safer as your backup.

Cowboys | No issues for Tony Romo

Thu, 12 May 2016 13:14:33 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) has not had any issues physically so far during the Cowboys' offseason program, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Garrett said that Romo has almost completely integrated back into the offseason program, adding that Romo's back is feeling well, his shoulder seems fine, he's moving around well and he's made a lot of progress.

Owner Jerry Jones said there's nothing negative about where Romo is in his current state. "Everything they hoped to accomplish technically from appraisal of surgery has gone well. Everything he's done regarding his strength, everything regarding what he's wanted to do, he's been able to do," Jones said.

Fantasy Tip: Romo's outlook for the regular season looks more promising than many could have envisioned. The key for Romo, though, will be to maintain his good health and progress -- something he hasn't been able to do. The veteran quarterback can achieve low-end QB1 numbers if he can stay on the field.

Cowboys | Tony Romo ready to go

Tue, 10 May 2016 09:52:19 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (clavicle) has recovered ahead of the eight weeks at the back end of his recovery timetable, and he's expected to be a full participant in offseason practices later this month. "He's looking good," quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. "We had two practices where we've been out here on the field with the guys and he's done everything. He's throwing, he's got good velocity on all of his throws, great movement in his legs. He looks like he's re-energized because he hadn't played, you know, missed the majority of the season. So he's real energized and anxious to get going."

Fantasy Tip: The early reports are positive, but Romo presents a big health risk each time he's hit. He'll be a low-end QB1 consideration or an elite QB2.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones sees downside in drafting QB

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 18:33:45 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said drafting a quarterback with the No. 4 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft could be "problematic" if QB Tony Romo stays injury free in the coming years. "If he plays uninterrupted then you've got a problem if you've picked quarterback this year because you don't know what you got really at a time when he may be entering the markets," Jones said.

Fantasy Tip: If the Cowboys were to draft a quarterback in the first round, their fantasy value would depend on Romo suffering an injury.

Cowboys | Tony Romo full go with throwing

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:10:41 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) said he has been throwing fully for a week and a half to two weeks in his rehabilitation, adding that the experience has been good.

Fantasy Tip: Romo still has plenty of time before the regular season, too, and he should be fully recovered by then. When he's healthy he can perform like a QB1, but the key is staying healthy. Draft him as a low-end QB1.

Cowboys | Tony Romo ready for full offseason

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 09:20:04 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) tweeted that he'll be ready for a full offseason after having surgery on his collarbone March 8. The Cowboys start their organized team activities at the end of May. Romo has broken his collarbone three times since 2010, and he's had three surgeries since 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Romo should be ready in plenty of time after his surgery in early March. A fully healthy Romo will go a long way in improving Dallas' offense, but can the 35-year-old injury-prone QB stay healthy for a full season? He hasn't played a full 16 games since 2012. Because of his injury concerns, Romo is more of a low-end QB1, but you may be better off playing it safe and saving him as a backup.

Cowboys | Tony Romo undergoes shoulder surgery

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 16:22:50 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) underwent successful shoulder surgery on Tuesday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: After months of weighing his options, Romo had what was called a Mumford procedure, which reduces pain and discomfort where the clavicle meets the shoulder. The healing period is generally six to eight weeks and leaves him enough time to fully participate in organized team activities in May. Due to his proneness to injury, Romo should be considered a high-end QB2 in most leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo having surgery

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 11:40:58 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) is undergoing surgery on his fractured collarbone Tuesday, March 8. He is not expected to miss offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: The expected time frame for this particular surgery is six to eight weeks. Romo has dealt with more than his fair share of injuries of his career, particularly with his collarbone, but he's still a borderline starting fantasy quarterback when healthy.
