Cowboys | Tony Romo willing to alter contract

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 16:31:04 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is open to restructuring his contract in order to facilitate a trade to a contender.

Fantasy Tip: Romo can't be trusted as a fantasy starter, but if he lands in a quality offense, he is worth grabbing as a QB2 in 2017. If he can actually stay on the field, he can be a high-end fantasy backup or useful trade chip.

Browns | Jimmy Garoppolo top target for Browns?

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 12:17:40 -0800

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be the top target for Cleveland Browns this offseason, in the opinion of The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. The Browns could consider quarterbacks like Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon if they are not able to acquire Garoppolo.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns have two first-round picks in the 2017 draft, so they should have the pieces to move if they want to acquire Garoppolo. He played well when he served as the starter for the Patriots this past season but has not receive a lot of playing time during his career. Garoppolo would only be a No. 2 quarterback if he is traded to the Cleveland.

Cowboys | Tony Romo anticipating his release

Thu, 16 Feb 2017 08:50:10 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is expecting to be released this offseason. He believes he can be a starter in the league for two or three more years.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has a lengthy injury history, and he's entering his age-37 season. He's someone to target as a backup if you land an elite QB in fantasy.

Cowboys | Retirement not an option for Tony Romo

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 10:06:16 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has already received strong interest from television networks that want him to work as a color analyst, but he has no intention of retiring in order to do so.

Fantasy Tip: Romo turns 37 in April and is coming off a significant back injury, but he was still able to give all interested parties a glimpse that he still has a little something left in the Cowboys' regular-season finale. The likelihood is that Dallas ends up releasing him as potential suitors won't be all that inclined to trade for an aging quarterback who may only have one year left with a fairly substantial contract. If he leaves Dallas, he will be a high-risk fantasy QB2 almost regardless of where he lands.

Chiefs | KC interested in Tony Romo?

Sat, 04 Feb 2017 06:57:23 -0800

The Kansas City Chiefs are one team that could be interested in acquiring Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is reportedly looking to upgrade the quarterback position after losing in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Fantasy Tip: Incumbent starting QB Alex Smith would likely be released if Romo lands in Kansas City. Although he should still be capable of posting QB1 numbers in a favorable situation, Romo would be best served as a fantasy backup in most seasonal formats due to his injury history.

Cardinals | No Tony Romo for Arizona

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 21:38:23 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is unlikely to be pursued by the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Bruce Arians. "I wish Tony all the best; I doubt he'll be a Cardinal," Arians said.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will have plenty of suitors this offseason, and he should still be able to produce QB1 numbers in the right situation. However, he needs to drafted as a fantasy backup because of his injury history.

Bills | Buffalo interested in Tony Romo

Thu, 02 Feb 2017 12:41:53 -0800

The Buffalo Bills have significant interest in Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, but it may not be a great fit since Romo is looking to join a contending team, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills still have to make a decision on Tyrod Taylor, so it is not known what the Bills will do at the quarterback position. Romo likely will be starting for a team in 2017 and can be a No. 1 quarterback for fantasy owners. Taylor could also find a starting job if he leaves Buffalo but probably would be more of a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Cowboys | Dallas open to offers for Tony Romo

Thu, 02 Feb 2017 12:32:38 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys will be open to trade offers for QB Tony Romo this offseason once owner/general manager Jerry Jones meets with Romo, according to sources. Romo would prefer to be traded to a contending team. The Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs are among the teams Romo may be interested in joining.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is not expected to be with Dallas next season and probably will be traded or released during the offseason. Romo should be a starting quarterback for a team in 2017 and could be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback depending on his team.

Broncos | Tony Romo could interest Denver

Sun, 29 Jan 2017 07:33:56 -0800

The Denver Broncos could be interested in Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo if they can acquire him as a free agent, according to a source in the organization's football department.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has three non-guaranteed years remaining on his current contract ($14 million in 2017, $19.5 million in 2018 and $20.5 million in 2019) but the Broncos would likely only be interested in him if he is released by the Cowboys. This would allow Denver to negotiate a cap-friendly contract with the soon-to-be 37-year-old. Romo should still be viewed as a QB1 if he lands with a contender as the unquestioned starter but his history of back injuries means that seasonal owners should have a competent backup on hand.

Cowboys | Retirement a possibility for Tony Romo?

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 09:14:44 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has already said he wants to continue playing, but Bryan Broaddus of the team's official website believes retirement is a serious possibility for the quarterback this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Even though a healthy Romo would still better than roughly half of the starting quarterbacks in the league, it would be hard to blame him if he chose to leave the game given his age (turns 37 in April) history of back injuries. Ultimately, he'll probably try to squeeze out one more year, although it is highly unlikely he will do so in Dallas.

Cowboys | Trading Tony Romo is 'No. 1 priority'

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 21:36:34 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is "not going to be on (the team) in 2017," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who states that trading the veteran quarterback is their "No. 1 priority this offseason."

Fantasy Tip: It's looking like a certainty that Romo will not be with the only team he has ever known next season. The only question is where he ends up, and with a good number of teams seeking to rectify their starting quarterback situation this offseason, the 12-year veteran figures to land in a spot where he'll get another chance again right out of the gate. This should be one of the more interesting storylines of the upcoming offseason.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to trade for Tony Romo

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 10:49:52 -0800

The Denver Broncos are not inclined to trade for Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo this offseason even though they are Romo's No. 1 preferred spot, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Romo probably will not be back with the Cowboys next season after Dak Prescott's season, but he should be able to find a starting job with a team this offseason. Romo has shown he can be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in the past and could be one again in 2017 depending on his team.

Cowboys | Tony Romo leads NFL in cap burden

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 09:24:46 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will have the highest individual salary cap charge in the NFL entering the 2017 fiscal year. He is set to count $24.7 million against Dallas' cap next season, according to Spotrac.com. Dallas currently has the least amount of projected cap space in 2017. It is widely believed Romo will be traded, which almost certainly would lead to a restructuring of his current deal.

Broncos | Denver not interested in Tony Romo?

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 15:54:00 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is not likely to draw interest from the Denver Broncos in the offseason because of the their offensive line issues and their belief in QB Trevor Siemian and investment in QB Paxton Lynch, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Fantasy Tip: Romo's name is going to be tossed about in a lot of rumors this offseason. If he ends up starting for a decent team, he will have QB1 upside. However, don't count on the fragile veteran carrying your fantasy team.

Cowboys | Tony Romo effective in one series

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 13:55:11 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo played one series in the team's 27-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 1. Romo was 3-for-4 for 29 yards and threw his first touchdown pass in 14 months.

Fantasy Tip: It's just one series, but Romo proved he could snap back in a second and play ball once again. Whether Romo stays in Dallas or goes elsewhere remains to be seen. For now, mainly because of his long layoff, Romo carries QB2 status with a good chance to go back to QB1 depending on his health and where he plays.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to see action

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 05:12:49 -0800

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is expected to see action in Week 17. QB Dak Prescott will start the game, and QB Mark Sanchez will also see playing time, but the amount hasn't been determined.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid all three signal callers in fantasy this week. Prescott could wind up playing the first half, much like a preseason game, before giving way to the two vets.

Sat, 17 Dec 2016 18:42:59 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo could request his release rather than a trade to maximize his options for next season, according to a source close to Romo.

Fantasy Tip: If Romo lands with a contender with solid offensive weapons, he could easily put up QB1 numbers in 2017. However, the injury concerns aren't going away no matter where he plays.

Cowboys | Tony Romo won't play if team clinches

Sun, 11 Dec 2016 07:40:05 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said QB Tony Romo is unlikely to see any playing time if the team clinches the top seed throughout the NFC playoffs before the end of the regular season in an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Friday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Dallas' primary motive for doing this is to keep Romo healthy in case Dak Prescott gets injured or in the event that he is traded during the offseason. As long as Prescott remains healthy, Romo will have little fantasy relevance as a member of the Cowboys.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones wants to keep Tony Romo

Fri, 09 Dec 2016 20:18:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he believes he can convince QB Tony Romo to remain with the team in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Romo would likely have to accept a restructured contract in addition to the backup role to stay with Dallas next year, so Jones better have a pretty good sales pitch ready. If Romo lands with a quarterback-needy contender next year, he would return to fantasy relevance.

Cowboys | Tony Romo may consider retirement

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:58:57 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo may consider retirement this offseason even though TE Jason Witten said he does not expect Romo to retire, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Romo probably will not return to the Cowboys next season, so he will have several options to consider. He probably would be a starter if he joins to another team and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues depending on the team.

Broncos | Tony Romo interested in Denver

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:16:38 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo would be interested in going to the Denver Broncos if he is traded this offseason, according to sources. Romo is expected to have significant say in where he goes if he is traded.

Fantasy Tip: Romo probably will not be back with the Cowboys in 2017, so a trade appears to be a realistic option. The Broncos may not have interest in Romo since they have Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch on the roster. Romo could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues depending on his team, but probably will not be a great option in standard leagues.

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 07:32:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will be active as the No. 2 quarterback for Week 11's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was listed as questionable on the injury report despite being a full participant in practice throughout the week. He possesses little fantasy value outside of deep seasonal leagues as long as Dak Prescott remains healthy, although he makes a decent handcuff option if you can afford the roster space.

Cowboys | Tony Romo has full practice

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 13:11:19 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It's already clear that Romo is now Dak Prescott's backup. That being said, Romo shouldn't necessarily be dropped. Prescott could get injured or start playing poorly and suddenly you have a borderline QB1 on your bench in Romo.

Cowboys | Tony Romo remains on the bench

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 22:42:59 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will remain on the bench in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens, as owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Sunday, Nov. 13, that QB Dak Prescott will remain starter in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has obviously been the starter, but the team has won eight straight games and they have the best record in the NFL. Romo is worth scooping up as a reserve for the stretch run, especially if you're a Prescott owner. But Romo isn't worth starting any time soon.

Cowboys | Tony Romo could serve as backup in Week 11

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 08:02:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) could serve as the backup to QB Dak Prescott for Week 11's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was a full participant in practice throughout the week leading up to the game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he is not expected to surpass Mark Sanchez on the depth chart for the No. 2 quarterback job until he has worked out with the first-team offense. Prescott will continue to serve as the starter for as long as he performs at a high level and there is little reason for seasonal owners to hold on to Romo unless they want an insurance plan for Prescott.

Cowboys | Tony Romo unlikely to be active

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 21:55:54 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is unlikely to be activated for the team's Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Fantasy Tip: This is largely procedural matter as Dak Prescott was always starting this game. It just means Mark Sanchez will back up the rookie once again.

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 16:25:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 11, and is listed as questionable for the Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: As long as rookie Dak Prescott is cooking along and ticking off wins, Romo will be a bystander. He has no use in fantasy football right now, unless you want an insurance plan for Prescott.

Cowboys | Another full practice for Tony Romo

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:50:05 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was a full participant at practice for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It would appear Romo is ready to return from his back ailment, but a recent report suggested he's still likely to be inactive again this weekend. Either way, this is now Dak Prescott's team, and owners have no reason at this point to continue holding onto the 12-year veteran.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will have completed his rehab if he makes it through practice Friday, Nov. 11, but he's unlikely to be active in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: The team said they'll go with the hot hand, and there isn't much hotter of a hand than Dak Prescott. Romo provides little fantasy upside this season.

Cowboys | Tony Romo logs full practice

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 18:15:00 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is back at practice, but it remains to be seen if he will be active for Week 10, let alone start. At this point, he is merely a stash candidate in two-quarterback leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo takes part in practice

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 14:39:47 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Romo appears to have a chance to be active for the team's Week 10 game but it is not known if he will be the starter or the backup to Dak Prescott. Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation because his status affects the value of two quarterbacks. He could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues if he starts.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was cleared to practice fully last week and will practice more this week. Owner Jerry Jones has not ruled out the possibility of Romo being active for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys are in somewhat of a conundrum with Romo nearing a return and with Dak Prescott playing so well. The veteran could remain on the sideline if the rookie continues to impress. For now, view Prescott as a borderline QB1 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
