Rangers | Josh Hamilton could have offseason surgery

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 09:03:04 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee), who is on the disabled list with persistent left knee inflammation, hasn't ruled out offseason surgery to fix or remove cartilage in his knee. Hamilton has already had surgery twice on each of his knees. "Just getting old. Thin cartilage. Same thing as I figured it was, like a bone bruise," Hamilton, 34, said at the time. "Mentally, I know it's structurally fine, so the pain part of it is fine."

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton is known as a slow healer, so there's no guarantee he'll play much for the remainder of the season. Will Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) should see the majority of starts in Hamilton's absence, and he's not a bad target in deep mixed leagues for his speed. Venable can make a decent value selection on FantasyScore in the right matchups, especially now that he's moved to an extreme hitter's park.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton placed on DL

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 12:31:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Aug. 20, with left knee inflammation. The team also added OF Will Venable to their 25-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Ryan Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) probably will see playing time with Hamilton out of the lineup. Neither player is a great option for owners on FantasyScore, but Venable likely will be the more valuable option.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton likely headed to DL

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 12:34:12 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is likely headed to the disabled list with a sore left knee. He was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game Wednesday, Aug. 19, after having a cortisone injection last week that he admitted didn't provide him any relief. Any MRI exam last week showed no structural damage in his knee. "It's difficult to put the finger on what it is," Hamilton said. "Structurally, the ACL and all that stuff is OK. It feels pretty good when I'm getting treatment, but when I stand up and put weight on it, it locks up again. It's just weird."

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) continues to be burdened by injuries, and given his slow-healing reputation, expect him to be out later rather than sooner. Ryan Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and newly-acquired Will Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) can platoon in left in Hamilton's absence. Venable has more offensive upside and should see more playing time, making him more attractive in all leagues.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton sits out fourth straight

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 09:25:24 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is out of the lineup for the fourth straight game Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Ryan Strausborger will start his fourth straight game and bat ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's knee is still sore, and he could be headed to the disabled list. Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has five hits, including a home run, filling in for Hamilton. He is still too inexperienced to start on FantasyScore, but he has power and speed and is a player to watch if Hamilton returns to the disabled list.

Rangers | No Josh Hamilton again Tuesday

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 15:17:05 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 18, but he hopes his left knee will improve enough for him to return against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, Aug. 20. Manager Jeff Bannister said placing Hamilton on the disabled list is not an option, and the manager prefers having Hamilton on the bench as a pinch hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) starts again in place of Hamilton and is hitting ninth against Seattle Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma. Strausborger has performed well filling in for Hamilton, but he remains a low-end outfield commodity in daily leagues and isn't attractive at the bottom of the batting order.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton out again

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:14:23 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Monday, Aug. 17. OF Ryan Strausborger will start in left field and hit ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker.

Fantasy Tip: Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has decent power upside but is an unproven commodity at the major league level with only 18 at-bats for Texas. He's a lotto ticket on FantasyScore if you want to save valuable cash for the rest of your lineup.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton out of lineup

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 11:13:25 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton is out of the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly Sunday, Aug. 16. OF Ryan Strausborger will play left field and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Hamilton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) from your fantasy lineups. Strausborger ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is only 2-for-14 this season and is not a viable FantasyScore option at this point.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton back in the lineup

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:19:15 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is batting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Nathan Karns Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) missed the past two games with the injury, and carries a slight injury risk Friday. Over his past 20 games, he has 12 runs, three home runs, 13 RBI and a .272/.306/.420 slash line. Don't view Hamilton as anything more than a lineup filler at FantasyScore Friday.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton to have MRI

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 11:28:30 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) will undergo an MRI exam Friday, Aug. 14, after he still is experiencing soreness in his left knee. He was out of the lineup again Thursday, Aug. 13, for the second straight day. General manager Jon Daniels doesn't think Hamilton's injury is a "major" issue, however.

Fantasy Tip: Given Hamilton's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) extensive injury history, especially in relation to lower-body injuries, there's a decent chance that he'll end up on the DL, depending on his MRI results. Have a plan in place to replace him if he has to sit out for at least two weeks. Ryan Strausborger ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has replaced Hamilton in the outfield the last two days, but he's an unproven fantasy commodity that should only be seen as a warm body for those in AL-only leagues in the short term.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton sits again Thursday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 09:39:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game with left knee soreness. OF Ryan Strausborger will start in left field and bat ninth Thursday, Aug. 13, against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has only played 36 games this season and has struggled to stay on the field in recent years. Strausborger ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should continue to be his replacement and has the power and speed to make him an intriguing value, be it an inexperienced and risky one, on FantasyScore today against the homer-prone Ervin Santana.
