Rangers | Josh Hamilton to begin rehab assignment

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 17:04:48 -0700

Confirming a previous report, Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Class AA Frisco Saturday, April 30. He will play five innings in the outfield during his first rehab game.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton ready for rehab stint

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 13:46:10 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) hopes to start a rehab stint with Class AA Frisco by Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton has had injuries dog his last couple seasons, and it's uncertain what role he'll come back to in Texas. At best, he'll likely platoon in either left or right field, which could push Nomar Mazara and his .444 average back to the minors. Because Hamilton has declined offensively and is such an injury risk, his ownership should be limited to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues until further notice.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton's knee feels great

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 11:24:48 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) said his knee feels the best it has in five years Thursday, March 24. He's back on the field doing baseball activities and hopes that he will be ready for the beginning of May. Hamilton has taken batting practice off coaches and is tracking pitches off hitters. He's also doing fielding work, but his running is limited.

Fantasy Tip: Can we really take Hamilton's word for it? It's unlikely, given the multitude of lower body injuries he's sustained in recent years. On top of hit, his plate patience eroded even more last year, and his declining power makes him one to avoid in all mixed leagues, especially after Texas signed Ian Desmond to handle left field duties.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton progressing

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 13:24:47 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) has reportedly "turned a corner" in his rehab and will resume baseball activities in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton, who received stem cell and platelet-rich plasma injections into his left knee in February, remains hopeful he can play as soon as he is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 1. The 2010 American League MVP is expected to begin the year as a backup to new left fielder Ian Desmond initially but is easily worth stashing on your league's DL spot until Desmond proves himself.

He had surgery last season to clean out the cartilage in his left knee last season and experienced soreness in the winter. If he isn't ready the team has multiple options including OFs Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo, James Jones, Nomar Mazara, Ryan Rua and Justin Ruggiano.

Fantasy Tip: Itís uncertain how much time, if any, Hamilton will be forced to miss. The remaining outfielders are a hodgepodge and none are worth using outside of a deeper AL-only fantasy league. The team is also looking at a bevy of free-agent outfielders. Stay tuned.
