Fri, 14 May 2004 10:29:02 -0700

The Sacramento Bee reports Oakland Raiders FS Ray Buchanan says his new team has the right formula for stopping his old team, the Atlanta Falcons. Buchanan said the Raiders' offseason acquisition of DT Warren Sapp was the formula to stop Falcons QB Michael Vick. He added that Vick struggled against Sapp's former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the two NFC South games Atlanta had each season. "Sapp always got the best of [Vick]," Buchanan said. "[They would get Sapp and] guys up front and close all the gaps in the line. Mike had nowhere to run. Mike is fast and talented, but he can be gotten."

Raiders | Buchanan Agrees To Terms On Five-Year Deal

Sat, 03 Apr 2004 10:40:56 -0800

ESPN.com reports the Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms with free agent CB Ray Buchanan (Falcons) on a five-year deal worth $12 million. "I walked out of the building wearing a Raider hat with the shield on it," Buchanan said. "It's a great feeling." Because Oakland has only about $125,000 in available cap funds, the team must clear some salary cap room before it can officially sign Buchanan to a contract, according to officials close to the situation. The Raiders project Buchanan as a free safety and could also use him in his traditional cornerback role as well. "I have a goal and my goal is to get double-digit sacks for a team," Buchanan said. "I think that could happen at free safety."
