Rangers | Derek Holland, Colby Lewis a month away

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 16:14:25 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) will come off the 60-day disabled list Aug. 20, and SP Colby Lewis (lat) will come off the 60-day disabled list Aug. 21, general manager Jon Daniels said Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Holland can be left on waivers as he works his way back, but Lewis was pitching well before he went down and is worth stashing in AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis placed on 60-day DL

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 17:12:38 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (lat) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Sunday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis was expected to miss at least a couple of months, so the announcement isn't too surprising. You can stash him if you have a DL spot, but be prepared to be without him for the rest of the year.

Rangers | Colby Lewis out up to two months

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 17:23:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (lat) will miss up to two months with a strained lat muscle. There has been no word yet on who will replace him in the starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Ouch, crucial blow for the Rangers, as the veteran Lewis has simply been fantastic this season. He left his start early on Tuesday night due to cramping in his right triceps, and the injury has turned out to be more serious than initially thought. Owners might want to look at A.J. Griffin (shoulder), as he's set to return from injury soon and will undoubtedly go back into the rotation with the Rangers' handful of injuries at the moment. Griffin was very solid this year before landing on the disabled list in the first half of May.

Rangers | Colby Lewis doubtful for next start

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 16:16:39 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) is doubtful for his next start, according to manager Jeff Banister. He had an MRI Wednesday, June 22, and the results are pending.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been one of the surprise stories of the 2016 season, being 6-1 with a shiny 3.21 ERA and a shockingly good 1.02 WHIP. However, he had to leave his last start early due to cramping in his right triceps, so it looks like this will cost him at least one start, if not more. More information should be available Thursday concerning Lewis' upcoming assignment.

Rangers | Colby Lewis suffers cramp, first loss

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 22:01:05 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (arm) was roughed up for six runs over a season-low tying five innings on Tuesday, June 21, against the Cincinnati Reds before leaving with cramping in his triceps. He is expected to be evaluated Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis, who flirted with a perfect game in his last time out, has been riding low strikeout rates and good run support for most of the season, so he was due to pick up his first loss. The injury doesn't sound too serious, however, so his owners shouldn't be too afraid of using him on the road Monday against the New York Yankees.

Rangers | Colby Lewis flirts with perfection

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 15:48:34 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis recorded his first complete game of the season in improving to 6-0 Thursday, June 16, opposite the Oakland Athletics. The veteran right-hander actually had a perfect game going into the eighth inning, and a no-hitter into the ninth, but ended up allowing one run on two hits and a walk. He also struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has easily been one of baseball's biggest surprises this season amongst starting pitchers, as not only is he still undefeated through mid-June, but he also owns a sparkling 2.81 ERA. At the same time, owners might want to think about selling him high sooner than later, as it's just unrealistic for Lewis to keep up this type of success throughout the remainder of the campaign, especially with his low strikeout totals.

Rangers | Colby Lewis sharp in no-decision

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 22:32:56 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed just one earned run, three hits and no walks with three strikeouts across eight innings in a no-decision Saturday, June 11, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis' record remains unblemished at 5-0, and he has recorded quality starts in eight of his past nine outings. He isn't a big strikeout pitcher, but he also doesn't yield many runs and will help everyone in the wins department when the team gives him a bit of run support.

Rangers | Colby Lewis continues Houston mastery

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:40:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis gave up three earned runs in six innings before leaving with the game tied, 4-4, against the Houston Astros. Lewis did not get the decision, but he has won all five decisions in his 12 starts this season. Lewis has won nine in a row against the Astros.

Fantasy Tip: This is a classic example of matchups at play here. Lewis is having a good enough season that you want to play him in all formats, but you especially want to play Lewis in DFS when it comes to facing the Astros.

Rangers | Colby Lewis improves to 5-0

Tue, 31 May 2016 21:15:54 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed two hits and two walks with two strikeouts over six scoreless innings Tuesday, May 31, against the Cleveland Indians to push his record to 5-0 while lowering his ERA to 3.09. He has won his past three starts, and lasted six or more innings in 10 of 11 outings this season.

Fantasy Tip: With the exception of a hiccup May 25, Lewis has been on point since mid-April. The good news is he doesn't allow many runs or walks, but he also doesn't roll up many strikeouts, either. He is more of an AL-only fantasy option than mixed formats, but as long as he is winning he is attractive in each format.

Rangers | Colby Lewis remains undefeated

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:06:24 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (4-0) allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings in a victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, May 25, with one walk and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis recorded the victory despite having his shortest outing of the season and seeing his ERA rise from 2.75 to 3.38, thanks to more-than-adequate run support. He should be viewed as a somewhat risky play for his next start against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, May 31.
