Yankees | Mark Teixeira finding power stroke early

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 18:58:51 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in a 6-1 win over the New York Mets Friday, April 24, and he has a career-high seven home runs in April.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has four homers in his last five games, and while his batting average remains a dismal .218, he could still make a solid source of cap relief at FantasyScore while he has his power stroke working.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira out Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 09:31:41 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is out of the lineup Thursday, April 23, against the Detroit Tigers. 1B Garrett Jones is in at first.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) could eventually have spot-start appeal on FantasyScore, but not right now.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira up to five homers

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 22:32:20 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira had a three-run home run Wednesday, April 22, against the Detroit Tigers, his fifth homer of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira is hitting just .204, but he has five home runs and 13 RBIs to look like his former self. At just $2,700 (or 5.4% of cap) he is a cheap source of power for FantasyScore players.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira not in lineup

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 07:39:04 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is not in the starting lineup Saturday, April 11.

Fantasy Tip: Alex Rodriguez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will be starting at first base for the Yankees Saturday. Rodriguez could be a cheaper option for owners to consider on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira fine after HBP

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 19:48:29 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) said he is "fine" and is not scheduled for any tests after being hit on his right knee by a pitch Sunday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: His batting average has plummeted in recent years, but he still has the power to approach 30 homers. Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hit 18 of his 22 home runs against left-handed pitchers last year, and if you are going to take a chance on him at FantasyScore, make sure the matchup is right.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira leaves game early

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 09:14:57 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) left a minor league game early Sunday, March 29, after he was hit in the knee by a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is dealing with a serious injury. If Teixeira is ready for the regular season, he could be an option for owners on FantasyScore looking for some power in their lineups.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira's wrist feels fine

Sun, 01 Mar 2015 12:28:26 -0800

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) said his surgically-repaired right wrist feels as well as it has in a long time and he believes he will be able to drive the ball for power like he did in the past.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira's fantasy stock has fallen rapidly for multiple reasons and he should be available in the later rounds of mixed league drafts as a corner infield option. It's encouraging to hear that his wrist is OK and that he has switched to a more nutritious diet this offseason, but it's difficult to envision him performing as well as he did five years ago, considering that he will turn 35 next month.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira on new diet

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 09:57:02 -0800

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira has become gluten-free, sugar-free and dairy-free, and he's hoping the change will help him avoid injuries. "I look at the last two years as hopefully more of a bump in the road," Teixeira said. "The way I feel now, I feel like a kid again. I feel like I did a few years ago when I was hitting 30-plus homers and driving in 100 runs, playing almost every single day." Teixeira played in 123 games last year and hit just .216 with 22 home runs and 66 RBI. He'll turn 35 in April and hasn't played more than 123 games since 2011. Teixeira reconfigured his body in the offseason, and he added 13 pounds of muscle while losing fat.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira doesn't even crack the top 20 in our first baseman rankings, mainly because of his poor health in recent seasons. However, his new and improved body and diet gives hope that he can at least return to the 20-homer mark again this year, if he can stay healthy. That's a big if, though. He's worth consideration at the tail end of standard drafts as a corner infield option.
