Yankees | Mark Teixeira's rehab timeline

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 15:18:50 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (leg) will be on crutches for the next month and will need at least three months to recover from a fracture in his right leg. However, he should be ready for spring training next season. 1B Greg Bird will continue to serve as the team's starting first baseman in Teixeira's absence. General manager Brian Cashman doesn't expect to make another move to acquire a first baseman before the end of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Dump Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in all formats if you haven't done so already. The slugging first baseman bounced back nicely to post 31 home runs and 79 RBI in only 111 games this year. His injury could help make him affordable in 2016 drafts despite his bounceback this year.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira done for the season

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 13:43:10 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (leg) will miss the remainder of the season with a fracture in his right leg, the team announced Friday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has been out since Monday, Aug. 17, so he hasn't been contributing much in fantasy terms for a long time. Now, though, you can safely drop the veteran and move on in all formats. Greg Bird ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) projects to continue receiving the majority of starts at first base, and he is worth a grab in the majority of leagues, as he has 15 runs, five home runs, 17 RBI and a .241/.319/.458 slash line over 24 games.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira going for more tests

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 15:30:48 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) will have more tests, including an MRI exam, on his bruised right shin Friday, Sept. 11. It's looking increasingly unlikely that he will return for the regular season. Teixeira said he's still unable to walk without pain, and he continues to use crutches. He has started just one game since he fouled a ball off his shin Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Given that Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is known as a slow healer, it is really a long shot that he makes anymore of a fantasy impact this year. You can drop him in all single-year formats. Expect Greg Bird ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) to continue serving as the starting first baseman.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira still has pain

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 12:42:29 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) believes he can play again this year but is still experiencing pain when he walks.

Fantasy Tip: At this point it's a long shot for Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) to return during the regular season, let alone for a postseason run. Drop him in all formats if you don't have the room to stash him. Greg Bird ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should continue to see most of the starts at first base for the rest of the year.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira receives injections

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 16:55:41 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) had two more injections in order to calm the nerve issues in his leg Tuesday, Sept. 8, and he remains on crutches. General manager Brian Cashman wonders if Teixeira will return at all this year.

Fantasy Tip: With each passing day, the chances of Teixeira ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) making a return in September dwindle drastically. Dropping him in your fantasy league makes sense at this point if you don't have the room and have other pressing needs.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira vows to return this year

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 15:12:07 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) is still on crutches, but he said he's "100%" certain that he will make it back this year. However, he said there remains no timetable for his return to the lineup. He's played in just one full game since fouling a ball off his right shin Aug. 17. There is no permanent damage in Teixeira's shin, and he didn't hurt it any further by playing through it.

Fantasy Tip: This does Teixeira's ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) owners no good. With no timetable for a return in sight, we wouldn't blame you for cutting him from your fantasy squad if you don't have any room left on your roster.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira to DL

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 08:35:34 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, Sept. 4, with a bone bruise in his shin. The move is retroactive to Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: This was a formality as he's out at least two more weeks. Greg Bird ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will be a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira out two more weeks

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 16:10:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) will be out at least two more weeks with a lingering bone bruise on his right shin, according to general manager Brian Cashman. More tests Monday, Aug. 31, didn't show any new damage, but Teixeira needs to be completely off of his leg for his injury to heal. He'll be on crutches for an unknown timetable, and the possibility remains that he won't play again this year. Teixeira leads the Yankees in home runs (31), RBI (79) and OPS (.905). He also received an anti-inflammatory injection.

Fantasy Tip: Don't plan on using Teixeira ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) for the rest of the season, and he's now a candidate to be dropped in most other fantasy formats since it's looking unlikely he can make much of an impact in September. Greg Bird's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) value for the rest of the season will go up slightly, and he's a decent value target on FantasyScore for his power stroke.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira has bone bruise

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:57:49 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira's (shin) MRI exam revealed a bone bruise that was more serious than the team initially thought, according to manager Joe Girardi. Teixeira will be on crutches for "a few days," and the team isn't ruling out his return this year.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Teixeira ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) doesn't have any broken bones or fractures in his leg. The bad news is he may not play much in the season's final month, meaning he'll be dead weight for his fantasy owners. It's unwise to rely on him at FantasyScore in September, even if he comes back. Greg Bird ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts at first base in his absence, and he's a value play for his power in daily formats.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira out for Red Sox series

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:41:09 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) has returned to New York to undergo further tests and is not expected to play during the series against the Boston Red Sox, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: Greg Bird ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will continue to see everyday at-bats for the duration of Teixeira's ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) absence. Continue to be patient with Teixeira in seasonal formats, but it isn't out of the question to replace him if you need production in the now. Check back for updates.
