Yankees | Mark Teixeira homers in second straight

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:14:03 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira flashed vintage form with his first multi-hit game in over a month against the Texas Rangers on Monday, June 27, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in his third game back since coming off the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Well, well, well look who appears to be feeling better now. Teixeira left the yard for the first time since May 22 with a solo shot in Sunday's home loss to the Minnesota Twins, then posted his first multi-hit game since May 16 just over 24 hours later. It's still far too early to say the 36-year-old is ready to be inserted back into the majority of fantasy lineups, but at least he's giving owners a reason to consider it.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira homers in second game back

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 13:39:05 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira went 1-for-3 with a solo home run - one of only two hits the Yankees could muster on Sunday, June 26, against the Minnesota Twins - in his second game since coming off the disabled list on Saturday, June 25, due to a cartilage tear in his right knee.

Fantasy Tip: The home run was his first since April 13, although the fact he has missed 24 games already has something to do with that. While Teixeira may be something of a sentimental choice, owners are advised to avoid using him until he can lift his average (.179) a bit or post his first multi-hit game in over since the middle of May.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira activated from DL

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 07:39:39 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, June 25. Teixeira will start at first base against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana Saturday and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira is hitting only .180 with three home runs and 12 RBI so far this season. Owners probably should wait until he is more productive at the plate before using him in their lineups.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira begins rehab assignment

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 22:35:31 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, June 21. He's expected to play two more games there and, barring any setbacks, return to the Yankees on Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira hasn't done much this year (.180-3-12 in 167 ABs), but he did crank 31 home runs a season ago. That alone makes him worth stashing in AL-only and very deep mixed leagues in advance of his projected return.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira may return soon

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 12:14:44 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) likely will play three games for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre this week and hopes to be able to play for the Yankees Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira has missed the last few weeks because of the injury but should be in the starting lineup when he is activated from the disabled list. He is hitting only .180 with three home runs and 12 RBI this season and is not a strong fantasy option at this point.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira eyeing rehab games

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 09:55:13 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) is hoping to play Tuesday, June 21, or Wednesday, June 22, for Class AA Trenton, and hopes to rejoin the Yankees Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: After a 30-homer year in 2015, Teixiera's 2016 season has been a miserable one. He's hitting only .180 with three long balls and 12 RBI and has already dealt with multiple injuries. He's hoping to put off surgery on his knee until the offseason. He's a very shaky fantasy proposition even if he returns to the lineup. In the meantime, Ike Davis and Rob Refsnyder are platooning at first base and have some appeal in deeper leagues, mainly AL-only formats.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira to resume running soon

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:16:24 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) expects to resume running this week after strengthening the area around his knee over the past few days. He is attempting to use a combination of rest and rehab to return to action later this month rather than undergoing season-ending surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.

Fantasy Tip: The 36-year-old Teixeira is batting just .180 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 167 at-bats this season and has been a colossal fantasy disappointment, so he is not worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues. INF Rob Refsnyder is serving as the team's primary first baseman and he could be worth rostering in AL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues because of his positional versatility.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira update

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 16:44:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) plans to put off a knee debridement procedure because it would be a "four-to-six-month recover." Instead he will receive cortisone injections to help reduce swelling and pain and receive rest and treatment with hopes that he can return in three weeks. Manager Joe Girardi said he plans to use 2B Rob Refsnyder and 1B Chris Parmelee at first in the meantime. Teixeira had the same type of surgery on his left knee in 2007 and said "it's not a fun surgery." He doesn't think he'll be limited when he returns.

Fantasy Tip: At Tex's age (36), it's no guarantee he'll be back in three weeks or that he'll be any more productive than he's been this year (.180-3-12). He did hit 31 homers in 2015, so there's hope that he can produce some power for your lineup in the second half, but it's looking more like a pipe dream now. He's probably not worth stashing in the majority of mixed leagues.

Yankees | No surgery for Mark Teixeira

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 09:06:46 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) will not have surgery to fix torn cartilage in his right knee, although he may ultimately need it. The Yankees are hoping that with treatment and rehab Teixeira can return in three weeks. There was concern that he'd be lost for the rest of the year if he had surgery. Teixeira is hitting only .180 with three home runs and 12 RBI this season and hasn't played in more than 123 games in a year since 2011.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Tex can probably be cut in most mixed leagues, as he wasn't performing even when healthy. His 31-homer season a year ago seems like a distant memory. However, if he returns fully healthy, he could be a decent source of power in deeper leagues in the second half.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira at least three weeks away

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 20:50:04 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) is three weeks away from being able to play in any game, manager Joe Girardi said Monday, June 6. Teixeira is on the 15-day disabled list due to a tear in his right knee.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira was struggling terribly before the injury, but fantasy owners will want to be patient and not cut ties with him just yet. Wait to see how he responds in his first week or two upon returning before making a decision on cutting him. Be patient.
