Cubs | David Ross reaches milestone Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 18:09:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs C David Ross went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 27. It was the 100th home run of his MLB career.

Fantasy Tip: Ross is regarded as a defensive-first catcher but he hasn't embarrassed himself at the plate this year, batting .254 with four home runs and 17 RBI through 71 at-bats. He's worth considering as an inexpensive backstop option in DFS if he has a favorable matchup.

Cubs | Miguel Montero out vs. lefty

Fri, 27 May 2016 09:33:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies left-handed SP Adam Morgan Friday, May 27. C David Ross is doing the catching and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Ross isn't normally known as an offensive player, but he's held his own in limited starts this year with a .250 average and three home runs and 14 RBI in 67 at-bats. He's hit well against lefties, too, with a .389/.520/.611 slash line. He's certainly worth considering as a low-end flyer at catcher if you're looking to save salary cap space.

Cubs | Miguel Montero with day off

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:16:01 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24. C David Ross is behind the plate and is hitting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha.

Fantasy Tip: The 39-year-old veteran is actually having a decent season at the plate, hitting .250 with three home runs and 12 RBI. However, he has little offensive upside hitting at the bottom of the order and remains a low-end daily backstop.

Cubs | Miguel Montero not starting Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 14:17:21 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not starting Sunday, May 22, against the San Francisco Giants. C David Ross is batting eighth against Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Montero and Ross have been largely platooning, so this move should come as no surprise to Cubs fans. Ross generally has little fantasy value even though he has shown he can hit home runs off Bumgarner (one in six at-bats).

Cubs | David Ross starting behind the plate

Wed, 18 May 2016 13:42:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs C David Ross is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Wednesday, May 18. C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Ross is a low-end fantasy option, but he has been surprisingly productive with 11 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI and a .236/.338/.436 slash line. Hitting in a deep lineup helps, and he is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests. Going forward, expect Montero to receive more than half the starts behind the dish.

Cubs | Two sitting out for Cubs

Sun, 15 May 2016 11:04:51 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and C Miguel Montero are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Sunday, May 15. 3B Kris Bryant will start in left field, while SS Javier Baez will start at third base and is batting seventh. C David Ross will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez and Ross have been playing well over the last week and can both be options in daily fantasy leagues. Ross should also have value in two-catcher leagues.

Cubs | David Ross drives in three runs Friday

Fri, 13 May 2016 19:13:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs C David Ross went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored versus the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Ross is batting .245 with three home runs and 12 RBI through 18 games but should see a significant decrease in playing time once Miguel Montero (back) returns from the disabled list, which could be sooner rather than later.

Cubs | Jorge Soler, Addison Russell back in lineup

Sat, 07 May 2016 10:46:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and SS Addison Russell are back in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Saturday, May 7. In addition, C Tim Federowicz will start behind the plate and bat eighth in place of C David Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Soler (3-for-19) and Federowicz (2-for-12) have been ice-cold at the plate over the past two weeks and should be avoided in daily fantasy formats. Russell is not a recommended option this afternoon because he is hitless in 14 at-bats versus left-handed pitching this year.

Cubs | Jorge Soler, David Ross sitting

Sun, 01 May 2016 10:52:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and C David Ross are not in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran Sunday, May 1. 3B Kris Bryant will start in left field, while 2B Tommy La Stella will start at third base and is batting sixth in the lineup. C Tim Federowicz will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella has gone 5-for-8 with four doubles, one home run and two RBI over the last seven days. He should be an attractive candidate for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Federowicz is making his first start of the season and can be avoided by all owners.

Cubs | Miguel Montero sitting

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 07:35:42 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (back) is out of the lineup Thursday, April 28, with C David Ross hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Ross usually catches Jake Arrieta, so Montero could be back Friday. Ross isn't a potent enough bat to start against Taylor Jungmann.
