Cubs | David Ross likely to retire after 2016

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 12:30:37 -0800

Chicago Cubs C David Ross has said the 2016 season will likely be his last, as he wants to "be a dad" following 15 Major League Baseball seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Ross does not play often enough to merit consideration in regular fantasy leagues as he gets about 200 plate appearances a year, mainly serving as personal catcher to Jon Lester. Still, in daily contests, he may be worth a small amount of money so keep an eye on his status once the year starts.

Cubs | Miguel Montero out for Game 4

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 12:37:40 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the lineup for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series Wednesday, Oct. 21. C David Ross is behind the plate and is batting ninth against Mets SP Steven Matz.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is a defensive specialist that has even less daily value when hitting behind the pitcher in the lineup. Look elsewhere for your backstop.

Cubs | David Ross catching Game 1

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 12:40:12 -0700

Chicago Cubs C David Ross is in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets Saturday, Oct. 17, batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: This news is not surprising at all, since Ross ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) serves as the personal catcher for Game 1 starter Jon Lester ($7,500, 15.0% of cap). Ross is 0-for-2 with a strikeout this postseason and is not a great FantasyScore catching option.

Cubs | Miguel Montero sitting in Game 1

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 10:18:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the division series against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, Oct. 9. C David Ross is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Cardinals SP John Lackey.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has become Jon Lester's personal catcher. He's a defensive-minded player that should be ignored on FantasyScore.

Cubs | David Ross catching Saturday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 12:20:23 -0700

Chicago Cubs C David Ross will bat eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has collected just one hit in his last 16 at-bats and is not a great FantasyScore catching option.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler, Miguel Montero resting

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 11:42:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler and C Miguel Montero are not in the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Austin Jackson is starting in center field and batting second, while C David Ross is catching and hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a defense-first player that isn't a smart buy on a day with a full slate of games. Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has hit only .195 (11-for-57) with no homers and two RBI in 24 games for the Cubbies, but he could be a sleeper pick that pays off against a hittable pitcher in a favorable lineup spot tonight.

Cubs | Miguel Montero resting

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 08:07:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup with SP Jon Lester on the mound Friday, Sept. 25. C David Ross is catching and is batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has been Lester's personal catcher all season long. He's a defensive specialist, though, and should be ignored on FantasyScore, especially while taking hacks against Pittsburgh's ace Friday.

Cubs | Miguel Montero sitting out

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 07:42:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Saturday, Sept. 19. C David Ross will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) likely is receiving a rest after starting each of the last three games. Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is known more as a defensive catcher and should not be a starting option in fantasy leagues.

Cubs | Miguel Montero out of nightcap

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 14:16:27 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, Sept. 15. C David Ross is starting and is batting eighth against Pirates SP J.A. Happ.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is never really a good pick in daily formats as a deep sleeper at catcher, especially when he's facing a pitcher that has been very impressive in the second half of this season.

Cubs | Miguel Montero out vs. lefty

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 10:46:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the lineup against Philadelphia Phillies left-handed SP Adam Morgan for Game 1 of a doubleheader Friday, Sept. 11. C David Ross is starting and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: You won't be able to use Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) on FantasyScore for Game 1 of the doubleheader. He's a catcher to avoid anyway.
