The Boston Red Sox plan to talk about a new contract with SP John Lackey after the season. Lackey will only earn $500,000 for the 2015 season because of a clause in his deal. Lackey had Tommy John surgery in 2012, which triggered the clause.

Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey touched 96 mph during his outing Tuesday, April 29, and averaged 92.6 mph with his two-seamer and 93.7 mph with his four-seam fastball. Lackey has displayed impeccable control this season thanks to good health. He has four wins in the opening month.

Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey touched 95 mph with his fastball in his second win of the season against the Texas Rangers Monday, April 7, and more than one scout said he's looking like the pitcher that made at least 32 starts in five straight years with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Lackey had his fastball working with precision Monday, throwing 17 of 27 first-pitch strikes, and his offspeed pitches were also on point.
Fantasy Tip: Now that Lackey is perhaps in the best shape of his life and is firmly removed from TJS, he's showing the best skills he's had in years. Pinpoint control and command is the key, and if he continues to pitch like he did last night, this could be another breakout year for him.

Although Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey has come up in trade talks this offseason, it is thought Boston has little interest in dealing the veteran pitcher. Lackey has a $500,000 contract option for 2015 which could provide some payroll flexibility, provided a new deal is not reached before then.

The Chicago Cubs are said to be searching for a young catcher and are willing to listen on SP Jeff Samardzija.
